Why are people complaining about ‘yet another device to update’??

This is what makes products like the Airpods great - you get more features added + a boost in performance thanks to the constant attention Apple gives the device. You pay for these improvements up front with the higher cost.

To check the firmware of your AirPods Pro, follow these steps:

(With the Airpods paired to the device).

Could totally be a placebo but music sounds better now? I'm sensing a warmer less muffled quality to the songs I've been listening to. Very likely a placebo though :) Anyone else notice anything?

Where do you even check to see the firmware build number?

Settings->General->About, near the bottom. But you'll have to open the case nearby, and then dismiss the charge status panel on the phone (swipe down, or maybe push home on phones that have a home button). It will then show a line with the name of your AirPods or AirPods Pro, and you can tap that to get more details, including Manufacturer, Model Number, Serial Number, Firmware Version, and Hardware Version. Mine haven't updated yet. In general, I think they're likeliest to update if they're in the case, plugged into a charger, and near the phone they were first paired with. But there may be some time like that before they update; there's no known way to force it to happen immediately.

So you can’t force the update, it’s automatically forced?
Yes, it happens when the conditions are met (plugged in near paired iPhone), but not immediately. The iPhone may well insert a short random delay, or otherwise try to spread the load on the servers. Someone would have to be monitoring their WiFi and/or a jailbroken iPhone to catch the iPhone downloading the update, which would not necessarily get installed into the AirPods until the conditions were met.

Update: mine just did it, after sitting maybe 15-20 minutes plugged in a foot from the iPhone (also plugged in). I seem to recall people saying it tended to take at least that long before it got done.

How do you know it even addressed a bug? Perhaps it delivers enhancements? Or fine tunes things based on the accumulated user data since release.

I DON'T know for sure, it is just odd that if that was the case they would have announced those enhancements during the release if they were that close to the release time and IF that was the case why just just hold off for two weeks? That is great if it is just to "fine tune" things for how long have the AirPods been out for, and yes a A LOT of people have been using them since the release but that is a pretty quick turn around time for a "fine tune".

I find it funny all the negative comments to my "not ready" post. I don't know if people are just being defensive because it is a Apple product and this is Apple forum However I have the new Airpods and really like them I just just pointing out that it seems REALLY soon for a "patch".

That won't fix the very average sound quality and my sealing issue. Even the Pros are still falling. Returning them today.
Years of using earplugs flying helocoptors and such, I've found simply wetting the ear canal with one of your moist fingers that you've popped in your mouth then inserting the Pros results in them staying and fitting better. Try it...

There will be a day when we will download firmware updates for the toothbrush.
Toothbrush won't be too surprising. It's when they start doing OTA firmware updates to artificial organs that there'll be a few "surprising" situations. Imagine them bricking your artificial heart.

This fixed the red exclamation point flickering UI thing for me.
I only got the red exclamation point while they were updating. Other than that they've been fabulous.

Suggestion: Hoping somehow that one of the button functions will eventually have volume controls kinda like the Power Beats Pro.

No software is ever finished.

Not true! Right after Version 2.0 of said widget is released put a folk in it, that code is done! I don't care what those devs/programmers say, back porting features to widget 1.0 is grounds for termination unless it will somehow help sell more of widget 2.0.

Until a company like Apple sells thousands of units of any one particular product to people in different environments, they will never get a true “real world” workup of any of their products.

I‘m going to say Apple actually has some idea of potential issues they would release an update for well before the product starts to ship. Once customer/user feedback starts to come in, then they tweek accordingly.

Doesn’t seem odd whatsoever.

Probably a compete placebo but it feels like mine are a bit louder at 2/3rds volume after the update.

Hmm, are people leaving the case open with phone and AirPods both plugged in? Can't seem to get it to trigger an update :(

Not at all. I love my ears. Cause I'm a musician. Not many people have the chance of having musician ears. For their shape, I guess I have to use foam tips, or to get over ear headphones
Over ear headphones are an entirely different product. You should have both (like me).

Haven’t had that problem with mine.

To be fair it was only 1 time when I went to the barbershop and I had to throw them in my jacket pocket. Put them back in the case when I was done, but when I got home there was lint on both that was hard to get off.

No biggie.

I put my case on a Qi charger and it updated like 1 minute later.

hoping it fixes an issue I was experiencing where the case would lose charge without usage.

Has anyone with iOS 13.3 beta 2 been able to get the update? My AirPods Pro won’t get the update pushed to it.. 🤷🏼‍♂️
