This update has broke my parallels. I am so angry. First major Airport issues and now this crap. I even reinstalled parallels and it didn't help. It breaks the network connection.

I had the same thing, in fact when I tried to start the windows VM it hard crashed my iMac. Rebooted after the crash then rebooted again for good luck and ran parallels and i'ts fine.

Locked out of Admin Solution

I did the update to 10.5.1 just now and discovered that I lost my admin rights. I tried to make changes in system preferences and when I clicked the lock and typed in my user name and password, I couldn't get in. I get:

"You must type an administrator's name and password to make changes to System Preferences."

I even tried booting to the disk and resetting the password, but it still doesn't work.

I'm worried that I have lost control of my computer in such a way that I can't get it back. I have no admin. privileges!

What has happened? Has anyone else had this happen?

Panicked,
Joe

Joe,

Read this on another post and used it on a friends machine with this problem . Works beautifully.

• boot into single user mode with "apple + s" while turning on your mac.

• then after after typing "/sbin/mount -uw /"

• type "passwd"

• then type what you want for your root password...

• then type reboot

• log into your account... go to the accounts preference pane and click the lock at the bottom left...this time when prompted for username/password use:

User: root
password: (one you just created)

• now upgrade your account to admin....

• logout and back in and you're good as gold.
---

Good luck.

Ok TY, ill stick to transmission for now then ;-).

do you have the Ono plug-in installed? was causing kernel panics on my Mac Pro. took me a while to track it down as the problem. read somewhere (digg thread maybe) a PB user having a similar problem.

I haven't previously setup time machine but after updating I decided to setup time machine and formatted the drive as fat so that time machine could choose what it wanted. Time machine chose case-sensitive, journaled. It doesn't normally choose case-sensitive does it?

I did mine manually and selected case sensitive since Unix is case sensitive. Sounds about right.

iChat Problems

I was trying to use iChat with a friend, who had also upgraded to 10.5.1, but we kept getting disconnected with a "no data received for 10 seconds" error message. Is this happening to anyone else?

Surely that should be an easier effect to do that the menu translucency because it doesn't need to be updated in real time? I mean, that's the sort of thing you could do easily in software, let alone needing a GFX card to do it! :)

I'm just not convinced "Quartz GL" is actually needed to do that effect.

It is not a simple alpha like for menus. It's actually a core image recipe - several filters and effects. Take a close look using different pictures as background. it's not just alpha, it's not just a blur, it's not just a color shift...

I like to suggest that people reporting problems list their specific hardware and maybe any plug-ins and or non-apple software installed.

I had zero problems with 10.5 and 10.5.1, but I use a 15" PB 1.67 with very few 3rd party software and ZERO plug-in and zero hacks and zero commands entered in terminal.

My baby runs like a dream other than TM does not work correctly when the drive is shared over the network, works perfect when physically plugged to one of my systems.

I get the feeling most people with issues are running intel, but can't be sure.

scanline issues

i'd calm down if the $129 I wasted worked on my top of the line mac pro
and it doesnt.putting aside the asinine removal of dock hierarchal folders and simple options to reduce the ugly translucent menu bar,my system is still not usable.clean install and all
my x1900 high end graphics card puts lines all over the screen in leopard,if you think its just me and i'm blowing it out of proportion just look at apple discussions for samples. that and giant yellow and purple shapes that appear all over the screen at random.tiger never did this and hasnt done it since i went back so it is NOT a hardware issue.and no it is not fixed in 10.5.1,i just tried.
so a huge issue like this is just ignored and passed over by :apple: even though it is affecting thousands of mac pro high end customers majorily?! thats not what i'd call an update that should have been never needed

and back to the missing aka REMOVED 'enhanced' features in leopard like the stacks, menu bar, view options staying set and being stable, and a thousand other things ---- yes i am mad as hell at that. even the stacks feature that they demoed to the world in the public WWDC video showed them working MUCH differently.so much differently that it is another feature entirely. leopard is so half-as@ it isnt even funny so yes i have the right to be mad

I've noticed similar issues on my Macbook Pro. Whenever my computer gets hot and I'm using a Quartz Extreme or playing video game I see horizontal screen glitches. Seems to be heat related.... I'd check your fans.

Active Directory still does not work, but it's gotten better. The Directory Utility app doesn't crash when I try to load it, and it let me unbind the machine from AD through the GUI. Once it was unbound, my Mobile account works normally, but it goes back to failure upon rebinding to AD. My guess is that AD user authentication is still broken.

At least I don't have to pull the network cable just to login to my account anymore.

My MBP binded fine. My co-workers won't. We have an iBook which works fine. We have no clue. One thing we did have to do, is to use the Kerberos tools to correctly set the Kerberos Domain Controller, as Directory Services messes up the config file if you change your primary Active Directory host.
Once I set that correctly, my machine would allow me to change my password!

Sounds like your computer and not the update. I just installed the update on a MacPro and a MacBook Pro and Parallels 3.0 is running fine. Downloaded the widows Safari update as well. It seems snappier!...

WHAT A DAMN DISAPPOINTMENT. that little list of updates in 10.5.1 dont even cover the other huge bugs that mine has on a mac pro, total joke
and all of the complaints about stacks and the menu bar and no option?? wtf??!
i downgraded to tiger so i could have a working and good system but didnt think it'd be for too long.i guess it will be
with the .1 release theres no way they will release another update anytime soon.
to repeat WHAT A JOKE leopard has turned out to be!!

For me the menu bar and Stacks are awesome but don't count on changes happening from them. Apple most likely will not change anything if they don't see it as an issue. Remember for every ONE person like you who doesn't like the menu bar and Stacks there are 10 more who actually do like them. ;)

Thanks

Bickity, you are a beautiful person. Thanks it worked perfectly. I have regained control of my computer.

Thanks again.

i cant believe they havnt fixed macbook airport.
this is beyond a joke... been waiting about 3 months too long already for a fix.

Is this only me who has Skype broken since Leopard install? It worked the first time it was launched after 10.5 install but fails to launch subsequently. 10.5.1 does not fix that. Thank you Apple.

It works like breeze for me... Did you get the newest version?

on the contrary I'm having problems with Adium. Each time I drag a tab, the app quits, and it also randomly quits on other occasions.

Ah, apparently it is a known problem with Skype and Leopard. If firewall is enabled, Skype can be launched only once and the only thing that fixes it is reinstalling Skype from a fresh image.

Oddly, I have no problems with Adium - go figure....

That didn't take long! Nice job, apple.

But to be honest, I didn't have any real issues with leopard before, and my computer feels exactly the same as it was before: completely stable.

Help. Although Mac has released an update for leopard, I cant seem to download it using software update. It keeps saying that my software is up to date. Anyone knows whats wrong?

Safari Crashing after installing 10.5.1?

My safari won't start after installing the update... I've ran disk utility already and tried to repaired to all the permissions, but still no go... still no safari... luckily i still have firefox to fall back on... any ideas?
