I have to admit I'm jealous. How are UK people getting their machines delivered so quickly? Apple state that UK shipping typically takes 7-10 business days. If you get it on Tuesday that's only 4 business days, and far faster shipping than I've ever seen from China to the UK by Apple.

I guess its compensation for not offering faster shipping options here?

I have sort of a stupid question (sorry), but I didn't find the answer easily anywhere else. Basically it demonstrates that I know nothing of macs.

Will OS X 10.5 be a free download if you already have 10.46, or is it the type of 'major upgrade' that you have to buy?

I'm just trying to see if I should consider this in the better-to-wait-for-it column of tech advance, or the might-as-well-buy-now column. Obviously if it's free there is no point in waiting to buy a laptop bundled with it.

It's a new OS that you buy. $130 regular price, $70 or 80 with a student discount.

It's not coming out until maybe Mayish of next year if I'm remembering right.

Yes but I'm in the UK and mine shipped on the 26th and isn't due to arrive until the 6th (7 business days, 11 days total).

Mine's working, I'll PM you my tracking code so you can see what it looks like when it works.

Thank you maverick, yours work fine, but mine still doesn't work. Maybe their is a problem with my order. God, I can't even think of a delay in my MBP arrival.

I sent you a PM with my tracking code. Please check for me if it works. Thank you once again.

Each 10.V.x (where x changes) is a free upgrade. Each time "V" changes it's a full revision and a new product - so a full charge as mentioned above.

If you have 10.4.8 for instance you can upgrade (and will be notified via Software Update in OS) and download for free any future 10.4 - 10.4.9 etc. 10.4 is already at .8 since it's close to the end of being updated.

When 10.5 comes out you'll have to pay unless you purchase a new machine after it's release, in that case it'll be installed on that machine. 10.5.1, 10.5.2 etc. will be free downloads.

More information for those of you wondering how long yours will take to ship:

I ordered my 15" 2.33Ghz machine on Tuesday evening, and it shipped from Shanghai today and is supposed to be here sometime on Halloween. I took the free shipping option.

I chose the standard configuration, so there are no BTO options slowing my order down.

Thats the way i thought before getting my Dell. However to this day i dont regret getting it. The current Apple displays don't tempt me that much to be honest. Maybe when they're updated......

I agree. I own two Dell 30" displays and one Apple 30" (as well as several other 20" and 24" models from Dell & Samsung). The Dell 30" is very nice looking even though the black bezel doesn't quite match. The silver stand still looks great next to the aluminum of the MBP or Power Mac or Mac Pro. It's a top notch product and I have zero complaints about them and actually prefer them over the Apple 30" for a few more reasons than just price. In fact, I bought my first one back in January when Dell first started shipping them and they were the same price as the Apple model. I went with Dell at the time because I needed a 30" for a G5 Quad and opted to use my Dell credit account that was running a no interest for 12 months special.

The Apple monitor is nice, but I wouldn't sacrifice the couple extra adjustements and $700 just to have a 30" that matched a little better. Say what you will about Dell systems (most of their consumer desktops and notebooks are complete junk), but they have the best deal in monitors right now.

Once it reaches the Arnhem hub you get it the next day business day. However, since it's a Friday the weekend might mess things up. You might get it Monday, and you'll definitely have it by Tuesday.

I wish my order was progressing quite as fast... according to appletrack:

25 okt 06 30 63 handover at supplier Apple Shanghai 01 nov 06
25 okt 06 30 64 Departed from source Kuehne & Nagel Shanghai 01 nov

:(

There doesnt seem to be a pattern to how Apple is shipping these things. So you could even move past me while im stuck in the Nederlands

Since I wanted to know every detail about everyone elses ship time while I was waiting, I thought I would post my details.

As I mentioned earlier, I order a stock 15 2.33 at 6:02am PDT on tuesday. I used the online ed store and I chose expedited shipping. (I know that was a mistake, more on that in a moment.) My original shipping estimate was Oct 30, estimated delivery Nov 2.

I received confirmation from Apple that it shipped at 2:50am EDT today. I recieved an invoice for the expedited shipping about 6 hours before that, and an invoice for the mbp about 6 hours after that.

Fedex shows that it left Shanghai at 12:43pm today (no timezone, but it can't be my local time since it showed that several hours before noon) They are estimating delivery Nov 1.

Which brings me back to the expedited shipping... it shiped 3 days early, and is only going to arrive 1 day early? That is a mighty long 2 days between now and Nov 1. I guess I have to call apple and ask for a refund.

Anyway, I hope that gives hope to those that are still waiting.

I have to agree. I have the Dell 24" display and it's fantastic and a great price. There is no compelling reason to get the Apple display unless the aluminum is worth the hundreds of dollars difference to you.

Got mine today. Ordered 3pm Tuesday, shipped Wednesday, on my doorstep at 10am today.

I really have to say this was fast.

15'' lowest model, matte

Enough of FedEx! 15 Still underclocked?

Aside from all the shipping stories, can anyone who has received a 15 confirm that the ATI card is still underclocked or not?

Ordered: 17", 3GB ram, Glossy, Applecare. Am planning on paying for it with a quick blackmarket kidney sale ;)

w00t!
