Apple Releases Final Cut Pro and Logic Pro for iPad

Just watched The Verge video. You can’t edit from external drives 😂🤣😂. What is this app??? Luckily we have Resolve (which of course can edit from external drives).

Not ideal/as fast but won't saving to 'external' cloud storage such as Dropbox get over that hurdle, surely? Can't you also upload projects from the Mac desktop versions to Dropbox, for example, and edit them on iPad & vice versa?

(I don't have FCP/Logic Pro on my Macs so don't know the answer to this)

Couldn't you just export it to a thumbdrive?

You'd also get to organize all your files physically. One for photos, one for music, one for miscellanous. The necessary trinity of storage. It costs less than half as much money, too.

(Of course, you could just nix the thumbdrives and get a big SSD instead.)

I’m pretty sure you have to have some kind of local storage to run videos and audio. Trying to edit video that’s in the cloud would be a nightmare.
 
This is WAY out of left field.

Apple is holding off from having external drives on FCP as iPadOS 17 includes it as well as files app enhancements.

The leaks of iPadOS 17 are absolutely massive. From clamshell mode to dual Audio to external webcams.

Apple is not stupid. They know LumaFusion and DaVinci Resolve has it. They have something MASSIVE planned for WWDC. Watch.

Leaks of iPadOS 17 are massive? can you post some links. I haven't seen many leaks and were lead to believe that iPadOS along with iOS 17 will be more of a refinement because Apple put most of their resources into the VR headset and it's software. Also clamshell mode what is that?

I'm VERY interested in what Apple will do with iPadOS 17 since im looking to buy a new iPad Pro after selling my Samsung Tab S8 Ultra.

It took them only 13 years...

I always had high hopes for the iPad, I have always gone for the Pros with the expectation that one day I could do serious work on it, but it has never happened. I have largely moved from Final Cut Pro to other software, so sadly this is too late for me.

And I would like to join the "Not Pleased with Apple for Making Logic Pro for iPad a Subscription" crowd! I received the email today and installed it on my iPad. As an experienced Logic Pro user and iPad user, I caught on quickly how to use it. It is going to be very useful to me but paying monthly or every year for the rest of my life makes me wonder if is it worth it. After a certain amount of subscription renewals, subscribers should then own it.

So we get a craptacular flat icon for Final Cut and nice 3D disc for Logic that doesn’t fit in the iOS icon circle template whatsoever. Who approves this stuff!?

MacRumors has the article (but I can’t seem to find it.

Essentially, the leaker was found to be telling the truth about FCP and other information as both the leaker and leaker’s sister were arrested specifically because of the leak.

Ah ok, I think I remember that guy, wasn't he the one who leaked the info about the Dynamic Island before anyone else? I'm glad Apple are going to be adding more features to iPadOS 17, as I said im on the verge of buying a new iPad Pro M2, in fact I currently have it in my basket on Apple's website.

Oh ok that sounds like a cool feature. Apple must have a busy WWDC keynote to have announced Final Cut Pro and Logic Pro in a separate video before WWDC. That would have been a killer announcement as part of iPadOS 17.
 
Will this inspire more Pro apps to finally come to iPadOS? With the full external monitor support, Apple Silicon, and decent RAM, I could see people opting for an all in one type experience with the iPad Pro. I love mine, but have my eyes on the 15” MacBook Air.

That's a bummer then. I hadn't seen that limitation. People need to put in a feature request to Apple and get that added. I'd be surprised if Apple doesn't add it within the next year.

The workaround is copying just the files you need from the drive and then exporting and clearing files off. That assumes enough space to do that and is an inelegant workflow but it should be possible.

maybe, i wouldnt be too sure tbh, but maybe they'll add it

talk about a workaround, how about people who already paid 1500 bucks for a 128gb ipad ?
