How is Group Facetime (that you will use three times in a year, for Christmas, Thanksgiving and your grandpa's birthday), multiplayer AR (when is the last time you played a AR game more than once before deleting it?), new Animoji and Memoji a "significant update"?

It can't be any worse than iOS11 on a ageing iPhone plus. Do you think I will see any improvements in usability? Is there a list of apps that don't work with iOS12? TIA

How are the performance differences on the iPhone 8+ or other A11 processor devices?

Based on my experiences last summer with iOS 11 betas, I’m gonna wait awhile.
iOS 12 thus far, is much better than iOS 11 was. I am running DB 2.

For the list of apps, check the iOS forum. There is a thread posting which apps are working/ not working.

I installed on my 8Plus and everything seems fine. definitely notice the speed boost over 11. there was no measurement app, but when I search for measure, it shows up and works... I found that odd. no real complaints so far :)

Apple this afternoon released the first public beta of iOS 12 to its public beta testing group, giving non-developers a chance to test the software ahead of its upcoming fall release. The first public beta of iOS 12 should correspond to the second developer beta, which was released last week.

Beta testers who have signed up for Apple's beta testing program will receive the iOS 12 beta update over-the-air after installing the proper certificate on an iOS device.

Those who want to join the beta testing program can sign up on Apple's beta testing website, which gives users access to iOS, macOS, and tvOS betas. Before installing a beta, make sure to create a full encrypted iTunes backup or an iCloud backup and be sure to install iOS 12 on a secondary device because beta software is not always stable and can include bugs.

iOS 12 is a significant update to the iOS operating system, introducing Group FaceTime, local multiplayer shared AR experiences, new Animoji, and a Memoji feature that's designed to let you create a personalized Animoji that looks just like you.

Animoji, stickers, text, and more can be used in FaceTime and the Messages app, and there's a new Screen Time feature to help customers understand and manage the amount of time they're spending on their iOS devices. New Do Not Disturb features make it easier to manage notifications, as do interactive notification options and notification grouping.

Siri has been improved in iOS 12 with Siri Shortcuts, which is designed to allow Siri to work with any app, and Siri is also smarter and able to provide info on motorsports, food, and celebrities.

Under-the-hood improvements to iOS 12 will make everyday tasks on the iPhone and iPad faster and more responsive, with the camera launching up to 70 percent faster and the keyboard showing up to 50 percent faster.

iOS 12 will be available to developers and public beta testers as a beta for several months to allow Apple to work out kinks and bugs. The update will see a launch this fall.

do you have to have 11.4.1 pb4 in order to see OS 12? Or will it show up if you have 11.4 beta installed? I'm only seeing 11.4.1 pb4 right now.

EDIT: nevermind, i should do what I try to teach my kids and read the instructions carefully... have to install the iOS 12 beta profile first (by removing the iOS 11 one first).

i'd love to see usage on my kids devices - tempted to install iOS 12 beta on their devices so I can see how much they are using their devices (and what they are using). I will test it out on my ipad for a few days and if it's stable then i'll install on theirs too.

Trying it out on both phone and ipad, runs smoother than 11.4 imo. I've only seen a small color glitch as I scrolled through photos, but it corrected itself quickly.

GPS is a little bit better compared to first dev beta, but still problematic here on my iPhone X (GSM version) running this first public beta (or dev 2)... best outdoors is 9 meter accuracy... but it jumps a lot between between 13-17m... I was usually getting 3-4 meters with a clear sky and 8 meters. with Dev 1, best outdoors was 17 meters.
works fine on iPhone 6 or 6s Plus (5 meters accuracy indoors/outdoors... same as iOS 11.x).

If someone is willing, and you’ve done a clean install of iOS 12, would you be willing to post the default home screen and second page on both an iPad and iPhone? I’m always curious to see the default app layout on a fresh install.

Thanks to those who volunteer to do this...if anyone? :)

Enrolled my iPhone X, when installing profile it asked if I wanted to install on my Apple Watch. Can I use public beta on my Apple Watch too?

I read that the OS on the watch cannot be downgraded so I would be careful putting it on a primary device.

If I downgrade back to iOS 11, will I be able to restore from an iCloud backup that was running on iOS 12 beta?

You can't simply downgrade, but you can put your phone is recovery mode and then do a restore to iOS11 and then pick your last iOS 11 backup file and it will restore you phone perfectly. I've already done this.

This seems to have broken text message forwarding to my Mac. Anyone else experience that? When I go into settings -> Messages -> send and receive, there is no longer an option for my phone number listed.

EDIT: Nevermind. Resetting my iPhone fixed it.

Can someone check and see if Screen Time can be turned off? I have wondered this since WWWC ... TIA
