I still can't get passed the setup assistant. I did disk repairs from the Leopard DVD but it didn't help. I have no idea what to do. My Macbook is pretty much useless as is.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this problem? I'm literally going insane and am worried I've totally ruined my mac.

Installed few hours ago. No problem except that it took longer to start up the system after reboot.

My safari won't start after installing the update... I've ran disk utility already and tried to repaired to all the permissions, but still no go... still no safari... luckily i still have firefox to fall back on... any ideas?

Ok. I've downloaded the combo upgrader from the website and reinstalled it again. now it seems to work again... Great!

For me the menu bar and Stacks are awesome but don't count on changes happening from them. Apple most likely will not change anything if they don't see it as an issue. Remember for every ONE person like you who doesn't like the menu bar and Stacks there are 10 more who actually do like them. ;)

I would have to pretty much assume you mean people who were not currently using folders in the dock prior to stacks. As anyone who was pretty much agree that.
1. Stacks do no work as first shown
2. Stacks behavior has replaced the folder in the dock behavior. which severly limits what you can do with them.

Also, I have encountered enough people who are upset about this to give it a more like 1 out of 2 or 3 is not happy rather than the 1 out of 10 which is still pretty bad.

And for the record I do not really care that much about the UI and I can't say that most who I talk to do. But I do care about the lost functionality and crippled features. Stacks should and obviously could be fixed as they demoed a working version of what I would expect stacks to be.

Guys I really need some serious help. Is there anyone who has any ideas as to how I can fix this issue?

Exactly the same error message

Repairing permissions was the first thing I checked and sadly it's still scr*wed. It hangs on "estimated time: less than 1 minute" fffoorrreeeeevvvveeeeerrrr...

I get a lot of warning messages as well, which I've not seen before, not sure if I should be worried or not.

I got exactly the same error messages.. Should I worry about this?

I hate when people keeps complaining about the menu bar and the Dock. PLEASE... This is how it is guys, Panther brought the exposé effect, some people use it and some don't it also brought the dashboard, one feature that I personally don't hate but not use. it was all part of Panther, the new OS X. Then Tiger Brings Spotlight and I don't know what else... crap for some and godies for others... this time Leopard brings a lots of improvemnets inside and they just change a couple of things for eye candy only... the magic it's inside, and you will know it when out of this world apps start popping around next year. then you will love Leopard as much you love Tiger now. Manu bar and new Dock are here to stay. like or not. and still kick Vista A5S all the way!

ok, not sure if its just me or not..

i have an ibook g4 with 1.25gb ram, i had tiger and it ran fast, i installed leo and it was zooming, now after the update..i get the damn rainbow ball again and again... when i am using safari, before i was able to apple+t, and make tabs, type in where i needed to go, before it loaded, apple+t again type in another address and again make another tab.. now.. i get the swirly thing just going through the first tab, i thought it was my connection but i just came from my university and it was crappy too...

anyone else having this problem?

I can confirm that:

a) never had an issue
b) never had an issue
c) never had an issue

Regarding c), I'll bet the original poster runs World of Warcraft, which randomly breaks Exposé if you change between fullscreen and windowed modes...

Updated my iMac to 10.5.1. Went smoothly and did not require the graphics firmware as it is not a freezer. But now I am getting an audible 'pop' just before user initiated sounds.(ie. volume adjust up or down) Also, Azureus is now telling me I'm firewalled, where before I had no NAT issues at all. Checked the firewall setting and it is set to "Allow all incoming connections".

Anyone else with either of these? or ideas about fixing either?

They didn't fix the kernel panics when bluetooth is turned OFF on my 12" powerbook. Take a look at the panic log. I don't see any telltale causes besides "data access". Am I missing something?

I have gotten that audio pop since i got my new MBP (just when Leopard was released)....HATE IT! :p

.

What's different about the way Stacks was initially introduced? I used to place my Applications folder in the Dock but I hated having to right-click in order for my apps to shoot up in a list. Now I can simply left click on my Stack. It's horrible to have to explain to friends to right click on my apps folder or else the Finder will open up instead. Now I understand Stacks isn't perfect because folders in the stack require the Finder to still open but what exactly did you see differently when Stacks was first introduced?

Again, the small amount of people that don't like Stacks is still very very very small. Apple sells millions of computers not hundreds so if Stacks was so poor you would be seeing thousands of more threads about it but there aren't that many.

