I believe the reason iMessages in the cloud is not released are legal issues. Currently Apple stores nothing. If they start storing in the cloud to facilitate this it would be something courts could order Apple to turn over data because they would have it.

I’m not sure I see the differences between storing messages or entire iCloud backup?

FIX THE BATTERY DRAIN!!!! Have a 6s and drains the battery in about 5 hours. Jumps 20-30% in a couple of hours. Before 11.0.3 I used to leave work after 8 hours and still be around 90 percent. Tried erasing all settings and restoring and no change. Just tried erasing and setting up as new iPhone and still has issue. So it's either hardware or software, I would lean more towards software as it started after 11.0.3 and under Battery it says Safari is using 84% of the battery life when Safari is closed. Never had battery issues when everyone else is complaining, but got me this time around!

Ever since updating to IOS 11.2 Beta 1 I'm getting "Turn on Bluetooth to Allow App Store to connect to accessories" when opening the App Store. Anyone know how to bypass this without actually having to turn on Bluetooth to get around this? Just started in 11.2 Beta...

Cashxx: I've updated to 11.2 and I have the Iphone 8 Plus, started day with full charge and it's 5:25pm and I'm at 72%. I have alot of things turned off though, background app refresh, push email data, screen brightness less than half...

these 11.x updates should really be 11.0.x

give us apple pay in iMessage to make it 11.1, new emojis shouldn't count.
Why do you think Apple owes you a new feature you’ve never even used be present in 11.1?

Every beta, week after week, someone complains about Apple Pay Cash. Why? Apple said it was coming in a later version of iOS 11. That could be next April with 11.3.

Apple will roll it out when it’s ready. It’s not late, and you’re not entitled to it now. Complaining won’t bring it any sooner.

Apple does not owe me any features.
11.3 in april hahaha, iOS 11 has been out for 43 days and we are on 11.2. You are proving my point. They are quick to name 11.X updates when they should really be 11.0.X. There has been nothing to justify a 11.X update. This should be reserved for larger updates then bug fixes and new emojis.

No, we are on 11.1 after 43 days. 11.1 fixes the biggest security vulnerability ever discovered in WiFi, the WPA2 KRACK exploit. Apple wants the security patch to be installed, and the best way to do that is to have the latest Unicode emoji included in the update.

wrt naming the release 11.1 vs 11.0.4, Apple apparently feels they’ve made enough progress in stability and optimization for this to warrant a full dot release.

You can certainly have a contrary opinion, but don’t be surprised if people tell you you’re wrong. All opinions aren't right. Your “point” is spurious and unproven.

funny when i go to settings > general > about - mine says 11.2
WPA2 Krack was a bug fix no matter how bad the exploit was. I agree that they seem to think they have made enough progress to call it what they have but this OS is NO WHERE near where a 11.2 should be. iOS 11 is a mess. iOS 10 ended with 10.3.3. Apple is on pace to finish iOS 11 at 11.8.5

My point is neither spurious nor unproven. I would be surprised if I am being told I am wrong by anyone. I cannot be wrong because it is my opinion that apple should not be up to 11.2 at this time.

Can someone explain how a ridiculous bug like this can be introduced in a supposedly bug-fix release? Or why iOS 11 took such a backwards step initially that they’re still trying to recover.

Isn’t the point of software updates to fix and improve not regress?

11.1 is the current release version. You’re actually running a beta. Who knows, it may not be final for a month or two.

You say “They are quick to name 11.X updates when they should really be 11.0.X. There has been nothing to justify a 11.X update.”

Wrong. iPhone X is being released in 2 days, and support for a new model alone justifies the 11.1 numbering. You think they should release iPhone X with 11.0.4?

Whoever told you opinions can’t be wrong? If I say the earth is flat, am I right because that’s my opinion? I say you’re wrong, and Apple does too. But you’re entitled to hold a wrong opinion.

the earth being flat is not an opinion.

How about a turn off all iOS animations setting for older iPhones? :)
Absolutely not. The problem wasn't having animations, the problem with the calculator was losing taps on buttons when the animations were running. Somehow Apple didn't manage to do this.

Nah, I mean, how is that any different from Contacts, Calendar, Notes, and iCloud EMAIL that they already do store? Why would Messages considered so much more precious?

Not to mention, Message archives are currently part of the iCloud backup, anyway. Restoring from an iCloud backup brings them back onto a new device. So your logic seems flawed to me.
[doublepost=1509567181][/doublepost]

I heard it worked fine; beta testers I know who were using it without any issue were wondering why it was removed. I'm guessing not everyone had the same experience. However "Messages in the Cloud" for proper syncing between devices is different from a "web front-end for Messages in the Cloud, so it can be accessed via PC." I'm doubtful we'll ever see the latter (even though I'd love to see it!)
You heard wrong. It was exceptionally fragmented across my iPhone, iPad and MacBook. It either synced immediately, or days later, and sometimes resent the same message five times over the course of a few hours. Again, there was a reason it was removed early on in the beta cycle, and I doubt legality had anything to do with it. Call it the curse of .me, but for some reason Apple has had a heck of a time rolling out new cloud services since day one, and iCloud iMessages were no exception. Maybe they’ll get it nailed down by iOS 12.

Why is it that every dot release has to have new features? Why is not enough that the release makes your device work faster and better? Big releases aren’t always about adding things but about having to make so many changes to make the OS faster or more efficient that it is classed as a large release. I would rather them get everything they have running now work at its best than roll out another feature that is half finished.

It is a little frustrating at the moment with a number of features that took up time during their recent keynotes still not launched. e.g. iCloud Messages, Apple Pay Cash, Amazon Prime TV App, TV App for UK etc.. I hope most of this can be introduced soon as its getting on to being half way through a software cycle already.

If you’re getting an iPhone X on Friday, don’t update to this beta. I just checked the public beta XML on Apple‘s servers and the iPhone X identifiers (iPhone10,3 and iPhone10,6) can’t be found in there. There also isn’t any sign of iPhone X support for the developer beta, neither in the XML nor in the restore images listed in the Apple Developer portal.

So, if you update to iOS 11.2 beta, be aware that iPhone X support might not be added until beta 2. If your old iPhone is running iOS 11.2, you might not be able to restore that backup to iOS 11.1 on iPhone X.

Crap mine updated and I hadn’t done a backup yet that I was gonna use for my iPhone X tomorrow. This royally sucks !
