Wrong. "Top of the line" Alienware would dispute the upper range of workstation-like machines, like the MacPro. Second, the price range is simply outside that of any iMac.

But that's not what you said. MOST POWERFUL DESKTOP. Any desktop machine running the fastest conroe will be faster than any of these imacs. If you're going to admit your claim was wrong, do it. But don't monkey around by trying to change the subject.

BRLawyer said:
Yes, I honestly believe that. Can you show me a better offer than the 24" iMac right now? Oh, running the best OS in the globe, please...thanks!

There you go again. First it's "most powerful", then "best" then "runs OSX"?

You obviously don't believe it's the most powerful since you've weaseled away from your original statement.

BRLawyer said:
Huh? Ya mean the best desktop on the planet? I am just reinforcing that...no worries...you may keep your Dell, maboy.

No, MOST POWERFUL DESKTOP. Do you still believe that or not? Looks to me like not.

I remember the first time I saw a 20" iMac. It looked so much larger in person than what I was expecting. I can't wait to check out the 24" model, but it'll have to wait a couple weeks since the closest Apple store is 2 hours away in Houston. Man, I bet that thing is a monster!

Now, is the gpu replaceable...

It would appear so, look at my first post in this thread. A couple of pages ago.

Someone earlier told us how the apple store he went to didn't yet have the new iMacs. I should head down to my local store and see if they have them in stock yet.

I ordered a 20" iMac a couple of weeks ago, but it hadn't been dispatched yet (in fact, it was due to be dispatched today). The Apple order status site was down earlier, until just after the Apple Store came back up with the new iMacs, and lo and behold, my order has been replaced with a 20" iMac Core 2 Duo!

They've even upgraded the RAM to 2GB (I'd paid for an upgrade to 1GB on the original order), and dropped the price I pay!

So top marks to Apple - a brand new iMac, specced higher than the original, for £80 less! I don't know many other manufacturers that would do this - it's the kind of service that keeps Apple customers loyal.

The only downside is, I was expecting it to be delivered on Friday but now I have to wait until the 19th! But really, I don't mind!

Well, a friend of mine bought a Dell, something was wrong with it, he sent it back and dell sent him a better laptop (bigger screen, more memory, bigger hard drive) for the same price so there are other companies that does what apple do (Not that I would ever buy a dell computer itself of course but... just saying..).

My local Apple store said they wouldn't have them until the 9th. Selection would vary in terms of what upgrades they had.

I decided to bite the bullet.

24" iMac with 500GB drive with 2GB RAM is on the way (well, in a few days). "The waiting is the hardest part."

Oooh. Upgradeable graphics card. They've finally come into the 21st century. 😉

I have longed for the days of the G4 iMac, arguably the most serviceable iMac Apple has ever manufactured. Maybe now that's changed.

I still have no desire to own an iMac (my G5 is rocking along quite nicely), but if I needed a cool, stylish all-in-one, I might be tempted now more than ever to snatch one up.

I think I'm going to move to the US and start being a Laywer, since you don't even seem to know the first thing about debate or even what basic statements mean.

You never said it was the "best" desktop on the planet, or that it was the "best" for the price. You said the iMac is "the most powerful desktop". Which is wrong. It isn't. Your statement is false.

Really rather simple stuff, especially for a lawyer.

Oh yeah, by debate you mean "you're full of crap"...sublime! 🙄

And by "powerful" I mean much more than processor speed...ain't I a great lawyer? 🙄

I live in a suburb of Chicago, and I have 2 Apple retail stores within 20 minutes of my house. I expected the new stuff to be released on the 12th (like everyone else), and when I woke up and found this out I immediately called both Apple stores. They said not only do they not have any of the new product, they haven't the slightest idea of when they were going to be sent new stuff.

That being said, I just went ahead and ordered mine through the Apple online store. I want the 24" badly (NVIDIA, better speakers, brighter screen etc), but my current desk setup just won't work with the size of the 24" so I purchased a 20" model, and upgraded the ram to 2gb, the graphics to 256mb, and the keyboard/mouse to wireless bluetooth. I really just wish Apple had gone all NVIDIA, oh well.

This will be my first ever Mac desktop (I own a 900mhz G3 14.1" that came with Jaguar and I never use it). This new system will be replacing my current desktop and I'm pretty damn excited. My current PC sounds like I live on an aircraft carrier with fighter jets. Now hopefully I can sell my PC and use the money to get a new iPod (current one HD just went bad a month ago) if they release updated models at this media event on the 12th. Woo!

I dream of a day when Windows fanboys and Mac fanboys can sit down and work out their differences over a good cup of coffee and a iTunes collection of Beatles songs.

You might say I'm a bit of a dreamer.

There's nothing wrong with standing up for the truth, and not letting people get away with being misleading (or lying). No matter how silly it is. 😉 If they think they can get away with it they'll just continue doing it!

I just have a personal, perhaps irrational, hatred of people who refuse to admit anything they said is ever wrong. No matter how obviously wrong it is, as in this case. To go on and then pretend you said something else just makes me madder. 😛

Oh man, you really need a chill pill...cool down, will ya? Trolls cannot get too nervous, and you've already crossed the line... 🙄

Headless Mac Mini Towers Next Tuesday! 🙄

OK, now you get the prize for best sentence to be used by the PC guy in future ads by Apple...with a pie chart, perhaps? 🙄

Im in Japan and before I click the "buy now" button.....Is the new 24 inch Imac HD compatible...Is it true HD or just a very nice screen ?

Sorry since this doesnt have a TV tuner...i was hoping it could replace my TV as well (if i use a third party HD tuner)

It's native resolution exceeds 1080p, so I would say yes.

As a long time fan of ATI, is NVIDIA that much better? I've got an ATI x1600 256mb in my MBP and it's pretty good for handling just about anything I throw at it.

I notice that the 17" iMac has the ATI, but the 24" has the NVIDIA.

Wednesday is the next Tuesday...but one does wonder why Apple let this out before Tuesday. It would have been a nice item to add to the buzz. That they released it a week early suggests to me they have some "exciting new stuff" 😉

Is the NVIDIA really that much better than the ATI with the same RAM?

Interestingly the formerly complete Mac family now has a new member in the form of the 24¨ iMac. Be interesting to see how 'complete' the Macbook family was now...

Or rather the Macbook PRO family 🙂

13" MBP anyone?

Love the 24" but I am wondering about the built in isight - on my 20" iMac I have to sit up straight to have a decent view/picture, do I have to 'stand up' for the 24?

🙄

With the Apple store going down yesterday, I can't help but think the release was a day late. Perhaps there was a problem?
