With an update so soon, it sounds like they'll be releasing updates on a schedule similar to iOS (and starting with 9.0 would further this speculation). That's a great sign! And I'm sure one of the the updates – perhaps tvOS 10 – will include direct updates instead of requiring it to be done through a computer.

This surprised me, as the existing ATV did this via WiFi for a long period.

Unless Apple TV iOS future releases can be installed via wifi i'll never, ever get a new Apple TV.

There is an update software option in the settings. Consumer level updates will almost certainly be done OTA.

There's so much potential in tvOS. The UI is near perfect in the way that it feels like you're physically controlling the elements on the screen. In that respect, they did finally crack the problem of controlling a screen several feet away from you that you can't touch directly.

There are some instances where this illusion falls away. For example, when dragging down the info tab from the top or a Siri dialogue from the bottom, swiping up/down either brings the tab out or hides it. There's no in between. It should be possible to slightly pull it up/down to peek at something then drop it back by swiping in the other direction or letting go.

Momentum scrolling also doesn't work as expected. Shooting a swipe should give it momentum to scroll faster but there seems to be a limit on how fast you can throw a scroll. It doesn't feel natural like it does on iOS.

I'd also like Siri to be able to answer the same questions that it answers on iOS and to control HomeKit appliances which I was surprised that it doesn't. On that note, being unable to control Music via Siri is a glaring hole that makes it obvious that tvOS wasn't finished when they released it.

These are 1.1 upgrades and Apple shouldn't wait until 2.0 to make them.

I can't believe they are not going to update the ATV 3 to have Apple Music. Really? The device they still sell in store new doesn't support Apple Music? I also can't believe they are having the UI's look completely different between the new and the old.

Hi i have the previous generation apple tv with latest firmware 7.2 Will apple release update for this model? When?

thank you

I'm hoping for the following:

Categories in App Store
HomeKit support
Siri for Music
Picture-in-Picture
Remote app update

Otherwise this is fantastic!

Apple is so bizarre sometimes. 9.1? Really? Why not just call it TVOSX? Or NeXTV? NewtonVision 1.0? As long as we're ditching normal naming conventions and platform hopping...

What's next? iOSiPad v1.0 and iOSiPhone v1.0?

I believe you've written the stupidest thing I've read all day. Congratulations.

(.. and to clarify, tvOS is a derivative of iOS 9, but still different enough to justify a different naming scheme, so yes, it makes sense.)

Why would anyone spend twice, if not three times more than its previous version, for a device that practically does very little that is different? I can't believe Apple spent years working on this device and this was the best it could come up with.. A new chip, but hardly any different functionality.

Apple better be careful or its going to make that article above come true. They need to start coming out with products that surprise people again.. And get away from a singular focus, it seems, of coming out with products solely focused on boosting revenue to make investors happy. I think I read somewhere where Tim Cook talked about China soon being the most important region in the world when it comes to iPhone for Apple.. This company is becoming too profit driven, too much focus is being placed on beating wall street expectations, too much of the soul of the company is being sucked out by focusing on the financials and not the soul of the business. All my opinion anyways. I can't wait until Apple raises the price of iPhone, because that's almost certainly going to be coming soon.

I believe you can adjust the scrolling speed in settings, not sure if that will help you or not.
