still waiting on them to ship mine. i ordered mine literally 5 minutes after they were available online. It's a 15.4" 2.16 CTO, but nothing special, just a glossy screen and iWork preinstalled. Maybe it's iWork that's throwing it off. Anyhow, it says a shipping date of Oct. 30 and delivery on Nov. 1. I sure hope it comes faster than that. It's my first Mac. All of the other stuff I ordered arrived today: Mighty Mouse, Wireless Keyboard, laptop case.

you're not the only one...i ordered 15 mins after they came out...had to get the approval from the wife...mine still hasnt shipped yet either...gotta be soon...cant understand why it hasnt....

Has anyone here ordered the 17-inch Core 2 Duo Mac Book Pro? I'm curious what your estimated shipping & arrival dates are.

Apple is saying I'm not getting mine until November 15th. This seems very late and I am very frustrated. I want to know if anyone else has earlier dates for similar specs.

If so, I can use this information to (hopefully) convince them to ship earlier.

I ordered mine within 2 hours via Education discount and my shipping date is 10/30. If you go to the store and play around with the options, once you add the glossy screen it makes the ship time 3-5 days. I assume they mean business days, which makes my estimate correct.

Wait, for the 17-inch? You ordered a 17-inch C2D MBP with a glossy screen and you should be getting it BEFORE mine even ships. That makes no sense.

Now I'm really pissed.

Yup - you and I are in the exact same situation, except that I ordered the 15.4" 2.33 CTO. Ship date of Oct 30, deliver Nov 1. Usually Apple is conservative with its shipping dates, so hopefully it'll ship tomorrow instead :)

My new MBP 15" 1G 2.16GHz 120GB, ordered Tuesday AM, just left Anchorage, so I guess it's on one of these flights: FX90 or FX12. It would be a miracle if it gets to me in Toronto tomorrow, but I have some hope.

Mine too! When's your est. arrival date? My MBP is the same config as yours, and is supposedly arriving Monday, Oct. 30. I wonder if it will get here any faster because I'm in California...

My date is the same as yours. I'd definitely say you have a better chance of getting it tomorrow. Mine has to get through an extra layer of customs. :(

For anyone who ordered in T.O

I just got off the phone with Apple and they said that my Macbook Pro is being prepared to ship and within the next 24 hours they will send it out.

I'm in Toronto. I ordered on tuesday around 8:45 am Eastern.
2.33GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 2GB 667 DDR2 SDRAM, 160GB Serial ATA Drive@5400rpm

I CAN'T WAIT!!!!!

TOMORROW?! I wasn't even expecting that. Could it get here that soon? I'm ecstatic! Well... we waited this long, right? What's another few days?

A really big deal now that I know it is happening. Before it was just maybe. Now it is going to happen and I know what is happening and I have to wait.

I ordered 8:00pm PST on Tuesady and just recieved an email confirmation a few hours ago. I hope it doesn't delay my order. I think the delayed email may be from the ADC store confirming the order. Anyways, I am still at ship on Oct 31 and Deliver on Nov 3. And that is with the 2 day shipping.

Got mine today... called Apple they said it would ship sometime next week. I called both Apple stores in Toronto and they said not till next week. I called back this afternoon and the YorkDale one had a few in... I just transfered stuff over from my old MBP. It feels very very fast... my Illustrator didn't transfer over though, so thats a little annoying... but I'll see if I can get it over later.

I got the base model and haven't put my extra gig stick in and already I can feel a difference (could be in my head, but I notice it)

Just my 2c

Quick newbie question: when is the best time I should calibrate the battery? Not only is this my first ever Mac, it's my first laptop, so I don't know much about what to do. Any suggestions would be helpful (even after four months of reading articles and trolling the forums). Thanks!

When it says "Allow the battery to rest in the fully charged state for at least two hours," does it matter how much longer the computer is hooked up? Or would it be fine if I started using the computer on battery after two hours? This process seems like it takes a really long time, and I don't have that much free time.

wait until you have free time. calibration helps the long term care of the battery and gets the meter to be correct. if you wait a day or two, so be it.

I never once have done calibration on my 3 17"s and I always got expected battery life and never had meter problems. I just plug it in when I get it and start using it. Go figure.

I think some people hit the calibration areas without trying: if you charge machine to full and leave it there, then let it fully run down and leave it there as well. (in the case of newer machines, for a few hours at each end). I have only done a "purposeful" calibration maybe once but if I think of my use patterns they hit this at least once every week or so. Fully charge at desk, sit charged at desk, later use fully down in bed on battery, let sit (overnight). Voila, calibration without knowing it.

Fantastic. With school and work (and partying ;) ), I don't know where I'm going to find the time.

No...

Why? When leopard comes out it can handle 32-bit and 64-bit apps so why would they not give there customers the choice?
edit: he posted nevermind..

No, there is no real good way for Apple or anyone to disable the EM64T (64-bit) extensions.

$520 for Sexy?

To Multimedia, and others who were curious about my setup:

YES, currently the Macbook is my only mac, and my old PC has 2 VGA outs, so I couldnt drive it with that.

The Macbook is driving the 30" ACD using the $19 Apple mini-dvi --> DVI adapter. Of course it is driving it at a pitiful 1280x800 !! Check the pictures again and you will notice how huge those desktop icons are!! LOL :p

So yeah until the MBP gets here I am sitting an extra foot away :) It does scale quite well though, considering.

Oh and Multimedia, the reason I went with the edu ACD @ $1799 over the Dell... Just look at it !! Seriously. Sexy.
I would like to write something but can only come up with the text equivalent of "speechless" $520 for your perception of "sexy?" I don't even see any part of my monitors but the screens 90% of the time as I work in the dark almost all the time. You lost me at $520 thrown down the toilet.