WHAT A DAMN DISAPPOINTMENT. that little list of updates in 10.5.1 dont even cover the other huge bugs that mine has on a mac pro, total joke
and all of the complaints about stacks and the menu bar and no option?? wtf??!
i downgraded to tiger so i could have a working and good system but didnt think it'd be for too long.i guess it will be
with the .1 release theres no way they will release another update anytime soon.
to repeat WHAT A JOKE leopard has turned out to be!!

What exactly are the problems on your Mac Pro? I am running Leopard on a Mac Pro and I haven't come across anything serious.

I have run mine through the ringer, all Adobe apps, Vmware, Parallels, Red Hat, Vista, XP, Cisco server, Cisco client software, MS Remote Desktop, all Apple apps, Xcode, etc. I have found a few minor bugs and a few things I would like to see changed with the GUI but nothing that would make me want to downgrade to Tiger.

Same here, it's super annoying. I didn't have this before 10.5.1 and why would the update have caused something as stupid as an audio 'pop'?

My NAT/Firewall issue is at least plausibly caused by the update.

I posted this on another thread but I thought I might chime in with it again here as it seems to be a apropos. The original implementation of stacks was for creating them on the "Desktop", not the Dock, as it was a third party application (I forget where and when I read about it). I would much rather have stacks as Smart folders, similar to smart mailboxes, in which you can have a "Stack" of PDF's (for example) gathered on your desktop (much like you would have a stack of files on your desk organized). Let's say you have a ton of documents on your desktop; jpeg's, doc's, pdf's, etc. It would be AWESOME if you could have your desktop automatically organize all your files in STACKS according to file type. THAT makes much more sense to me then the stacks that are currently implemented in the doc. Having a stack in your dock organized by name just throws a random object in your dock, and if you have a lot of stacks in your dock (such as I do) coupled with open Safari pages and other applications it only makes for a muddled dock rather than an organized desktop. Plus, if the idea of stacks isn't to have an organized folder, than why does Leopard come pre-programmed with a downloads stack in the dock with a downloads folder icon (until the stack is changed to "Sort by Name" that is)?

I agree that the concept of stacks is antithetical to what they have turned out to be, but personally I would have liked to have seen Leopard implement a "Smart Stack" option for the desktop rather than what Stacks has turned out to be in the Dock. I'm not nitpicking, I like Leopard a heck of a lot, but if consumers don't make objections and comments, then how will anything improve?

Well... 10.5.1 on my MacBook just broke my AirPort disk access. I can connect to the AirPort, but then nothing else works. The disk I am trying to connect to never displays its folders, and the shortcuts and other icons in the Finder windows no longer work. The only way to restore function is to reboot.

This is just wonderful...

I second that, running just about every program you listed including Azureus, Data Rescue II and Roxio Toast 8, etc. No issues (thus far). Installation went well. Any chance third party applications such as Unsanity WindowShade, etc. were installed? What third party hardware (if any) has been added?

What?? Ok, usually I would agree with you... but for stacks??? Really?? Oh wait, you'd have to be kidding?

Anybody who used the dock to browse embeded folders sees Stacks as a giant, annoying, brain-dead step backwards. Seriously, how could apple remove a great tool?

Now if you barely used the dock to that effect before... then yeah... Ok... maybe stacks look "cool", but they ought to be better, that's all.

On the other hand, the translucent menu bar... well I don't look at it too much :p That's one of the things I can live with!

Just a little tiger tip... you know you could have left-clicked and held the button down for half a second for the list to pop up right??? Worked like a charm for me since 10.1!!

marble blast gold crashes

Does this crash for other people also? run marble blast gold, go to level 24 and roll over a mine... every time I roll over a mine, the game crashes.

I have a iMac PPC 1.8 ghz 17"

I guess in hindsight, buying the entry level Alu. imac was a good decision as I did not have any of the freezing problems :)
I understand that this has now been fixed with the update.

As for Leopard, being a new Mac owner (since September) and many many years in MS world, Apple is awesome! I have had practically no problems with Tiger and Leopard. I cannot tell you the many years I wasted on MS stuff that I had to fix.

I now look forward to getting a Software Update and can't wait to get home to install it, whereas with MS, I used to dread them.
