WHAT A DAMN DISAPPOINTMENT. that little list of updates in 10.5.1 dont even cover the other huge bugs that mine has on a mac pro, total joke
and all of the complaints about stacks and the menu bar and no option?? wtf??!
i downgraded to tiger so i could have a working and good system but didnt think it'd be for too long.i guess it will be
with the .1 release theres no way they will release another update anytime soon.
to repeat WHAT A JOKE leopard has turned out to be!!
i'd calm down if the $129 I wasted worked on my top of the line mac pro
and it doesnt.putting aside the asinine removal of dock hierarchal folders and simple options to reduce the ugly translucent menu bar,my system is still not usable.clean install and all
my x1900 high end graphics card puts lines all over the screen in leopard,if you think its just me and i'm blowing it out of proportion just look at apple discussions for samples. that and giant yellow and purple shapes that appear all over the screen at random.tiger never did this and hasnt done it since i went back so it is NOT a hardware issue.and no it is not fixed in 10.5.1,i just tried.
so a huge issue like this is just ignored and passed over by :apple: even though it is affecting thousands of mac pro high end customers majorily?! thats not what i'd call an update that should have been never needed

and back to the missing aka REMOVED 'enhanced' features in leopard like the stacks, menu bar, view options staying set and being stable, and a thousand other things ---- yes i am mad as hell at that. even the stacks feature that they demoed to the world in the public WWDC video showed them working MUCH differently.so much differently that it is another feature entirely. leopard is so half-as@ it isnt even funny so yes i have the right to be mad

My Mac Pro has run like a dream ever since I upgraded to Leopard 2weeks ago. I use CS3, Mail, Safari, Stacks daily without one problem.

Update installed fine.

no new stack Icons... but you can use this. It's a very good idea. It gives you what looks like bins for your stacks i.e. application bin or download bin but still shows you what's inside that bin.

http://t.ecksdee.org/post/19001860

Just download the icons and move them into the specific stack. They've been modified using the touch command to always be on top.

Enjoy,

HHM

I use these. Love 'em.

great idea, and great icons... unfortunately the download limit seems to be exceeded... do you know an alternative link?

I am wondering if you went out to logitech's web site and downloaded the current driver. I have the S530 and I'm not having those issues (on a mac-mini). I did get the bluescreen on the upgrade to Leopard, but resolved that.

All in all, I am pleased with Apple in releasing this so quickly. Everything is running well for me so far.

Still isn't fixed. My logitech mouse still refuses to work if it's plugged in when I put my MBP to sleep. Ah well, here's hoping for 10.5.2. :)

Seems that the lack of an Internet Connection is just a very small number of people then. I'll be contacting Support tomorrow.

My Internet connection on the mac was just fine before I updated.

Now it's ballsed up.

Anyone?

Are you plugged into a router or direct to a modem? Are you getting a valid IP address? Can you ping anything by domain name or by IP address? If you are using a router and have other devices on the network can they browse the internet? Can you ping those devices?

Get your X1900 Replaced!

I hate to tell you this dude, but you need a new video card! I'm betting you have one of the first Mac Pros with a rev1 X1900. If you have Applecare, call Apple and get your video card replaced. Trust me! I had those exact same glitches. After having Apple replace my X1900, they are gone! I have been monitoring a HUGE discussion at Apple about this here:

http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1195969

The reason your faulty X1900 is more apparent in Leopard than it was in Tiger is due to the fact that the entire OS interface (eye-candy) relies on the GPU and pushes it harder than Tiger did. Basically poorly designed cooling systems on the card is causing the video RAM to get toasted. This is more of an ATI issue than an Apple one.

i'd calm down if the $129 I wasted worked on my top of the line mac pro

I think the people who are reporting "Snappyness" are reporting this because since the update forces you to re-boot ....this is the first time they have re-booted in a while.
Haha!

I have wondered about people who leave their Macs on for weeks/months at a time, and I wonder - why?

Yes some people are running servers, but there just seems to be almost an obsession with not wanting to reboot their Mac.

Yeah, I reboot mine regularly...keeps everything "SNAPPY" :p

mmmmm nope. MBP CD 2.16

but I don't play COD 2 any more. I installed COD 4 on my boot camp partition....WOOOW WEEEEEE it's bad ass!!!!!

hmm
how big of a partition did you make? :D

EDIT OMFG. I installed the update and COD2 isn't choppy anymore!!!!

I have the same IP address as I have always had... I am using the XP PC now to type this, which connects no problem and Both are connected wirelessly to a router, as well as a G4 iBook (works as well).

Haven't tried pinging anything as I've never had to do it so I do not know how.

Repairing permissions was the first thing I checked and sadly it's still scr*wed. It hangs on "estimated time: less than 1 minute" fffoorrreeeeevvvveeeeerrrr...

I get a lot of warning messages as well, which I've not seen before, not sure if I should be worried or not.

Well you are not alone, I'm getting the same 9 SUID warnings...

