The 200 GB HD is only 4200 RPM, that is just crazy. They could have at least found a 120 GB 7200 RPM.

Does the Protection Plan cover accidentals? And do you think it is worth the money to get a protection plan?

Thanks

CompUSA has a screen protection plan for ~$350 on top of AppleCare. It seems expensive but any damage repaired or replaced, no questions asked.

do all states have sales tax on computer orders, or just mine? I live in PA, and its an extra $150...

i live in Ontario Canada, and we up here have to pay 14% tax on orders, that adds a big kick for us when your looking for a something 2 buy u always need to think it's that much plus 14%

It could be different in your area, but i worked for Comp for about a year and half and they took that plan away while i was working it could be wrong. But another thing that sucks i wouldnt be surprised if comp went out of business in the next year or so. Thats jusy my .02 i know a few district managers

Buy from amazon.com. Apple certified dealer, new computers, no sales tax.

Any word on whether this is a true 'drop-in' or if they changed some things to address the heat issues, etc??

Well if they're smart i'd guess they'd do some revamp under the hood after all the issues that plagued the last revs. Current iMacs dont seem to have problems all that much so i'm hoping this transfers on to the MBPs

120GB 7200rpm doesn't exist yet... Maybe January if Seagate finally ships the one they half-assed announced a few months ago. Anyway the Hitachi and Seagate 160GB 5400rpm drives are king of the hill right now for both capacity and performance. The Hitachi model is just a hair faster, but only your highly sensitive benchmarking software will know the difference, ane even then only on every other tuesday.

The second one. You can upgrade a HD later but not a processor and video memory.

True, i will be driving my Dell display so its best to get the most VRAM available now.

FWIW, the 128MB VRAM in the low model is more than enough to drive the 30" display. OTOH, 256MB will come in real handy if you will be doing any 3D work or gaming on that big screen because it will give the GPU extra memory for textures and geometry data that is quicker to access than system RAM.

consider this option

do you guys think i should just go ahead and buy a macbook then? i would love a MBP, but its to expensive.. im just a highschool student, and the black would really be great.

i dont know what to do :(

buy a refurb 15" macbook pro almost same price as black macbook, but bigger screen and real video card

I'm planning on buying the base MBP model with the 128mb video card. Will that work fine with my 20in widescreen monitor? Or, do I need to get the 256mb video card version instead?

I am finally back...so much has changed on this site but anyway, I just ordered a 17" MBP w/ 160GB HD and 3GB of Ram. I am happy to finally see this upgrade from Apple, it was long over due.

Yes, that's right, within one year after the purchase.

The only downside to waiting is that you lose Apple phone support after 90 days.

Not really that big a deal but I personally think AppleCare is a necessity for laptops! The failure rate on laptops within 3 years is ridiculous, even Apple.

So what is with all of the negative votes? Troll's with one less thing to complain about?
Or people who bought MBPs 2 weeks ago. :D

It's like Christmas (or insert your preferred gift-giving holiday) came early, and everyone can't wait to tear into their new presents. :p Enjoy those new computers, everyone whose ordered!

Bought mine with a 160GB harddrive from the edu store. Estimated delivery of november 3rd. I'll officially be a switcher.

Oh, I also bought a trendy sleeve to protect it.

Might I say, that's a pretty snazzy looking case you got yourself. Looks like it would protect your investment quite well. Might have to get one myself...
