I love how part of the directions from apples official website says

"Hold down the power button until the power indicator light flashes, then release it. A long tone will be heard, then a gray screen with an Apple logo appears. There is a progress bar under the logo. As the progress bar moves, your firmware is being updated."

Really, because last time I checked my aluminum imac didn't have a power indicator light.

I think it said "until the power indicator light flashes OR a long tone is heard"
the keyword being "OR"

Hopefully it fixes the "display never wakes from sleep even though the computer itself does" problem I'm having with my MBP. I've been stuck tethered to my ACD since the last update (either graphics update or firmware, not 100% sure which) broke it.

Agreed!!! I'm in the same situation. Updates have caused more problems than they've fixed for me

I missed the msg that told how to confirm you now have the new firmware update installed. Can someone point me to the place to confirm? Thanks!

I can confirm that, after this update, my Macbook Pro works in clamshell mode again :D

What am I missing here? My MacBookPro is three weeks old, yet--according to the download--"This computer does not need this update." I was hoping that the update would address the drop-out of my wireless connection both on the MBP and my two-year-old desktop. [Which just ***** happened as I was about to send this. Arrrgh!!!]

Also, for those looking, here are the update links: http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/firmware_hardware/

Any MBP SR 2.2 users, did you happen to catch what your firmware was before your software update successfully got the new one for you?

Here's mine - without the update. For some reason it has not yet shown up in software update... and I do have a SantaRosa MBP...

Hardware Overview:

Model Name: MacBook Pro
Model Identifier: MacBookPro3,1
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
Processor Speed: 2.2 GHz
Number Of Processors: 1
Total Number Of Cores: 2
L2 Cache: 4 MB
Memory: 2 GB
Bus Speed: 800 MHz
Boot ROM Version: MBP31.0070.B05
SMC Version: 1.16f10
Serial Number: W87442*****

I'm really hoping that this update will fix the not waking properly from sleep issue that I (and tonnes of others) have been having...

It sounds crazy...

mine did this too. To the point where I finally convinced Apple to send me a brand new MBP. Within 4 hours the damn thing did it again. Somehow, in my attempt to find an answer online I stumbled upon the fix, at least for me.

If you have iStat running, disable the "Network" portion.

Done. That is ALL I did and the problem has happened 2x in the last 2months as opposed to at least 2x/day.

Hope it works for you. If you have iStat, it is worth a try.

Good luck!

testing...

Even though my sig says I dont have issues with my MBA, it started having the lengthy battery charging. At 80% it would tack on an additional two minutes, bringing the overall necessary charge time to 6.5 hours.

So far, im at 65% and the time say 1 hr remaining. THAT is very promising. But i'll update this post when it hits that 80% mark.

cz

[UPDATE]: It still adds two hours to the charge time.

That's exactly what mine is, and that's the same Boot ROM that it shipped with. Still can't get it to show up in software update or get the standalone installer to work.

I'm getting really tired of having to shut down and unplug my external monitor, then plug it back in upon startup. That, plus 10.5.2 and the graphics update made it boot up slower, and actually weakend its graphic capabilities. Before that update i could view 1080p trailers from apple's site just fine (that's what the external monitor is), now they all stutter.

I'm a bit irked that other MBP 2.2 SR users with the older Boot Rom can update and fix these sorts of issues, but we can't.

Do we need to keep the firmware update files?

Both updates worked flawlessly on my Imac. However, both firmware files also planted themselves in my Utilities folder. Do I need to keep them?

Really bad iMac EFI Firmware Update 1.3!

This iMac EFI Firmware Update 1.3 is a really bad one! To all iMac late 2007 users: DO NOT INSTALL IT! Trust me. There is no way to restore the old EFI firmware after a successful upgrade.

The following problems will appear after upgrade:

1. The fan inside the iMac will spin all the time!

2. The GUI performance in Leopard will be dropped down a lot. Even programs with simple GUIs, for example disk utility will stutter if you resize the window.

3. There appear lags when you do keyboard input or file accesses. I never seen such lags before the update.

Please, does anybody know how I can restore the 1.2 EFI on my iMac ?? The restoration CD 1.6 does not work.

The fans never stop, period unless you power the machine off. They just spin slower at idle or no load situations. This applies to any machine with sleeve bearing or ball bearing fans.

I have not experienced anything 'new' here.

Neither one of these are showing for me.

You can't, afaik.

Arg, my keyboard works great after the update (like always) but now my brightness buttons don't work at all with my Macbook. Anyone else have this problem or know how to fix it?

Please, please don't kill a Mac noob for a stupid question, but I downloaded the update through this link and it told me "this computer does not need this update." I have a 2.2 MBP SR less than a year old. Um... so I'm done?

If it's not showing up then the update does not apply to your mac.

Chill man. Sounds like you are experiencing the placebo effect.

Everything is golden on my end and I am also using an iMac.

Darn it

This isn't good - after the update my 3,1 MBP is running significantly hotter than before and there is no process consuming CPU according to activity monitor. Plus the keyboard now misses a key press or two occasionally. Grrr
