I...you're trolling, right?

Are any of you even reading the articles or reviews before posting here?

It's been said dozens of times already, but I'll say it again for you. Only this time in bold.

Gatekeeper has three, 3, as in 1, 2, 3, settings. One of the settings completely turns it off, meaning you can install whatever the hell you want.

Now, if Mr. Newbie didn't read the first time, he surely won't understand that whole bold-lettering thing. :D

Hmmm....

OSX 10.1 is known as "Puma."

OSX 10.8 will be known as "Mountain Lion."

According to Wikipedia:
"The cougar (Puma concolor), also known as puma, mountain lion, mountain cat, catamount or panther, depending on the region, is a mammal of the family Felidae, native to the Americas. This large, solitary cat has the greatest range of any large wild terrestrial mammal in the Western Hemisphere,[3] extending from Yukon in Canada to the southern Andes of South America. An adaptable, generalist species, the cougar is found in every major American habitat type. It is the second heaviest cat in the Western Hemisphere, after the jaguar. Although large, the cougar is most closely related to smaller felines and is closer genetically to the domestic cat than to true lions."

Damn, they just do whatever they want.

This "gatekeeper" aka Sandboxing could be a blessing in disguise.

Might mean less kernel panics due to software. If an app crashes it won't affect the kernel as much.

Uh ? Modern OS design 101 : Applications run in userspace do not affect the running kernel in kernel space. What you're saying has nothing to do with sandboxing at all.

Does anyone else feel that Airplay Mirroring is going the wrong way? That they'd rather be able to display content from their iPhone/iPad/iPod on their Mac than to display their Mac on a TV?

Again, I work in a large environment. We get computers daily. Once Apple release OSX 10.8, all computers will come shipped with it. We can't downgrade due to Licensing Agreements, which means no matter what I will always have new OS's to support at a moments notice. Imagine having to deal with that and manage 10.6 and 10.7. Its a tough job to do without a roadmap. Getting blindsided in the IT world sucks. Lots of money on the line for our clients. If I could just load 10.6.8+ on everything it wouldn't be a problem but, thats not possible.

Edit: NDA guys.

Sorry, I had a reading comprehension failure earlier.

I do understand this pain, although from the client side, as a developer who works in a primarily Windows Server based environment. Upgrading OS X is always a risk, since we use a lot of products from vendors that don't have immediate updates available, and IT often takes such a conservative approach applying patches that by the time support is added a new version of OS X is on its way.

Sigh. More iOS nonsense in OS X.

Yup, very good convergence.

I hear there is windows 8, fedora 16 ( very good), plethora of others Linux flavors for free, google crapware, etc.

Every one can choose, specialy if a person (such as yourself) does not like Mac mountain lion os... Free market, free choices.

Yay! Notes no longer clogging up my email, bring it!

You could always go into your Mail Preferences and turn off Notes being mixed in with your email. However, Notes still would appear in the sidebar. In Mountain Lion, it looks like it won't be in the sidebar either which is a welcome change.

From Daring Fireball:

The recurring theme: Apple is fighting against cruft — inconsistencies and oddities that have accumulated over the years, which made sense at one point but no longer

Really glad to see Apple doing this with Mountain Lion. These sorts of inconsistencies have always bugged me, and I also really appreciate the effort to consolidate apps between iOS and OS X.

Wow June will be nice!

Looks like with the "June" delay of the Ivy Bridge from intel we will see the totally redesigned MacBook Pro/Air line in June at the developers conference along with Mountain Lion 10.8 all at the same time!

For those of you on Snow Leopard 10.6 you will be two releases behind.

Tim Cook also said they are going to run a 12 month update cycle for Mac OS. This will drive people to buy (even cheaply) updates and more quickly obsolete hardware (at least to run the latest stuff plus to drive more sales) than how it has been on this platform in the past. Looks like Airplay for Mac only runs on the latest hardware....

Good Stuff!

My two cents: The iOS features they're adding to Mountain Lion are iCloud-heavy features. It only makes sense to add Notes, Reminders, etc. since there were other non-Apple apps (Evernote, Dropbox, etc.) with similar features that already had the ability sync across all devices. So long as we're not tethered to the Mac App Store exclusively (which seems to not be the case), I think this will be great. It's not like Finder is going anywhere. Let's all take a deep breath for now.

Now it's REALLY time for me to ditch my 2006 MBP.

What about the iPhone 5? Haha xD

Actually read the new article on the home page.

All Apps must now go through the App Store and be signed by Apple to run on Mac OS 10.8 Mountain Lion.

so for the official release we will have to go to system preferences, gatekeeper, turn off??:eek:

Potentially. I would hope Apple would take the middle option which is MAS and signed apps.

I haven't tested it yet, but some are noting that you can still install whatever you want. This just determines whether you get a warning essentially.
