Sure am glad I just picked up the academic version YESTERDAY for my new book. Unfortunately I bought it on eBay so I can't even try to explore the upgrade option. Oh well...such is life with Apple! Always be upgrading...

Such is the life in the age of computers and technology. Period. ;)

Just installed. You can't use your previous library in the trial. It tells you to either create a Trial Library or Quit.

Of course there is a workaround but it's a bit dangerous so you best be backing it up.

I'm simply going to "Show the Contents" of the original Aperture library and then drag all the files into the new Trial Aperture Library.

Once I receive the retail box and my serial, it should all transfer over well. Should.

Waiting for Time Machine to finish its backup and for a backup of the backup to copy to an external drive. I'll report on if this works or not in about 30 mins.

True. But also consider the hundreds of companies with a total employee count in the millions who have access to Employee Purchase Programs along with the hundreds of thousand of government employees who can access the government purchase program. Now multiply all those people who buy on behalf of a spouse or child and I bet you're in the tens of millions who have access to a discount that isn't an education discount.

BTW, my point in posting the CompUSA comment was that I wonder if I went there on lunch whether I could talk them into a 40-50% discount?!?

Who knows. It might be worth a try.

Still, certain employee discounts and what have we, really doesn't count in this sense. Does it. The retail price was 299 as you full well know, and they took thirty percent off of the price. At least in this instance there's know cheating. If you – yesterday _ could find it cheaper than that, you had to really look around. It was thirty percent. I don't know of any employer discounts that would give you that much of a percentage on software, unless needed for work. And if it's needed for work, the employer better pay the full amount. Anyway, it doesn't matter that much. I'm merely saying that there wasn't any cheating involved in that discount. Now, however, they have to really put them on sale. Down to below 190 dollar to get them out the door.

GEEEZUS!!

It's already been ~2 hours since this way posted...and still no torrents available?

Come on macrumors...pick up the pace here!!!!

lol jk

As a pretty frequent user of 1.5 (not on my mac...I steal my roomates mac to use it...hehe) I will definatly be picking this up. :D

w00t

Assuming that the trial serial # issue is sorted out I expect to be trying this out this evening. I've really enjoyed using Aperture 1.5 so this one looks like a no-brainer, particularly considering the low price. I just hope that the UK price is comparable to the currently advertised US price...

Called my local Apple Store: "At least another week or so until we get it"? Whaaa?

Does that mean that if I order it online it'll take "a week or so" to arrive?

Perhaps, but not in this case. The price on aperture was 299 before, and they were giving a 30 percent discount. That amounts to a tad over 200 dollars.

Edit: And I'm sorry, but not everyone can get education prices – we're not all in college – be it as a teacher or a student.

Perhaps the store in my area is different. I presumed they would be liquidated equitably across the board, especially on Apple products. That may not be the case.

Can't you download the trial and use that until the "real deal" comes?

LOL, I'm sorry, but I'm really, really tired, not to mention not a native english speaker: I haven't got a clue as to what you're saying?

It is preferential to refrain from the utilization of grandiose verbiage in the circumstance that your intellectualization can be expressed using comparatively simplistic lexicological entities.

ARGHHHHH:mad:

When are the MBP's gonna be released? This is insane.

I'm not quite sure why many are so upset that there is not an updated MacBook Pro. From what I have read, most of the people who are complaining about wanting a new MBP already have one. I'd hate to see your credit card bill if you treat everything that way. When your car reaches 10,000 miles do you complain that the 2009 model is not out yet? Any MBP is still a very good machine, its not like you are trying to use a PowerBook G3.

So, having said that, please enlighten me as to the compelling reasons why everyone is demanding new MBP's. What new features can you not live without? Thanks.

I believe he is attempting to make himself feel smarter. Don't worry about not understanding it, he's just being a....well, he is probably just being himself if you get where I am going with that.

The Apple Store online ALWAYS has the products available before the retail stores. We would always get miffed when users would come into the store with products they've already received that we hadn't even seen yet. If you want it first, preorder online.

In other news, what's up with the new image for Logic Express that Apple is using on the Mac Pro store configuration screen? Looks like this:

btoimage_logicexpress.jpg

Strange, just never seen that image. Wonder why they didn't use the box art like everywhere else?

Yep. Doing that right now. It's a headache though because the Trial version won't let you transition your old library. You have to either create a Trial Library or Quit.

I created the trial library and I'm going to have to move all the package contents into the new Library. It's the long way to do it, but I'd rather not have to wait for the new disk.

I ordered it over the phone to see if they could provide me with a retail serial upon my purchase but I have to wait for the actual disk to arrive.

The associate warned me before hand that:

Educational Versions cannot be upgraded.

great suggestion, i second!

Good idea. I'm glad I didn't have to say it, somehow I get banned when I start telling people to stop whining. We live in a society that is too PC (politically correct) already, now we cannot speak the truth on the internet?

I like the sound of the new feature set. I use Aperture quite a bit and will be very tempted to upgrade - but how much is an upgrade going to cost me?

Edit:
Hmmm. $99 for the upgrade. Ouch.

$99 seems pretty good to me. Who else offers pro product updates for $99 - certainly not Adobe.

It's a shame we have to pay to get support for the new cameras :(
Not like this in the alternative solutions out there.

I would have probably bought the update just to get the feature, but to have to buy it because of some marketing ploy is just shameless!

The RAW upgrade is built into MacOS X 10.5.2 - will that not work with Aperture 1.5?

So here's the procedure to import your old Library into Aperture 2.0

Warning: You'll only be able to use this library in 2.0 after this. No going back.

1 - Back up old library
2 - Install Aperture 2.0
3 - Create Trial Library when prompted
4 - Drag original Library onto Aperture 2.0's Projects pain
5 - Update Library when prompted.

LOL Sure, but first tell me what "Tosser" means...:p

Well, it's double. You know the english connotations, so I'll "elegantly" skip that part and tell you what it means in danish. It's plural for "nutcase". Combine the two, and voila!

I applaud Apple for making digital photo software, but I'm curious to know what the engineers are thinking when they did. It requires a 2 ghz processor? 2 gb of ram?

I know there's two camps here--the Lightroom camp and the Aperture camp. No need to start another debate about this. But why does Lightroom require so much less horsepower to run? I can run Lightroom on my old G4 iBook when I'm out traveling light. Sure, it's slow, but at least it works. Why does Aperture require so much firepower?

Hmm, I just realised the Airbook is then out of the game as a light editing machine to bring along with all your lenses and whatever else pro photographers bring along. At least if the tool of choice is Aperture.

Get this, my local CompUSA that is going out of business has a couple of copies of Aperture 1.5 for 30% off retail ($299)...$209.30. That's like $10 MORE than the current 2.0 and that doesn't count the $9.95 upgrade price you'd have to pay just to get to v2.0. Something tells me that until that percentage drops to 40% off it wouldn't make much sense for anyone to buy them.

Wow that is stupid! The manager of your CompUSA should have gotten into his time machine and travelled to today to see the price drop and priced the product appropriately. Sheesh!
