Probably - for battery concerns.

You buy bottom 2.16GHz MacBook Pro $1799 Ed + $90 for 160GB HD, + 1GB stick for $99, + a Dell 24" 1920x1200 for $679 for a total of $2667. You're good to go.dmaxdmax said:Forgive me if this has been addressed but I stopped following the thread at about page 40. (I think)
iLife + M$Office + Mail, Add Book, Firefox etc = About 95% of my activity. I'm planning to learn and use FCExpress. How much performance will I lose by getting a MacBook? I don't game or do 3D stuff and I don't foresee starting in the next couple of years. I don't have a need for Windows but if my wife inherits it she'll probably need it. 75 - 90% of my work is at my desk and I would guess that's were all of the video editing will be done.
Assuming I can wait for the C2D MacBooks, further assuming that they put a good chip in them, will I kick myself for not going Pro? I figure for about the price of a MBPro (17" since I won't be able to afford a 2nd monitor) I can get a MB + 20" display + wireless peripherals. Since most of my work will be at my desk having a dual monitor would be great - I might even go with the 23".
A couple of hundred dollars difference isn't a big deal. That only hurts when you pay the CC bill. Lack-luster performance will hurt for years.
Thanks for the gray cells.

Objectively look at all the features on the DELL that the Apple displays don't have:Reach said:I'm with you, displays last a long time for me, and looking at Apple's displays and not being frustrted that it says Dell and is slightly ugly is good for me in the long run. Otherwise I would just wish it looked as good as the cinema displays.
Multimedia is opinionated, let him, he might be saying it and repeating it all day long just because he hopes that will make Apple lower the price, because deep down inside, he would prefer that his monitor carried an Apple-logo and looked good.![]()
Multimedia said:Objectively look at all the features on the DELL that the Apple displays don't have:
1. Elevator. Height adjustment from 18.5" to 22". Apple none.
2. Swivel Stand 60º either way. Apple none.
3. 9-Way Memory Card Reader connected to the USB 2 line so it's really like a 5-Port USB 2 Hub. Apple none.
4. 4-Port USB 2 Hub. Apple 2-Port USB Hub + 2-port FW Hub DELL has not. i can buy a 3 port FW Hub for $30 if I need it.
5. Black frame doesn't reflect screen in dark. Apple Shiny Frame reflects screen in dark.
6. DELL logo. Apple Apple.
7. DELL 20" & 24" Monitors all swivel 90 degrees. If you have an ATI video card in your Mac, they all support that swivel for poster design for example.
All Dell monitors less than 30" include S-Video, Composite Video and the 24" have RGB Component Video inputs too. They also all have analog VGA inputs in addition to DVI Inputs so you can drive two different Macs through one screen.
Plus they cost radically less money. I doubt Apple will ever offer monitors as well as DELL does. I am sold on DELL's quality and I am not alone here on this one. AppliedVisual please?
I had a built to order 2.16 GHz MBP and it has been shipped today (10/27). Double checked my card, and it was zapped for the money.
Can't wait...![]()
When did you order your BTO. I ordered the 15" lower end with 2GB RAM upgrade and hard drive upgraded to 160GB. I have been checking my order status 2000 times a day. I thought I was the only crazy one but I guess all of you are just like me or some of you are bigger freaks than me.. I have been with Windows and officially switching. Hopefully it will be a good experience.
Just a point to note. My order status was showing not yet shipped and the laptop order was showing up as MBPRO 15/2.16. I had emailed apple about my status and they said it was ready to be shipped but unfortunately its weekend now so it might ship only on Monday. DOES ANYONE KNOW if apple Shanghai assembling unit ships on Saturdays?
Also a thing to note was when my order was in the prepared to be shipped status (this is internal apple status not available for public) my laptop like item started showing this. MBPRO 15/2.16/2G/160/128VRAM/SD-DL-USA
Z0DP1LL/A. Earlier it was MBRP 15/2.16 Z0D. This is just a guess that when your order is ready to be shipped it might show up like mine. Dont hold me to this.
Again please let me know if the Shanghai unit has ever shipped on a Saturday. I might die of this anxiety. PLEASE HELP ME.![]()
I had a question that anyone can answer really.. actually, I'd prefer multiple answers! I was just wondering how you're going to go about paying for the MBP... I've been waiting for Merom since August as well, but yet.. I just can't let myself spent almost $2400 in one shot.
I got the same configuration as you and ordered on the 24th. This will be my first Mac as well. I too was going crazy checking the site. I hope yours ships soon. It must be soon...![]()
I guess I'll just never be able to decide between glossy and matte, and just will end up never buying my new computer. This sucks - I can't make a decision. I like the way glossy looks, but I've read some stuff on the eye-strain, and that sorta worries me as my eyes are easily strained. I've sat a matte and glossy side by side, and I just loe the way glossy works. I can't decide.
