Hmm, are people leaving the case open with phone and AirPods both plugged in? Can't seem to get it to trigger an update :(

Put both earbuds in the case, close the lid, and put on the charger. Leave it be for a while, or just let it charge to full, then look in your Settings and you should see that you've got the new firmware. That's what I did and it worked.

Yikes, automatically updating? Hope there's not a bulk brick firmware update or force users next year to require iOS 14 to listen to them.

I DON'T know for sure, it is just odd that if that was the case they would have announced those enhancements during the release if they were that close to the release time and IF that was the case why just just hold off for two weeks? That is great if it is just to "fine tune" things for how long have the AirPods been out for, and yes a A LOT of people have been using them since the release but that is a pretty quick turn around time for a "fine tune".

I find it funny all the negative comments to my "not ready" post. I don't know if people are just being defensive because it is a Apple product and this is Apple forum However I have the new Airpods and really like them I just just pointing out that it seems REALLY soon for a "patch".

I don’t think it’s necessarily justApple fanboys who are reacting negatively. You made a pretty broad statement from a position where you can’t know the background (unless you are one of the engineers who work in Apple's audio group).

There are many plausible reasons for an update (audio enhancements, control tweaking, bug reporting capabilities,etc...) that are not necessarily bug fixes. And even if they were bug fixes, all or in part, that doesn’t mean the product wasn’t ready. Continuous improvement is a staple of Six Sigma and other quality control regimes. There is always room to improve a product. One of the wonderful things about software is that you don’t have to wait for a new product iteration to roll out those improvements.

Well, the original comment simply pointed out that the product wasn't ready and that the firmware update was somehow actual proof, which is clearly not the case given that it has worked just fine for most people prior to this firmware update (meaning it was ready) and the firmware update certainly doesn't prove anything one way or another. Somehow then stretching something fairly straightforward into some sort of "defensiveness" commentary, kind of throws it off even more.

Anyone experiencing improvement to microphone quality? (people hearing you)
Not sure about after the update but before the update the background noise transmitted to the other party when on a phone call was so loud that it was uncomfortable for the other person. Doing things like washing dishes made for a ton of background noise.

Noticed an increase in volume on mine with the new firmware. It was kind of quiet previously even when almost at 100% volume compared to the 1st gen AirPods.

The update happened while in the case and plugged/charging on mine.

Years of using earplugs flying helocoptors and such, I've found simply wetting the ear canal with one of your moist fingers that you've popped in your mouth then inserting the Pros results in them staying and fitting better. Try it...

Only problem with that is that it looks kinda weird when there are people around...

I put my case on a Qi charger and it updated like 1 minute later.

hoping it fixes an issue I was experiencing where the case would lose charge without usage.

This has been my biggest issue - by the end of the day, the case is down to 5-10% while my prior AirPods case would still be at 70-80%

I wear my AP Pros when walking in the mall. I've noticed sometimes when I walk by certain stores, it's almost like there is some sort of interference and humming sound. I use the noise cancelling mode. Any ideas why? Could it be a WiFi network, some sort of bluetooth interference or florescent lighting?

It’s probably a signal interference from other Bluetooth devices, it has nothing to do with the Wi-Fi. When you’re transmitting anything via air-wave signal with Bluetooth, there’s bound to be some interruptions or distortion.

Might also be Bluetooth beacons in those stores. The ones that tell them you’re there, even if you don’t tell them you’re there.

had a bit of a problem after the update... only one channel (right) was working. ended up having to reset the airpods and rebooted the phone for good measure and then all was well.

Mine updated over night at some point it seems.

Had to unpair and re-pair, right bud stopped working. All fine now.

Had almost zero problems with them since launch. That red exclamation mark appeared a few times but theyve always charged properly.

Probably the air con and/or fans creating high frequency waves that's harder to filter out using ANC.

I’ve had this issue occur also. The simple and quick solution I found was just placing the malfunctioning AirPod back in it’s charging case for a moment. Problem solved.

I’m really hoping this update fixes the ongoing 1 channel lost connection after big mint he case I’m facing

Agreed. With OG and Gen 2 I had to keep them on 75% to just barely overcome NYC streets and commuting.

The new Pro’s with or without ANC I can keep them just over 50% volume and hear just fine with plenty of upward range if I should need it.

Interesting note, just yesterday I had ANC on and I was walking near the commuter train I just exited and the locomotive made a real loud noise. I could actually hear the AirPod adjust the ANC to squash (as best as possible) the noise coming in. Interesting experience.

this is what I’ve been experiencing as well WHEN mine work. Something I’m liking better over the XM3’s which I didn’t think I’d enjoy anything better

Suggestion: Hoping somehow that one of the button functions will eventually have volume controls kinda like the Power Beats Pro.

I’ve always incisiones these pros would have a metallic outer coating for capacitive touch to slide up or down for volume.

still ... this can be down with the current design:

Click+Click n hold on R to raise volume, on L to lower volume (the trigger would have to be done semi quicker than forwarding a track)

Man! Man you’re really scaring me and putting me in a low mood about this update I’m pending to over over my sleep tonight. :(

Since the update when I play music through Apples music app it stops playing any sound but the song is continuing, only fix is to switch to iPhones speaker and back to headphones. Doesn't affect other music apps though.

Huh. Mine have the update, but I haven't had them plugged in for 24 hours. I wonder if they update even when not plugged in and over 50 percent juice???

It’s not any louder just compared 2 lots one with new firmware and one without and it’s same still lower than AirPods 2, it’s a placebo I’m afraid
