I should have my laptop today (tomorrow at the latest)..

What are some good benchmarking tools that I can use to include in a review I'm writing..

The Galleria and Memorial City are the only two that Apple has on their site. And according to Apple, they're acting just like we consumers this time around and ordering at the same time we do, so my guess: Next week to the week following.

yeah, I wanted to check out those stores, but I didn't know if it was worth it to drive over there or not. they're opening up an Apple store in the Sugarland area... First Colony Mall, I think... :D!

I ordered mine on Oct 24, 2006 at 06:10 AM PDT
I paid for the 2 Day Shipping Option and it is not yet shipped.
The order status says: Estimated shipped by Oct 31.
I don't have estimated delivery date... Is it normal ?
I ordered a MBP 2.33, 160 GB with matte display.

Perhaps a credit card issue. As I use a french credit card to order on the Canadian Store ? Or perhaps ADC customers have to wait more?

i ordered mine on ADC also, have exact same timeline. ordered at 8am pst day of announcement.

i dont believe it's cause of ADC, the units shipping are the ones without 160gb hard drives. mainly it is units without customizations. stock models.

some of my order has already shipped though.

I ordered from the ADC store and I'm in the same boat pretty much. I ordered the same system as you (woot!) and it gave me a shipping and delivery date, but hasn't sent me a conf. email yet. Kinda odd. I called and they said they were waiting for the ADC to approve the order.

I hope they approve it NOW!

i ordered mine, had a brief delay and need for me to call in. but then they did whatever approval process was needed internally, very quick, and the timeline on my order didnt change.

all that got held up were the airplane adapter or the extra battery, which both have shipped already. Still says my new MBP is shipping on oct 31st. express, so im hoping it ships early, but.... well i just hope to get it soon, before weekend.

They cancelled my order and replaced with a new order. The reason being that when I placed my order on the 24th in the invoice it said I was getting a 20 in flat screen at no additional charge. I guess someone seen that and replaced the intial order with the correct one. Bummers

same thing as me. did yours include a BTO, like 160 gb hd?

just checked my order... but no 20" display now. looks like my order, when i saw red type on orderstatus page to call in, action was needed. they adjusted my ADC order to not include it. not worried. still getting great price.

My 2.33 MMPB shipped

I ordered a 2.33 MMBP 120GB 2G Matte at 10:30 AM PST Wednesday and it shipped...

Should receive it on Wendesday 11/1.

I'm pshyched...

I've heard this said several times on this forum, and I did pick the 160GB drive - but does anyone actually have PROOF that the 160GB drive is one of the ones with PMR?

Apple is currently using Fujitsu drives in their notebooks and both Fujitsu and Seagate 160GB models have PMR. But You could always get stuck with a Hitachi (Apple likes to use Hitachi drives in their desktops and occasionally in notebooks). The Hitachi 160GB is LMR and therefore is a bit better for seek times, but is a bit slower for overall performance. Either way, don't worry about it. As I've said before (and have others), the actual performance difference between 100GB 7200rpm drives and all the other 5400rpm drives that are 120 and 160GB are so slight, only your benchmarking software will know the difference. I've personally owned and managed several systems with 100GB 7200rpm drives as well as the 120GB 5400rpm and I have the 160GB Seagate in my current MBP (aftermarket install). I can tell you that the 160GB is the king of the hill for overall performance. According to some benchmarking I've done, it pretty well falls in line with what the hardware sites claim -- the 100GB drive is *slightly* and let me re-emphasize that *slightly* faster for randomized seek and access. But for most real-world file transfers, application loads and whatnot, the 160GB still beats it in actual usage. ...And the difference isn't readily apparent. Because when reality comes around and makes sense out of all these numbers, the fact is, all these mobile hard drives are just plain slow compared to current desktop models. OTOH, there is *NOTHING* that the 100GB drive will handle that the 160GB won't handle and vice versa. Even the 120GB fits right in there in terms of performnace... Seriously, the 100GB isn't enough better than the 120GB to sacrifice the extra storage. The 160GB is the best option unless you only need 60GB of space, but honestly, who can live with 60GB? Just my standard set of software I need to install on my system eats up over 75GB after the OS and everything else. I routinely work with large video, images and 3D model/scene data. On my current MBP I typically only have about 40GB free, so a 120GB drive would have been pushing my limits. And no, the external drive isn't always an option when I often have to be rather mobile with the thing. But I do try to keep an external 360GB 7200rpm FW drive in the notebook bag for when I can make use of it.

I awake to sweet news today. My MBP has shipped.

If you live in the US it's US "Printed and electronic documentation". I think the "85W MagSafe Power Adapter, AC wall plug, and power cord" could be considered part of it as well.

I haven't been following this thread too closely since the update was announced, but reading over the few most recent posts makes me wonder: how many grumblers before the update that caved and bought a Dell (or other) C2D do you think cancelled or returned their order when Apple made the announcement? Just a thought for a Sunday afternoon. :D

Tired of checking my ship page. The thing will get here whet it gets here. I dont think i can ever be as excited as i was when i got my first mac (12" PB) back in 04.

Checking ship times every ten mins, making excuses to go use the loo when in fact i was rushing to the nearest internet terminal to check my status. SKIPPING school for two days from the day the machine arrived so i could play with it.

Now that was excitement!
