Interesting... I've been using f.lux for years and I've never had an issue. Hmmm.
Hmm... ongoing full screen video bug they refuse to fix or lack the knowledge to fix—more likely—that causes white areas to flare and the cursor to also flare. It's painful. Installed in the end because they wouldn't fix it. Next time rather than being snarky, just ask "what bug are you referring to". This bug is common knowledge among Mac users.

I've checked under Displays and the Notification Center and there's no sign of Night Shift on my 2011 Air. :-(

Is there somewhere else it needs to be enabled?

Cheers!!

I use f.lux on my MBP (e2011) and although it's nice in principle, it doesn't seem to be as polished as what Night Shift is on my iPhone and iPad. It seems to be too heavy on the yellow and I can definitely notice when it starts to kick in. Maybe I need to tweak the settings a bit more.
Yeah and it takes a while to actually adjust the screen. Night shift is instant.

It might just be me, but... updating to this beta broke Remote Desktop for me. When I click "Check for Updates" (see attached screenshot), nothing is available. Hopefully Apple releases an ARD update soon. Just a heads up if any sysadmins are thinking about updating...

Yes. the update does prevent it from opening. There is a thread in the developer forum on the issue with one possible solution that required editing a .plist file, reinstalling ARD, etc., but I haven't had a chance to test yet.

Can one of you fine people help me understand what the point of your posts are. I mean, they aren't funny, they provide no useful information. They turn away anyone who might come here for actual help or information. One can only get the impression that MacRumors is meant to be a joke and not taken seriously. Is that really what the owners want? How very sad.

Even after adding about a 100 to my ignore list, I still see this nonsense. I guess it's time to add more. However it would appear the supply of useless contributors is endless. How many ignored people can be added to the list by the forum software?
This forum was great 4-8 years ago. It's become overrun by teenagers and what appears to be people who genuinely just don't like Apple and as you know competing companies have been caught astroturfing before and my opinion is there is lots of that here too. Heck, if the NSA and GCHQ can do it then Samsung and other terrible entities are too. And they absolutely are.

Brutal! That would drive me insane :O

OR.... maybe some of us are PISSED OFF and hope that Apple takes notice.
I for one, would like to see MORE innovation to the core products (which doesn't seem promising) and LESS emoji and night shift development...( I know some like it) but WHY does Apple "think" I need less-stressful lighting, or whatever it is they want us to "think" is innovation. And that doesn't mean I don't want to see this stuff, but I want to see our core products move forward FIRST.

I thought differently over a decade ago, I used to get excited about the next OS update, BUT now the MacBook Pro seems to be going the way of their monitors and airport.

I hate to sound like a broken record, but would SJ have traveled down this road? Maybe, But I don't believe he would have let the other core products get outdated.

:(

Does updating to this version convert your files to APFS? Or is that something you have to do manually after the install?

will the night shift mode only work with retina screens?

Works on my non retina 2012 MBP and also on a Apple Cinema Display (The older all grey ones).
It also works on my 2012 Mac Mini but not on a connected LG TV, there is no Tab shown in Display Preferences while connected to this TV.

APFS is not yet available as a boot drive.

My old Intel iMac Duo had this feature back in the early 2000's. It wasn't voluntary though. It was because the bad case design caused the CPUs heat to stay trapped in the machine and cooked the LED screen so it couldn't show true white any longer. Whites were changed to an off yellow tone.

This feature would be nice for non graphics professionals. For graphic artists, not so much.

So Graphic artists always work on their computer while using it, they never use their computers for anything else.

They're the digital equivalent of beating plants with a stick when you have nothing else to stimulate your brain.

It might be the posters' own weird way of crying for help.

A cry for help, for poking fun at Apple? What an incredible theory.

Maybe all these people are just upset that they've invested in a closed ecosystem that seems to have a questionable future. Selling a full-priced Mac Pro and Mac Mini from 2013/2014 in 2017 is hysterical, especially when people around here tell you that "of course you need to upgrade your computer -- it's 3 years old!" ;)

I will be helpful when MacRumers announces a release and a new feature they would include a list of devices that support it. I have a 2010 iMac and I do not see the option available and when I ask SIRI she tells me it is not available.

Same here - Night Shift tab does not appear at all on my late 2011 15" MBP.
Nothing on my Early-2011 MBP. Disappointing. It's not a retina-only feature so why not allow it on all machines that support Sierra!

You guys looking for Night Shift on your computers, are you beta testers?
If not, it hasn't been released to the public yet

That sounds like a stretch for Apple. Can't have people "personalizing" their personal computers too much. It would be a return to the days of the classic MacOS and Kaleidoscope.

You may laugh but actually I'm glad that I can't customize everything. Otherwise I would spend endless time…

It's already hard enough to find the perfect Highlight color. They should remove the custom color option there :(

That is so precious and adorable! Apple listening to a bunch of whiny children on a rumors internet forum. That's rich...

This is really a misnomer. You're either don't know/care enough to be using words such as 'ecosystem' in relation to technology, or you're knowledgable enough to know that Apple has had a "questionable future" for pretty much its entire existence.

People are not "investing". It's all in their heads.

Yes, Apple has made questionable decisions, but instead of bickering and acting surprised at every decision, why not do as an actual investor would and switch platform? Buying stuff from Apple only justifies their questionable decisions.
