MacTruck has been banned for his stunt... and I'll be spending the next 30 minutes cleaning this up.

is after all not completely stupid (should I say dumb ?) ...
They re going to release a version of Windows XP specifically tuned/optimized
for the Apple hardwareThen they can sell Windows licences to the remaining 5 % of the population which is using Apple.
Starting today, Microsoft doesn t care anymore (if it ever did) about Apple taking market shares. An Apple hardware owner is now as good a customer to sell OS and softwares to, as a Dell or Hp or whatever.
wedge antilies said:If anyone is criticizing the move, I think you should realise that Apple would have done some serious research in to this and that XP will not kill off OSX, but it should lead to increased market share for Apple.
THis means more APPLE hardware sold = $$$$$
This means more Apple software sold, iLife, iWork, Quicktime, proApps like Final Cut, Aperture etc, = $$$$$$
This also helps lock people into iPod and iTunes =$$$$$.
I don't see anyway this is a loser for Apple.
I'll be 95% OSX, but some of my work Apps are XP only, so that will be the other 5%
Come June, I'll be buying my 20" iMac.
Hey ignore my tagline: I'm now a member!

Yvan256 said:1. Apple switches to Intel CPUs
2. Apple allows dual-booting instead of adding some kind of "Virtual PC" to Leopard
3. Microsoft delays Vista... yet again
4. There's talks about cross-platform Vista/Leopard development tools/APIs/etc
5. ...
6. There's no "Apple Mac OS X Leopard" and no "Microsoft Windows Vista" coming, folks. There's a new Apple-Microsoft product called "Windows Leopard" coming, though.
Yes - in an effort to kill Linux, Bill has signed a deal with Steve: Windows Leopard will be Mac OS X in disguise and will run old Windows apps in Virtual PC (which they already own).
So yes, say good-bye to Mac OS X, in name. But also say good-bye to Windows for real, because only the name will be left.
Note: what you have read may or may not be facts and/or reality. But it's all technically possible. Read it with a 1Kg grain of salt.

Chupa Chupa said:That is just ignorant of the facts. 1) M$ just signed an agreement with Apple to continue Office for Mac for at least 5 years. 2) Unless Apple really starts eating at Windows market share then M$ NEEDS to keep making Office for Mac for anti-trust reasons. So while current employees may not feel fulfilled there (and I think that feeling is pervasive throughout M$ these days) the MBU isn't going anywhere anytime soon.
I'm impressed, treblah! I'll recommend that Apple hire you as director of development.treblah said:
isn't vista being released in November of '07? Could that mean that Apple will support Vista as well?Daveway said:I haven't read throught the entire thread yet, but has anyone read the EULA for Boot Camp?

EDIT- something else to consider. They are only "supporting" Office for Mac. They are not developing new features for Office Mac. It would be a whole lot cheaper to support Office from India than from The Bay Area....

I've been reading quotes like this since Apple announced the switch to Intel (about comparing benchmarks), but your post on the day that Apple released Boot Camp made me look at this in a whole new light. I'd always thought about comparing benchmarks on "similar" hardware from Dell, HP, etc. It's now going to be trivial to run both Windows and OS X native versions of apps on Mac hardware with an Apple-provided solution to do so.areyouwishing said:Im also worried about photoshop (and other cross platform) performance. What happens when native XP Photoshop runs faster than OS X Photoshop on the same hardware? I sure hope Apple is ready to go head to head in the performance sector of their os.
