I currently have a Macbook Black with 2GB ram. I am planning on getting a 20" iMac. Can I use the same ram? I see that on the support page, the iMac uses PC-5400, but in my macbook it uses PC-5300, are they the same?

Also, on an unrelated note, does anyone recommend a certain cleaning material? I have been using the Costco Lens Cleaner kit with their cloths, or the Zeiss lens cleaning cloths that are approved for LCD's. Is that Monster iClean any good. Thanks
I use the iClean on my MBP and my MB and my iMac it works excellent

Get the 2x512 from apple, the 2x1gb from Crucial, sell the 2x512 on eBay and you'll end up spending less. ;)

Please note, this is coming from a lazy bastard who just picked 2x1gb for his 20" iMac.

Never sell the Apple-supplied RAM. If you have to use your warranty you'll be better off taking in a Mac that is in the same configuration as when you got it. Put the Apple RAM back in before you have it looked at.

The frustrating thing is I've arranged to go away for the weekend, so it's going to sit on my desk unused!

Had a bit of a fright with the screen at first, it was all pixelated and fuzzy for a while, flashing in and out. But now seems to have sorted itslef out, thank goodness.

No pictures yet, as I have to go in a minute.

I am amazed to receive it so quickly, especially as I'm in London. I ordered it at 2pm yesterday and it got here at 11.00am this morning! They must have them stockpiled already here in the UK!

Yes, exactly what I was thinking... in which case upgrading to 2GB through Apple actually seems to make the most sense - for once!

I currently have an iMac G5 with a fried logic board so I'm trying to think ahead...

You got a standard configuration, didn't you? I'm still looking at a ship date of sept 18th and a delivery date of sept 25th on my 20".

Yes, standard config. I'll add more memory at a later date.

My original ship date was for next Wednesday (13th Sept)!

I think what could have happened is Apple has these huge stockpile of iMac motherboards which they are now clearing with these new Core 2 Duo iMacs, notice also they can't support > 4GB of ram? These boards have the old NAPA32 chipset too.

Thats a very good point. I wonder if we can get confirmation no this. Does that mean the older iMac mainboard had graphics on an MMX card (or something similar) ?

The wait is killing me

Ordered the 24" and the ship date has not changed.. only been about 36 hours. But it kills me to see that so many seem to have their ship dates updated and sent and mine still sits there ... Sept 20 with due on the 25th... dieing here...   :) :D :p

Easy buddy - patience is a virtue.

The motherboard-architecture is still 32-bit, as it seems, as opposed to the 64-bitness of the Core 2 Duo processors. How will this difference affect the performance of the new iMacs? What does this mean for 'true' 64-bit performance when Leopard is here? Or does it only mean there is still a RAM limit?

What, in essense, is the difference between a 32-bit motherboard and a 64-bit one? Is it bad to have a 64-bit processor on a 32-bit motherboard? Is there a chance the iMacs will, some time in the near future, silently be bumped to a 64-bit motherboard? Or is that the Santa Rosa motherboard architecture I keep hearing about? That was due in mid-2007, right?

Are these iMacs still not the true 64-bit machines we were waiting for? Does this indeed mean that a Conroe minitower (the Mac Pro mini) will be announced Next Tuesday™?

We can but pray. But the recent Apple patents suggest it may be a possibility...

@#$%* Apple!!!

Why does Apple have this uncanny ability to make me feel like I need something that I'd never imagined 2 days ago? Before then, I was perfectly happy with my 20" iMac G5. Now, I can hear that 24" Core2 Duo iMac calling my name...

...dual core 64 bit capable processor...
...Front Row...
...iSight...
...faster graphics (espeially the 7600GT)...
...quieter...
...30% more screen real estate...
...brighter LCD...
...iLife '06...

I wonder if waiting for the Sept 12 keynote (it will have to include a number of substantial announcements for Apple to have introduced the new iMacs 1 week early) is the only keeping my finger off the trigger...

...must...put...credit...card...back...in...wallet...

Oh, no, I can hear it again! It's saying...

RESISTANCE IS FUTILE!

NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Come'on people - Is that all you got? Only 60 more replies and we'll have this baby to over 1000!

oh, I know how to get you going.....Any chance of a MidTower by Apple soon???

yes, the minitower/cube would be nice. I am considering a 24" Imac even though I hate AIO computers. Until there is a review on the 24"er covering the quality of the LCD I will stay clear. I would ideally like a cube with the 30" ACD.

Has anyone's C2D iMac shipped yet? I'm waiting on a BTO 20" and can't wait! :D

One individual reported that his was shipped already... mine still says will ship on the 15th and be delivered the 20th... I opted for 2 day delivery.. After $3k what is $33. ;)

Why, oh why, did I BTO? I can't get my iMac until the 25th unless Apple decides to speed things up!

EDIT: The real annoying bit is that I also got Parallels with it, and I'll be getting THAT next week! With nothing to install it on!

The ultimate iMac hehe. Nice personal hometheater system for my bedroom. 14 months I get the new iMac booyah!

Still wondering if I should get a projector, so I can get like 84-86" of viewing on my wall.
