Actually read the new article on the home page.

All Apps must now go through the App Store or be signed by Apple to run on Mac OS 10.8 Mountain Lion.

Fixed. Or you can turn any protection off in System Preferences --> Security --> General.

Well, I'm pretty much through with Macs. I may keep one around for iOS development, but I'll no longer use it as my main machine. Gatekeeper has killed any interest I have in Apple's desktop products. Shame as I do like the iPhone and iPad -- but those are the only reason why I'll even own any Mac at all going forward.

Are you ping tent ion at all?

Yes, are you paying attention to the choices gatekeeper gives you and other apple.is.evil bunch?

Looks like with the "June" delay of the Ivy Bridge from intel we will see the totally redesigned MacBook Pro/Air line in June at the developers conference along with Mountain Lion 10.8 all at the same time!

Or you could read the OP and see Apple is saying late summer, which is not the beginning/middle of June when WWDC is normally held. In Apple speak, late summer=September.

I...you're trolling, right?

Are any of you even reading the articles or reviews before posting here?

It's been said dozens of times already, but I'll say it again for you. Only this time in bold.

Gatekeeper has three, 3, as in 1, 2, 3, settings. One of the settings completely turns it off, meaning you can install whatever the hell you want.

Not to mention that, according to The Verge, you can still override the Gatekeeper settings by right-clicking an unsigned app and still run it.

No, that's not what it says. It says that's the default setting.

Also, notice there is now a Ctrl-click context menu feature to bypass the strict Gatekeeper setting on a per-app basis. That's a very friendly interface addition, not one that screams "We're locking down OS X!"

With that logic iOS must not be doing well either.

I redact my previous statement. It just seems weird to have yearly cycle for a full computer operating system. It seems like it would be a bit of a pain for certain apps to have to be re-written every year and go through all the beta testing and development on a yearly cycle to keep up with OS releases.

Does anyone else feel that Airplay Mirroring is going the wrong way? That they'd rather be able to display content from their iPhone/iPad/iPod on their Mac than to display their Mac on a TV?

Why would I want to stream from my iOs devices to my Mac? I can just hold them in front of my face. I like being able to stream to my TV, though.

Incorrect... "Anywhere: This choice uses the same set of rules as every previous version of Mac OS X. If an app isn’t known malware and you approve it, it opens."

Apple has been pushing app signing since Snow Leopard. If anything, they will remove the ability to install unsigned apps in a future release.

Which I personally think is fine, if they are providing developers with a simple and free mechanism for signing.

Can you please tell me how I sign binaries I built myself from the source given to me by an open source project ?

Mandatory app signing is wrong on so many levels for what is essentially software freedom.

Nice. (Thanks for posting the images and info too).

I was just saying in another thread how the consolidated address/search bar is one of the things where I prefer Chrome over Safari.

Also I think its about time they change up the appearance of the dock a little. Its been the same since leopard.

agreed, they called iOS 5 early Fall and it was in October so essentially your correct that apple thinks Sept is still summer, they should come north of Cali once in a while to see what summer really ends ;)

Very nice, though most of the features are for people who own new iOS devices. I have a 2nd Gen iPod Touch, and it's not compatible with iCloud, which means that it won't sync via USB with anything that uses iCloud (like iCal), which is very annoying.

I hope they also fix things like the horrible mess that is Mission Control, and allow us to customize gestures (such as reassigning the annoying 4-finger-unpinch gesture to show the desktop to something easier, like Four-finger down, which is now assigned to the pointless App-Exposé).

All in all, looks very interesting and polished compared to Lion's partial iOS integration. But then again, it won't do much unless you have the newest iPhone.

Really? Try releasing a product that doesn't allow Corp. users to login to there computers. In fact try releasing a Beta that does work and then release 10.7, 10.7.1, and 10.7.2 that doesn't allow it.

Reading comprehension here is so crappy. I don't go home and play WOW and fiddle around with Safari. I manage a huge corp. IT infrastructure. My needs are different from all of yours yet equally important. Try turning on the TV for the network I work for and remember all of that was produced on computers I manage.

Edit:

As I suspected most of the feedback posted on Apple Dev's site the last 2 years are being implemented. For example Mail Archive folders are now separate. Much cleaner looking and much easier to manage archives from one location if you have multiple mail boxes.

Seems you're one of those people that like bitching about the latest patch for Lion that broke server.

Never had an issue with Lion and AD in our business environment either. There have been some hiccups server side but eh, who doesn't have them? You're expecting/wanting too much. Take a breather and regroup.

I think you fail to forget that OSX is a consumer OS first and foremost, everything else is secondary.

and please apple, if you aren't going to improve multi monitor support in lion, at least let me use two full screen apps at once on both my monitors in ML.

Wow someone got their feelings hurt by my post! Awwwww :(

Considering I worked for Apple for 4 years and have been an Apple Infrastructure Engineer for the 5 years working for a major Media Conglomerate, and the only non Apple tech device I own is my EVO 4G I would say as a someone deeply tied to Apple I want nothing but the best. My livelihood depends on Apples success and when Apple pulls these OS stunts how do I explain to my boss whats happening? We have no roadmaps; we have nothing. So many people are armchair IT/CIO's but they have no clue what it is really like to manage 15,000+ computers that all need to be managed at a moments notice.

Doesn't work that way. Apple ships computers with a certain OS on it. That forces us to upgrade due to licensing agreements and OS build compatibility. Not all computers Apple ships are backwards compatible with the OS.

what the heck is an Apple Infrastructure Engineer?? does that make you a super genius?? ha ha :D I was an Apple genius for 2 years, now I teach and am also the School Technology manager, does that mean I can call myself an Apple Education Infrastructure Engineer as well, I do maintain all the computers in the school, Windows and Apple!

I don't agree at all with 10.5 being vista, Leopard was fine we tons of new features, sounds to me like you will never be satisfied with what they release

I'm glad to pay 29.00 for a bump in performance and new features, nothing wrong with that
