can someone please confirm if there's a TRUE photo of the Matte new 17-inch MacBook Pro online yet? I heard that there's no black bezel and I also heard that it's not TRUE matte. Is this true? Someone who REALLY knows this answer please tell me.

Thank you.

You realize 8 GB of RAM requires 2 4GB sticks, not 2 more 2GB sticks, right?

 thanks for the quick math lesson there champ.

I'm willing to hazard a guess that since Apple charges $150 for a 2GB SODIMM DDR2, (http://store.apple.com/us/memorymodel/ME_IMAC_AL_24_G2), their DDR3 will be substantially more expensive n' junk.

Way more than $90, anyway.

Call it an educated guess, but I'm gunna go out on a limb and guess that this retailer's 4GB SO-DIMM DDR3 stick will cost a *****load less than $1500.

EDIT: As has been pointed out below, my misreading the previous post led to THIS post making NO sense. *slapsself*

Darn...

Just bought a 17" MBP in November as I was terrified that the new one would only be glossy....so far, it's my first Apple and I'm 200% satisfied and find it a great value for the money, especially after owning HP and Dells.

-Blueray....YAWN, I'm not going to be a pawn for the MPAA and buy $30-40 discs just to watch a movie. Plus I don't see the use for it, and loath supporting any Sony standards as they always keep the prices too high
-Internal battery....a great move, and the future of notebook computers, especially once fuel cells are released.
-Keyboard...would be nice to have a 9 key
-Ports...I have found myself missing the generous USB ports on Dell, so only three is going to be a little tough for me

When it comes out wth C4D, I'll pick one up and ebay the current machine. For now, I'm pleased with what I have and looking forward to what I will have in the future.

Well 4gb is already baked into the MBP's price, so half that 8gb price is still less than $600, which is still less than half what Apple is charging...so yes, RAM is expensive...at Apple

So you think its just one stick of 4gb ram? im sure its 2x2gb than the upgrade would be 2x4

Once again. Two slots. The MBP comes with 2 2GB sticks. You want 8 GB, you need to buy 2 4GB sticks. The previous math lesson obviously failed.

Well of course :) I'm just saying, RAM can be had for much cheaper if you just take the time to investigate it. Apple's has always been more expensive than some mom & pop outfit computer store, and always by a very wide margin.

This 4gb SODIMM is just hard to find at the moment because it's so new.

Apple's rate of $750/DIMM is CrazyPills. :)

So, pretty much everyone wants a 15" matte option. As do I. C'mon Apple, make it happen!

If there is a matte option by September on the 15" then I will buy it. If not, screw you Apple.

I wonder how much comp. weight is lost by going from glossy to matte.

Probably less than an ounce.

this is a working piece that gamers and real pros are asking .

join the snow leopard and you close of the perfection.

very good price in the uk , if you compare this model with the previous version.

Very bad. That means less hardware to put inside of what is supposed to be a professional/high end machine with desktop class power. But I guess it's only by Apple's desktop standards which mean another laptop.

Totally agree with you there.

Very disappointed with this release. There were so many ways that apple could have created an uber laptop, but instead all they have done is created an underpowered 17" MB Air. Let's be honest- this 17" is hardly more powerful than the existing 15".

It seems Apple has solved a battery problem that didn't really exist. Sure, 17" battery life has never been great, but that is because they are designed to be desktop replacements.

This laptop should have had desktop class power, and by that i mean:

-Quadcore CPU (can't believe this isn't even an option...)
-eSATA (because you'll be needing more space when you fill that meager 320GB drive haha)
-calibrated LCD for Adobe (what happened here eh?)
-Dual HDD - even better, 1 SSD, one large Magnetic HDD
-a DECENT GPU, not a generic gaming card. Give us a proper Quadro/FireGL
-Remove that ridiculous battery, and you might have some room to fit some decent components...

Who cares about thinness? Seriously?!

Who said it's a Pro machine.

Well they just killed the resale market for it (who in their right mind would buy a second hand laptop where you can't replace the battery yourself?).

And WHAT NO BLU RAY!?! How can they say it is a high end machine without blu ray!!!!

Apple only makes consumer products. Just because it costs 22700-4000 & has Pro in its name does make it a Pro machine.

17" MBP looks perfect! but do we really need such big screens for portable? netbook is the latest fashion here. MacBook Nano?

:cool::cool::cool:

Apple = Cute & Pretty

Even with a smaller battery, unless we had the option to take it out & put in a second HD or SSD you have come to see what the real problem is. It is the false requirement that Apple has put on its laptops that says that form rules over function. Thus the thinness that it seems as only you & e care about. Thin may look nice for your computer. But does the computer minus the items you want & need to get your job done to give us thin really serve us?

HP makes a portable laptop that weighs in at 16 lbs. It has a 16 million color 19" screen, 2 hard drives, numeric keypad & plenty of more options. This is a little more extreme than most want or need. I wonder if there is enough of us that wants a little thicker 17" or larger Mac laptop & would be willing to have our laptops be the thickness needed to give us what we want & need.

With the 15" easily replaceable hard drive Apple seemed to be listening to my wants & needs. But then when they made the 17" like I wanted they have appeared to make more than just me mad with the apparent sealing of the 17" laptop case. Let's stop using Pro when we refer to this model. I agree with that call it a 17" Intel MaBook Air, not Pro.
