Well I guess this will make all those people think again who said that we cant have a smaller MBP/MB from Apple just coz Apple advertised that The MacBook Family is now complete. Someday we`ll definitely see a new family member for the MacBook line:rolleyes: . It better be 10/11" than a 19incher:eek:

Yeah. Labor Day. The Apple A-List of employees that do these changes need a day to prepare. That's why they ususally do it on Tuesday. But this week they were on Holiday until Tuesday. Thus the lanuch Wednesday.

What we were wondering about is why the apple online store was down yesterday morning for an hour with no apparent updates when the site came back up. I don't think Labor Day was included in that curiosity from our perspective. At least, I don't think it was relevant. I could be wrong though, as I normally am.:)

Excuse me if this was already said, but if there's a 24" iMac now, does that mean that Apple is going replace its 23" monitor w/ a 24" sometime soon? I just find it odd to have a 23" monitor and a 24" iMac. If they change the monitor, hopefully they'll add the rumoured 42" or however big monitor and increase the resolutions of the other monitors. I forget where I heard the 42" rumor, so don't ask.

"Old" ordered but not shipped iMac

I'm not a computer gamer (I play Half-Life 2 and HL2: Deathmatch on Windows, but that's it), but it never hurts to have a nicer component in a machine that you can't just go out to the store and buy a new part for.

Either way, I'm sure the 256mb X1600 will do me just fine.
Not a computer gamer here (PSP and GBA), but that makes sense to have a better card and not have to worry about upgrades.

With the Apple store going down yesterday, I can't help but think the release was a day late. Perhaps there was a problem?

It's down again and has been for the last few hours??

Anyone else having this problem?

I stopped at my local Apple Store (Cambridge, MA, USA) during the lunch hour to check out the new iMacs. Not only are they not on display, but the old prices are still posted next to the old models.

While I was there a sales rep was actually in the process of trying to sell an open box 17" core due iMac to an older lady for $1099! I took pity on the poor thing and shawed her the online store iMac page with the new models. She was flabbergasted to say the least. Not sure what happened next -- I walked out of there in disgust!

Is this what typically happens at the b&m Apple Stores, or should they update their info as soon as the online store starts carrying new stuff? I just can't believe Apple would not ship at leats one floor model to each of their b&m locations in time for the release of new products. Hate to think how many people will buy the more expensive old models and never realize they've been had.
That's nothing new. Apple NEVER does that. It usually takes them a week to get the new models. The price we pay for their secrecy.

As for why they don't update the prices after they update the store ... well, that's ridiculous. They could email management to notify them of a price change and to look out for it.

Just bought a 24" one. Tricked it out except the memory. I'll hold off on that, and get it cheaper elsewhere. I can't wait!!!!
I'm upgrading from a 15" 800mhz g4 iMac that i've had since early 2002. It's still going strong after being abused for 4.5 years, but I should notice a significant improvement in the performance :D .

Is the Apple Service Manual for the 24" iMac already available?

Maybe it will be possible to change the hdd on this new iMac cause there is much more room now.

Hey brother, same here. 15" 800 g4 sunflower iMac. Been waiting for the 64 bit Intel chips. Going to take the 24" plunge. I wonder about iSight and how it will work with a screen that large tho...I wonder if the angle will have to be tilted lower OR if they positioned the iSight angling lower to adjust for the added screen size. Hmmmmmmmmmmm...........

Well, we only know that the new prices weren't posted on the signs. I'd bet that when you ring them up, a reduced price comes up.

So this might be a good reason for someone who desperately needs a laptop, to go ahead and order a MBP with the free iPod promo, and hope to hell apple upgrades them with Core 2 Duo's soon.

Sure but that still doesn't help customers who are only looking and may buy if they saw it, now does it.

And then a week later you get your Smelly Core Duo MBP and the next day a re-designed, 2.33GHz core 2 duo mbp comes out for the same price ;) I wouldn't trust it :p

Congrats bluewire (and welcome to Macrumors). That's a good question that I had not seriously contemplated until now. One answer is that the screen isn't that much taller than a 20", as the extra 4" is on the diagonal; and also the vertical dimension will increase as much up as it does down, so the upward increase in the iSight placement, relative to a 20" ought to be fairly marginal (I'm sure someone probably will do the math). But it's certainly possible that the folks at Apple may have angled the iSight ever so slightly downward to compensate for this. Plus you can always tilt the screen to get a better view. I'm going to keep my old speakers though, they're so cool.

Nice.

Of course this also means all current iMacs on eBay should be a bit more reasonable.

Cool thing is, there's that lovely 14 day return policy that apple allows fortunately. As long as you don't buy a BTO MBP, just return it for the C2D MBP when it available. Simple, huh? If it still isn't announced after the 2 week trade-in expires, then you'll be stuck with a "smelly" CD MBP. You can trust it, at least for 2 weeks. :p

Approaching Apple.

This is helto's FIRST POST EVER. She/He Just Joined This Morning. Welcome to MacRumors helto. Better late than never. Now get cracking sending that old iMac back.Definitely. Do it NOW and ask for a supervisor to get the restocking fee waved. They will do it if you ask politely and persist. If they refuse to give you full credit for a significant upgrade to the 24" model hang up and call back and ask for another supervisor. Keep doing that until you get a sympathetic ear on the other end. Someone will give you full credit. They'll jsut shuffle what you have to the refurb store. No biggie.

If I contact Apple (I am in UK) any ideas as to a line of approach?
Should I complain that they have launched a new model 6 days after me receiving mine? Or should I just say I don't want it?

BTW. It was built to order and I got educational discount?

No. But if someone does that, they'll just find out that it's cheaper than they expected it to be. I just don't agree that apple stores are intentionally trying to screw over customers by leaving up old prices - this was just announced this morning, and I'm sure it just took them a little while to get the new signs put up.