Everyone needs to stop complaining about Leopard supposedly being released too early. Every company, Microsoft, Apple, etc. all do it. I have had hardly any issues with 10.5.0 or 10.5.1. My only issue is Disk Utility and permissions repair, but that isn't a huge issue. It still does what it is supposed to do and will get better in time with future updates.
People keep comparing Leopard to Tiger. Does anyone actually remember 10.4.0 (or 10.0, 10.2.0 or 10.3.0 for that matter)?? Personally, I thought that 10.4.0 was much less stable than 10.5.0. Tiger didn't get into it's prime until around 10.4.3+. And you guys have to give Apple credit here. They are having to compile a pretty much universal OS that works on both PPC and Intel.. that's no easy task. Tiger's 10.4.0 debut was only for PPC only, and then they had to port and separate them at around something like 10.4.6(?) for Intel processors. Leopard is different, it is totally universal, it has to be able to run both, which requires more code and will take longer to update and debug, but they are getting faster and more proficient at it. Give them time. A lot of the stuff people are complaining about (driver issues etc.) are not directly put out by Apple. They are often made by other companies (ex: Nvidia, ATI etc.) with Apple input. Give it time. If people are so unhappy with Leopard, then go back to Tiger until 10.5.3+. No one made you upgrade. I for one am very happy with Leopard. I think it is the best OS they have released yet. Like someone posted before, not all of their testers will be able to test the OS under the way we each uniquely use it. That's why Leopard asks you to submit bug reports when something happens, so that the OS X team can examine what happened and what caused it. If it's quirky behavior, submit a bug report manually through apple's website. Just give Apple time, they are busy at work on improvements and aren't just sitting on their duffs saying "oh well, sucks to be you".

My CD MBP was very slow to complete, it took at least 5 minutes.

The mini only took a minute or so without any fuss

Confused here too. I ran this on my mini 1.83 with 2GB of memory. The verify took about 5 minutes and showed the problems seen elsewhere in this thread. So I ran the fix and it took about 5 minutes also, reported the same problems and said it couldn't fix them.

Maybe I will try later with nothing running.

Downloaded & installed the update. Seems okay except that disk permissions repair is taking forever. And I'm running on a 2.2 GHz MBP
Why are so many people on this thread talking about repairing their permissions?

It's almost never necessary AFAIK and should only really come up if you have a problem. If your hard drive is slow or programs aren't working, then repairing the permissions is definitely something to try, but in the normal course of using the computer, defrag, permissions, and most everything in that category of stuff can be safely ignored for the most part.

This isn't Windows people. :)

No need to constantly "manage" the hard drive.

Disk Utility -> Repair Permissions issues after 10.5.1 update

FYI, two MBP's, that were upgraded from 10.4.10 to 10.5, and now to 10.5.1 are showing warnings in Disk Utility when repairing permissions.

Not an isolated issue. You may experience this as well, so heads up.

Perhaps the meta-data for these files didn't get properly updated so that Disk Utility would understand that these were changed by the update rather than some other means. Or perhaps these were supposed to get updated and didn't.

I'm calling Apple Care to report it and see if we can't get clarity.

Permissions repair complete

Active Directory still does not work, but it's gotten better. The Directory Utility app doesn't crash when I try to load it, and it let me unbind the machine from AD through the GUI. Once it was unbound, my Mobile account works normally, but it goes back to failure upon rebinding to AD. My guess is that AD user authentication is still broken.

At least I don't have to pull the network cable just to login to my account anymore.

Updated to 10.5.1 and all seems fine so far; DU gives more feedback on repair permissions, even though it still takes a fairly long time to finish...all in all, a minor and irrelevant issue.

My only concern still remains with TM and the random freezes caused by I/O timeout or disk underrun issues (on my LaCie USB Porsche external)...I will be reactivating it now to see if all is OK.

Everything else has been pretty much flawless with Leopard...so far, so good.

i am so mad this time around because of the sheer lack of quality apple has put into leopard and the multitude and severity of the enormous bugs
in our office we have tons of mac pros with this same configuration and they ALL have the exact same major graphics flaws in leopard ----- not in tiger.

No offense but if you have a room full of Mac Pro's in a production setting why the hell are you putting a brand new OS on all of them? Anyone in a mission critical setting would never upgrade immediately after release. Why do you think Vista is being adopted so slowly in most corporate settings.

The design studio I work for has upgraded a couple machines with no issues what-so-ever running CS3 to the brink. It does not matter what company we are talking about there is always going to be some issues with every major OS release. 10.6 will be no different. At least Apple is working on fixes rather quickly. Chill out.

Still no wireless internet for me. I guess if I really want wireless I'll have to boot into Windows Vista where it works perfectly.

Yeah, my computer still refuses to remember my wireless network information. This is after:

1. Deleting keychains related to the wireless network
2. Deleting networks from the Network Preference Panel
3. Deleting network preferences file
4. Completely resetting airports and creating new network name/password
5. Changing airport setting from b/g to only "g"
6. Changed wireless network from hidden to non-hidden name
7. Verifying/Repairing permissions

Kill me.

I had one glitch when updating my Mac Pro 2.66GHz. 4GB of RAM, ATI 1900XL, and 4x500GB in a concatenated array.

It rebooted, apple logo, went black screen and rebooted again.

Sat a grey screen. Waited about 5 min, turned it off, turned it back on same thing.

Tried verbose mode to see what it was doing, that time it booted. Been fine now.
