hmmmm wonder if i should stick with my matter screen or call up apple and change to the glossy...BUT i dont want to hold my order up...mine as well just stick with the matte...

i reckon stick with the matte...better all round, especially if you intend to do any form of graphic/photographic editing work (as i do)...

of course this is just my opinion, ive used both. a lot of people seem to like the glossy though! personal preference i guess

Just noticed a few changes to the Higher Education stores in the U.K-
The education discount has increased- A basic Macbook used to be £704 with discount, now its £643.

Also, the following comes up on the main page-

"3 year limited parts and labour warranty now standard
on all current Apple desktop and laptop computers.

Apple is pleased to announce that as part of the negotiated extension to the HE Agreement
all current Apple desktop and laptop computers are now provided with a
3 year limited parts and labour warranty
at no additional cost.
Details of the 3-year cover are provided in the HE Agreement Terms and Conditions,
which may be accessed at the bottom of the stores."

Am I reading this right?? A 3 year warranty comes with the computers without purchasing applecare??

rotary nut: We shall see, they said they should be in either "later today or hopefully tomorrow morning" yesterday at the store in tysons. No guarantees of course, but I have my fingers crossed.

i think that's how it is anyway! ive not looked into it properly...

can anyone confirm this?

This is definately a first.

Edit: i just checkd..Its SHIPPED!, OMG that was FAST!.

Edit 2: Thought i'd include a screenshot

Yes, the 3 year limited warranty on parts and labour was introduced for HE purchases in March, so it's been like that for quite a while. Since then I've already bought an iMac and 2 MacBooks that have that warranty.

One tip, the 3 year warranty does not include mail in repairs. So, if you want that, you still need to pay £60 for the EMAC uplift. If you do that then it becomes equavalent to AppleCare.

Oh, and actually, I should also mention that when they updated the edu store with the new MBPs there was an error so you now see AppleCare as an option when buying any machine on the Edu store. I phoned up about this and they told me it was a mistake and will be fixed. The 3 year warranty plus the uplift equals AppleCare.

Thanks for the info. My ship date is estimated as the 31st to arrive by the 7th. I really hope that it ships earlier as I sold my MBP before Photokina and have been without a Mac laptop for over a month now.

Can someone link to this on the Apple website so we know its official?

Does this apply to the ADC store or only the HE store? B/c if I purchase a computer through the one-time student ADC and it saves me $200 over the HE store, but then I have to spend another $230 on the warranty whereas in the HE store I could just spring for the upgrade - it seems that the ADC discount doesn't really seem nearly as worthwhile.

17" is due out next week, does anyone know if the 15" is available in the local Apple Stores--my store doesn't open for another two hours. :D
I think the local Apple Stores would be getting the C2D MBP later this week. The Apple Store I called in upstate NY said they are not expecting to get the updated units until then.

It only applies to HE purchases and you have to be either a current student or a member of staff.

I only have access to the UK HE store. I can't just give you a link because the stores are created on a per-institution basis, so the link to my university's store will not work for you.
