I like the way glossy looks, but I've read some stuff on the eye-strain, and that sorta worries me as my eyes are easily strained. I've sat a matte and glossy side by side, and I just love the way glossy works. I can't decide.

If you love the glossy, why not get it? It's what some people want and I don't see the issue if you like it - maybe use it in the store for a while. You can always exchange it, that would be an expensive exchange and a pain (I *think* Apple store is 14 days and 15% - definitely check first) but it's not completely irreversible if you feel you've made a mistake after using it for a week.

Personally I greatly like matte but if you "like" and "really love" glossy I think you have your choice - there is no "wrong"

LOL - I just read the above reply - he'll never decide now... :) Just buy *any* one, they're great!

To answer the question of what wireless card is in the MBP C2D…..

Update: The wireless card in the Core 2 Duo MacBook Pro is identified as a Atheros AR5008 802.11n chipset which is another "draft 802.11n" card which is described as "Up to 650% Faster & 5X Farther than 802.11g".

Another draft 802.11n card was discovered in the recently released Core 2 Duo iMacs as well. There is speculation that the upcoming iTV from Apple will support the unfinished 802.11n protocol which promises faster speeds and greater range than the current 802.11g standard.

This is from a report submitted by arn in the MacRumors.com in Brian's Macbook Pro (C2D) Review

Q: What wireless network card is in the new C2D MBP?
A: The card is based on the Atheros AR5008 802.11n chipset.
Additional: The card only supports 802.11g in OS X, however in Win XP via BootCamp you can get full "n" functionality by installing the driver for the D-Link DWA-645 (version 102). Link to driver ---> http://www.dlink.com/products/support.asp?pid=489&sec=0#drivers

You will get it when apple sends you a shipment email. If you didn't receive such email, your product has not shipped yet (unless you can read the opposite on the web site) and so you have to wait.

My wife has one on here MB. I am doing a lot of DVD authoring and FCP work on this machine so when I can't be hooked up to an NTSC monitor I find that it's easier to judge colors on my matte screen. Maybe I'm just used to it instead, I've never really tried to get used to the glossy. My wife loves hers but she also likes it when our plasma that has been professionally calibrated was set to the wrong preset.

I think it's great Apple has the choice provided, the more they can offer what other companies are offering and still keep innovating the longer they'll keep making the incredible progress that they've made over the last five years.

How long between charging your Visa and shipping?

Evidently Apple tried to charge my card sometime this morning. My company declined it because it "violated my normal spending pattern". ?!!! This is... let's see, my ... 18th? Mac. You'd think they'd have figured it out by now.

Anyway, now that's straightened out, did I fall out of some queue I will have to reenter? How long should I expect until shipping?

Congrats on shipping! Good thing.

I have almost the exact machine - 15"/2.16/160GB/matte/free ship - just 1GB RAM (buying RAM 3rd party) - and my (re)order was placed Oct 26, 2006 at 10:47 AM.

We're both Pacific time zone so they shipped 'out of order'. This is hard to make sense of... :)

Westside guy, when did you get your shipping confirm, just now? That would be great, maybe I'll get one shortly.

I'm bummed out that I had to re-do my order, I originally placed it on 10/24 (not pretending that would change anything :) )

Do the retail Apple stores ever carry "common" CTO configs? I've always been assuming that since my desire is the 15" 2.16 w/CTO 160GB drive that I couldn't find it at one of the Apple retail stores.

I'm going to repost the question I asked earlier in the thread to see if I can get a few more answers!

and... does anyone know about any of the Apple stores in Texas? preferably in the Houston area? do they have any of the new ones in yet?

The Galleria and Memorial City are the only two that Apple has on their site. And according to Apple, they're acting just like we consumers this time around and ordering at the same time we do, so my guess: Next week to the week following.

I just found it funny that I ordered my MBP C2D to western Canada and it was shipped from china to alaska, then down to tennesse, which is the opposite direction across north america, haha. I guess the shipping companies must just fly them into the main land shipping hubs or something...

Oh, mines a 2.33/2MB/120GB/15"matte ordered on tuesday

Eventually a good news for me!
I can't cancel my order anymore and so this means they're building my baby! I hope it'll be shipped on monday: the glossy display made me wait longer than others but the most important thing is having it in my hands by the end of the next week. And I think it will be so.

Hope for you it's not really "2MB" RAM otherwise you'll be on big troubles...

I got the shipping notification today, but package was received by FedEx in China after the cutoff time, so it is scheduled for Tues.

(Was supposed to ship on 30th and get here Nov. 2)

Now the estimated date is Nov 1st. But EVERY FedEx package I have ever receieved in this town (which is a lot) comes exactly one day BEFORE the estimated. Weird?

Anyway, so mine is in FedEx hands, but probably wont move until Mon.

15"
Stock except Glossy.

Yup, I got the notice just before posting here. :)

I don't know if this is helpful, but sometime yesterday my displayed order (on Apple's site) changed slightly - it stopped showing "CTO" on my order. Maybe that's just a coincidence; or maybe it was an indication that they were done configuring it?

bob_hearn - sorry about the shipping slot, but it's every man for himself! :D

I dont think it matters when they charge your card either...

When I got the 30", I used a debit card, and after ordering the amount was placed on hold (which made it look like the amount was gone) but the hold released in a couple of days, which made my balance come back up...

Then one day AFTER I had the monitor, the actual charge went through.

To buy the MBP, I split it amongst the same Debit and a Credit card and the same thing has happened. Even though it has shipped and I just now got the invoice email from Apple, the hold has released and no money gone yet.

Well mine is still listed as "CTO" so we'll see. I just logged in again - can't cancel, that's good (not sure when that changed, haven't looked for that until reading recent post).

They need an "order status" widget.

Hey, better yet a webcam. There it is... it's getting a keyboard... look, now there's a screen. A powersupply! RAM! It's almost finished... why no harddrive? Where's the harddrive? WTF?

Anyone know who's selling 2GB RAM modules (other than Apple)? I have a 1GB sitting here slated for the MBP coming but I've been thinking about upgrading to 3GB total on this new machine - when I do online searches for a 2GB stick I end up getting all 1GBx2 kits.

Whoo Hoo!

Hi Everyone-

Given my shipping status, my MMBP is currently at the Fedex facility about 5 miles from my house. Unfortunately, I can't get it today, but should be delivered on Monday.

Not bad for leaving Shanghai on Thursday! I supposed the proper palms were greased and there were no customs issues.

I'll let you all know when she comes in. This is my first Mac, and I approve of this message.

Same here. I wish that I can just go there and get it.
