Another useless feature. Thanks Apple. Stop with the gimmicks and make something useful?

You're relatively new here, aren't you?

You see, this is a public forum where people can add their opinions and ideas concerning any given topic publicly.

If you don't like it, you're welcome to leave or continue ignoring anyone and everyone who rubs you the wrong way. Additionally, you may flag any comment you feel inappropriate, and forum moderators will take a look.

Best of luck, and may I suggest lightening up a bit?

Perhaps longtime readers don't appreciate users like yourself dragging down the discourse and content of the site with meaningless nonsense. If you have nothing to contribute, perhaps it is you who should leave instead of ruining it for the people who DO care about the site and the information here.

Can one of you fine people help me understand what the point of your posts are. I mean, they aren't funny, they provide no useful information. They turn away anyone who might come here for actual help or information. One can only get the impression that MacRumors is meant to be a joke and not taken seriously. Is that really what the owners want? How very sad.

Even after adding about a 100 to my ignore list, I still see this nonsense. I guess it's time to add more. However it would appear the supply of useless contributors is endless. How many ignored people can be added to the list by the forum software?

I haven't logged into MacRumors for so long I can't even remember what my account used to be, and I reregistered just to say

THANK YOU.

I love Apple of old, and I love Apple now. Maybe those who don't feel the same can switch to Windows and Android, or at least start adding value to the forum.

Regarding the actual topic, I've used f.lux for years, including on jailbroken iPhones back when I did that. Night Shift functions way more smoothly, and I'm expecting the same to apply to macOS.

I still have issues on there with f.lux, where sometimes it'll flicker, or if I quit it it won't disable. These are the cons of switching through color profiles to make it work.

However, the ability to disable per-app may be missing (anyone looked into it?), which I'll submit a feature request to Apple for.

...or you could..ya know...use FLUX....
f.lux works well but not perfectly (for me and my wife at least) and is rarely updated. Wouldn't you rather it be built in than use something external? I certainly would...

Not to mention them building it in just gives you more options. If you don't want to use it, just keep using f.lux...

How about a system wide "dark mode" that goes beyond the menu bar and dock?

One day they'll give us an eco system wide dark mode. One...damn...day...
[doublepost=1485467147][/doublepost]Switched the Public Beta back on purely for Night Shift. I've used Flux for a long time, but it's a tad buggy for my liking. I've switch Night Shift on and it seems to be working exactly the same, and I don't have to think about it.

Hopefully next we can have a dark mode for iOS and MacOS.

I just don't see how we have come this far and this is constantly missed. Why does everyone think we want to look at a white screen with black text. That looks good on paper, but a computer monitor is quite the opposite.

OR.... maybe some of us are PISSED OFF and hope that Apple takes notice.
I for one, would like to see MORE innovation to the core products (which doesn't seem promising) and LESS emoji and night shift development...( I know some like it) but WHY does Apple "think" I need less-stressful lighting, or whatever it is they want us to "think" is innovation. …
:(

I hear you. I also recall more excitement around OS releases for example, but I think part of the reason that's faded is because of the annual, incremental cycle they switched to (was it under Jobs?).

There had been a year of anticipation and a slew of new things. Now, there's no anticipation, and everything new is sprinkled throughout. If Night Shift had been part of OS X 10.5, it would've been in 10.5.0. Now, it's being released later in 10.12.4.

Not sure what to say about core updates. I agree the iPhone needs a jumpstart. But Touch Bar, the new keyboard, and USB C are all okay, forward-looking refinements, too… What else can they do with the iMac right now? Not saying they don't have plans, or there aren't advancements by others, but what else?

While the SJ Apple was more of a breakthrough company, I realized something about how they're different now when I picked up my AirPods: these earbuds won't revolutionize my life in a heartbeat, but they will revolutionize endless moments of my life that were slightly more inconvenient before.

Like listening to music in the gym, without a cord. That's all I've ever wanted! A core update wasn't necessary for this subtle revolution.

But either way, here's hoping iPhone 8 has wireless + contactless charging.

I am a longtime user, in fact.

