The big thing for me is the way the glossy surface clashes with the texture of the anodized aluminum. IMO it looks unserious and unprofessional.

Bottom Model For Driving A Projector Will Be Just Fine

Anyone here know anything about VJing? I want to use a Macbook Pro with software like Arkaos as well as music apps like ableton. Will getting the extra video RAM in the mid range model make any practical difference? Is the video card going to be good enough anyway to run a projecter?

I am pushing my budget to go with the pro rather than the Macbook so I would like to only fork out for the low end one if possible.
You'll be fine with the bottom 2.16GHz $1799 ed model. 128MB Video RAM is more than enough for a projector. I want to drive an external 30" Dell so that's why I'm thinking I'll need 256MB Video RAM but I'm really not sure that's true either. Anyone here know if you won't be gamin' but will be editing video will the 256MB Video RAM make a difference over the 128MB video RAM when driving a 30" display?

so far away...

Just placed my order for a 2.33Ghz, C2D MBP, 160 GB HD - 15" matte display, at 5:38 PDT via the Apple Education store. Got an email 20 mins later saying ship date is Nov. 1.

It can't get here fast enough :D

Yesterday, around 9:00am PST, I ordered a matte 17in C2D MBP w/ 2GB Ram and a 160HD . I did this through my school store's academic front-end to the Apple store. I got an Apple Order Acknowledgement email around
6:15pm PST.

They're estimating a Nov 07 ship date to my residence in San Diego, California, with the arrival date to be Nov 15.

This seems sort of late doesnt it? Has anyone else recieved similar dates for delivery? Is there a way I can have this student discounted order processed through one of my local Apple Stores, thereby getting it here quicker?

I just got off the phone with a guy at the apple store and he said they recieved some display models today but theyt wouldn't have sellable product for a week. However when i spoke with someone this afternoon they said they are expecting product as soon as tommorow. Is it really possible that apple retail stores don't even know what product is coming to them and when?

i was told my local store would most likely have them by the end of the week. i'm hoping we don't have to wait an additional week to get them from the apple stores.

the list could go on forever....

You could invest poker winnings in your new MBP - i play limit hold'em (8-16 or 6-12) and am a pretty tight card player. I made an ageement with myself - any mac purchases need to come from poker winnings.

Luckily, I won $1100 in the last two weeks, and can fund most of my new MBP purchase with that!

I hope so too. The wait has been long enough. I cannot think of another time in my life when i have been so eager to hand $2500 dollars of my own hard earned money over to a major corporation!

Bluetooth

So do these new mbps' have bluetooth in them. I want to buy a wireless keyboard\mouse combo to run my 23" ACD at the office.
Any recommendations for a wireless keyboard\mouse combo???

Thx

erm just checked the fine print on my order and apparent i didn't pick the glossy option and infact my order is indeed pure stock.

I guess i picked the wrong choice i had two models in my basket, stock with glossy and stock without glossy...must have picked the latter. Now sure how i missed it but oh well.

My brothers MB was a little more difficult to clean compared to my PB's Matte so i guess i can used that as consolation.

Also glad someone is reporting no whine/moo.

Both are built-in as a standard.

AirPort Express
MacBook Pro offers built-in wireless capability, and you can create your own wireless network with an AirPort Express.

Built-in Bluetooth
Connect wirelessly to Bluetooth-enabled peripherals or connect to the Internet via your mobile phone.

Just Phone To Switch Matt To Glossy

As stated above, Bluetooth and Airport Card come standard with the MBP.

As for which keyboard/mouse, get the Apple keyboard and wireless Mighty Mouse. Keyboards are keyboards... the extra media keys are dumb anyway. And the BTMM is awesome... I have two and have had absolutely no issues whatsoever.

15.4" 2.33 & 2.16 C2D MBPs on display at the Apple store today. Didn't check to see if they actually had any in stock or if these were just display units because I want a 17". Sadly, the 17" MBP were still Core Duo (too be expected, I suppose).

Also looked at a 17" MBP glossy side by side with a matte. Glossy looked so much nicer imho. But that's just my personal pref ;)

Thanx buts its too late mine shipped already this morning. In fact i was properly the first person on MR to get his order shipped....meaning its probably half way across to me.

Not really bummed about it, after all, i've been using matte for the past 3 years.;)

I thought the 256MB RAM would drive a 30" Monitor better. No?

256MB will drive the 30" monitor just fine. In fact, it would be more than enough to drive two of them if the system had another DVI-DL connection. Framebuffer requirements for a 2560x1600 display at 24bits (millions of colors) is roughtly 11.7MB. Figure 24MB of your VRAM will cover both the 30" display and either the 15" or 17" MBP screen plus associated buffers. That leaves over 225MB free for other things. Plenty good for most anything with the exception of serious OpenGL, games and other 3D graphics tasks. Games like WoW require a minimum 64MB of video memory, but recommend 256MB or more. I can run a 30" plus a 24" monitor on my G5 Quad w/256MB 7800GT card and it handles WoW and most all my other programs just fine. But I could see where 128MB could be problematic running the 30" along with another display and trying to run 3D graphics apps/games.

So, if you're going to be doing any gaming and/or running 3D applications on your MBP - especially with a secondary monitor like the 30" attached, I would definitely recommend the 256MB VRAM.

Newegg has various 1GB choices for less than that today... The GigaRAM modules are $86 each. Looking at the reviews, it seems like decent stuff although the modules are thicker due to them placing chips on both sides of the PCB. Might be problematic, but some are reporting it works fine in MBP. I'd probably spend thextra $15 per module and get the OCZ, G.Skill or Transcend modules that we know work.

No Games No 3D Except Motion 2

No Games. No 3D. But Video Editing including Motion 2. 128MB Still enough for that?

I'm thinking of the 2.16GHz 128MB Video RAM $1799 Educational bottom of the line with a 160GB HD and a 1GB stick from Omni for a total of only about $2k - sort of a SuperMacBook.

Has anyone with a 2.33 15" with a 160gb hd had theirs ship yet? I called this morning to try and see if I could convince them to hurry my order up for a school project, but was told it would most likely ship within the first 24 hours. I don't think the Apple guy knew what he was talking about. He did sound busy and it got me off the phone fast. He must have accomplished his mission.

I ordered at 8:01pm 10/24

Est. ship date 10/31
Est. delivery date 11/3

I also paid for the two day shipping.
