I would not recommend updating directly via direct download. Failed twice on iPad and once on iPhone and not my iPhone is messed up. Trying to restore. But everything is wiped and I will try and see if I can fix this mess. OTA is a lot better. Probably the reason for no OTA. Buggy install that messed things up. Be patient. Sad that mine iPhone is screwed up. Hopefully I can fix it.

Sorry you had problems. I hope you are able to restore.

I just updated my iPhone 11 Pro Max via direct download and it went fine. But your situation does give someone something to think about. I guess that's why they always say to backup first.

I reinstalled the profile and after the reboot it immediately showed up. Could be coincidence with the timing, but that immediately triggered the download for me.

If beta 1 but 14.2 is out, it makes me wonder when 14.2 will be out for everyone (not as a beta).

Finally after 5 times I got it back from bricked to iOS 14. lol and now OTA is available. GREAT! lol.

Wow, not even 14.1, they are moving straight to 14.2! iOS 14 must be in really bad shape to skip 14.1, then!

Nah. Pretty clear to see what’s going on:

• COVID caused production delays on iPhone. So iPhone 12 was moved to October.
• they didn’t want to also delay the Watch and iPad, though. Nor did they want to ship them with 13.7. So 14.0 got finished.
• iPhone 12 (edit: and probably iPad Air!) will launch with 14.1.
• 14.1 may or may not become available on other devices. I’m guessing no, because no beta.
• 14.2 comes out around November/December.

This says nothing about quality, really. It just says that they’re reducing the needless coupling of software and hardware release.

14.1 likely for new HDW and then 14.2 brings the forks together???

Yeah, and the new iPad as well. 14.1 is a fork and 14.2 is happy and funny one for all...