Relax, take a deep breath, and smile. You'll feel better. It'll all be ok. I promise. ;)

This is really a misnomer. You're either don't know/care enough to be using words such as 'ecosystem' in relation to technology, or you're knowledgable enough to know that Apple has had a "questionable future" for pretty much its entire existence.

People are not "investing". It's all in their heads.

Yes, Apple has made questionable decisions, but instead of bickering and acting surprised at every decision, why not do as an actual investor would and switch platform? Buying stuff from Apple only justifies their questionable decisions.

Perhaps platform would have been a better term in this case.

It is investing when you buy into a bunch of software that only works on one platform, expecting a certain time duration of returns in the form of productivity and support.

You would need to invest into a bunch of new software and hardware on another platform if you decide you need to switch.

I do agree, though. I wouldn't buy Mac-only software at this point in time due to the direction Apple is taking the platform (desktop neglect), in addition to the relatively short lifespan of MacOS versions and the tendency for new versions to cause problems for software.

I don't think Apple's future is questionable at this time, but their desktop lineup... I'm not so sure.

In any case, it's a forum and people will express their concerns.

Not showing on my 2011mba, hopefully just a bug.

It may be that you didn't scroll to the very top of Notification Center to reveal the feature. I think they leave it up there out of the way as it may confuse some more novice users. If in any doubt, it's in a tab in Displays in System Preferences. I'm liking it better than f.lux already, as I predicted I would. It's simple and it works. That's all I wanted. Sunset to sunrise; set and forget. Goodbye forever, f.lux

You guys looking for Night Shift on your computers, are you beta testers?
If not, it hasn't been released to the public yet

Back up your computer first: very important on a beta. I cannot emphasises this enough.

When backed up fully eject and unplug your backup drive and then visit beta.apple.com and join the free public beta program and download the new beta, just as I did. Joined it 2 hours ago for the simple reason that I wanted Night Shift. I came down stairs after 40 minutes of meditation and my computer was stuck on a black screen—I started the install (after fully downloading the beta) before I went upstairs. For this frozen black screen (lit black) I held the power button until the computer completely shut off and then I pressed the power button and was able to continue the install after typing my password. 16 minutes was still remaining, but it certainly had froze as it would have been done installing before 40 minutes. Glad it worked out in the end. And to think I wasn't going to backup. Always backup first. Don't gamble.

Guys, you have all missed the main news: Siri knows cricket scores. Blimey. Anyone tried it. Limited to T20, Tests, ODI? First class: don't be silly.

Hmm... ongoing full screen video bug they refuse to fix or lack the knowledge to fix—more likely—that causes white areas to flare and the cursor to also flare. It's painful. Installed in the end because they wouldn't fix it. Next time rather than being snarky, just ask "what bug are you referring to". This bug is common knowledge among Mac users.

The F.lux guys have acknowledged the full-screen bug many times. They've said the bug is on Apple's end and there is absolutely nothing they can do about it until Apple issues a fix in the OS.

Which I doubt is likely to happen now that they're introducing Night Shift themselves.

Good God, put your goddamn laptop away before bed. This is progress? Apple is beginning to disgust me.
Why, stopping the use of a device before you need/want to when there are options that can help avoid that (when needed/wanted) isn't progress of some sort? I mean slicing bread isn't progress really either since bread can just be bitten or pieces can be ripped off using a hand.

No, it's simply not there.

Nightshift sent me to security and privacy to turn on location setting and I got the beach ball, system preferences won't shut down.

What year is your Mac? Model?

Yeah, who knows if that's even true. I heard them blame Intel as well. No need to care now for me anyway. F.Lux can be gone forever now.

instead of yellowing the screen, can Apple release a NIGHT mode where safari has white text on black background ?

I am currently using DELUMINATE for Chrome to fight that annoying and blindly black text on white background

I know people like to make fun of Night Shift but I'm glad Apple is implementing this on Mac finally. I've been using it on my iPhone and iPad so long now that I cannot use my MacBook at night with the lights off anymore due to eye strain. Like it literally bothers me.

I will be installing this beta ASAP!
