to all the people being frustrated on the shipping...i know your pain..mine STILL has not shipped! and i ordered mine like 30mins after they came up on the site, est ship is still oct 30th est delivery is nov 6....still dont understand why it hasnt shipped yet...:-(

edit- been told now that i will have a tracking number tonight..it is being prepared to ship as we speak..(of course i was told this in AM and than i was told it wasnt...) wait and see..hopefully today...my first mac..SOOO pumped :)

just got off the phone with apple. if you call them, you can find out where in the production line your mbp is. i found out mine has been assembled and boxed, and is just waiting to be picked up by fedex. i asked where it was shipping from and she said "overseas, which typically means china." she said that it takes one day to get from china to the US, and then 4-5 days for fedex ground (however, since im in california and they come here upon entering the US, more like 1-2). I'm a little annoyed that its taking this long, considering I ordered 5 minutes after the site went up.

For those of you who want to compare this order to your order, i got a 2.33ghz with 120gb hard drive. and oh yeah, a matte screen :)

i was just told the same thing about my order...sounds like our machines are very similiar...hoping for the tracking tonight...

Glossy
Pros: Sharper, appears brighter, color saturation, higher contrast
Cons: Minimal glare, possible strain on eyes, smudges show up worse

Matte
Pros: Truer color, smudges dont look like someone knifed the screen, easy on eyes
Cons: Not as seemingly bright, not as much color saturation

if someone can confirm or refute the eye thing, im pretty sure thats my determinant. i spend a lot of time on my computer writing papers and such, and i dont want to need glasses after using my new MBP for a month.

May I ask you when your credit card was charged? Mine hasn't been charged yet and I'd like to know if it's charged a few hours before building and shipment or longer time in advance (one or two days before).

Yes it was charged 15 mins after clicking the order button. :)

That's strange. I ordered the same system as yours and they didn't charge me. I called the credit card support and they told me that apple just checked if the card could be charged but nothing more. I think I'm calling apple tomorrow.

My two orders (both CTO) were placed with a business debit card. Both orders reflected a hold amount on my checking account for the full amount of the order, immediately upon placing order. Even though I cancelled one order today and then placed second order I still have two holds (they haven't released first yet). Luckily this is business account with plenty of $ or I might not be thrilled to have apple holding onto $4000+ for one laptop that has yet to ship... :)

When I bought my powerbook last year, i used a debit card and was charged immediately. But I ordered a not-BTO and the availability was "24 hours".

Well mine says its complete in the status page but still has not shipped. Like those of you whose order has not shipped its a 2.33ghz matte with a 160gig HD. Hopefully later today but prolly tomorrow.

I ordered mine on Oct 24, 2006 at 06:10 AM PDT
I paid for the 2 Day Shipping Option and it is not yet shipped.
The order status says: Estimated shipped by Oct 31.
I don't have estimated delivery date... Is it normal ?
I ordered a MBP 2.33, 160 GB with matte display.

Perhaps a credit card issue. As I use a french credit card to order on the Canadian Store ? Or perhaps ADC customers have to wait more?

I ordered from the ADC store and I'm in the same boat pretty much. I ordered the same system as you (woot!) and it gave me a shipping and delivery date, but hasn't sent me a conf. email yet. Kinda odd. I called and they said they were waiting for the ADC to approve the order.

I hope they approve it NOW!

I do not see the estimated delivery date either... I ordered 2.33/160GB/3GB.

I believe the two day shipping is how long it takes to get from the factory to you. It doesn't mean you get yours built and shipped in two day. I am not sure if that is what you intended or not. I actually think it is a two or three day shipping, not just two day like the status page lists.

The same thing for me from the ADC store. I never recieved a confirmation email, but I got a ship and delivery date.

They cancelled my order and replaced with a new order. The reason being that when I placed my order on the 24th in the invoice it said I was getting a 20 in flat screen at no additional charge. I guess someone seen that and replaced the intial order with the correct one. Bummers

My order is broken down into three parts on the Apple Order Status page.

The first for the printer, this has a tracking number. The second is for the mouse, keyboard and HE uplift which also has a tracking number.
Both are shipping via UPS but I cannot track either (using the tracking numbers provided) on the UPS website. I have confirmed they are valid UPS tracking numbers and that I am not confusing them with anything else. The error returned when attempting to track them states that the shipping details could not be found and it has been like this for a little over 24 hours thus far.

The MBP, also marked as shipped, has no tracking number and has a shipping method of 'Merge in Transit GB'.

I'm assuming that all these shipments will eventually come together and be delivered as one.

Having received dozens of orders from Apple to the UK I know a bit about the process.

The HE uplift thing is just the AppleCare book and the TechTool CD. Both this (in a padded envelope) and the MacBook (in a box) will be delivered at the same time. The final stage of the delivery (to your door) is made by UPS and the UPS tracking number won't work until the day (or maybe two days) before the laptop reaches you. You can check the UPS site for that.

If you go to your Apple Order Status and click the UPS tracking number it will take you to the Shipment Status page that has an entry "Our Delivery Refernce Number". This is the TNT tracking number (starting in 80xxxxxx), and yes it's odd that it's shown when you click the UPS link.

The TNT tracking number won't work immediately, but will work a day or two after you got the original shipping email. The best site for tracking in the earlier stages is http://www.apecode.com/appletrack. Just put that TNT number in there. If you click Track! and see nothing change it means the number isn't working yet. Try again the next day.

has anyone else had this happen to them ?

I'd counsel you to go the matte screen route. That's what i'll be doing when i order (tomorrow, i think). I will, of course, provoke the outrage of the glossy-screen camp, but that's to be expected.

My reasoning: smudges and glare will make my screen a lot less fun to look at. and considering that i, like you, spend a lot of my time staring at my screen and writing things, i want that to be as painless as possible. The glare is just not something i want to have to deal with.

I suppose if you use your computer mostly for watching movies, the glossy screen is the way to go. Otherwise, I can't in good concience, recommend it.

As always, though, please make your own decision. I'm just another guy with too many opinions, so feel free to discount what I've got to say.
