I ran into a couple of bugs. Annoying but nothing major. On my iPad Apple apps I don’t use that I’d put into a folder were back as shortcuts not in a folder on my iPad so I had to spend some time getting my icons back in order. I also lost the ability to send and receive iMessages sent to my iPhone from my iPad post upgrade and had to shut off iMessages and re-enable it on my iPad and iPhone to fix it. Outside of those it is working pretty well so far.

I always have mixed feelings about public betas.
Sure, having a wider range of audience beta testing your product will be great for overall quality of the product, catching bugs here and there. But at the same time, seemingly there are more and more people that think a beta to be equal to GM (thanks to Google continuously pushing products for general release while labeling it beta). Thus we have people complaining about bugs, but not reporting any of it, which defeats the purpose of a beta release.

Can someone check and see if Screen Time can be turned off? I have wondered this since WWWC ... TIA
Yes. iOS 12 asks you after installing whether you want to turn on Screen Time.

Seems very smooth on my iPad Air, by the way.

I'm going to install it when I get home (after I make a backup of my current setup of course). I'm hoping for some speed improvements here and there and oddly enough I actually want to check out the Screen Time features. I am curious if I am using the phone far more than I think I am. The other stuff I probably won't mess with too much until the full release later this year when it will work with other peoples phones.

And almost forgot the biggest thing. I wanna play with Siri shortcuts, thats probably the biggest thing in this update to me... once developers start to fully implement it I think thats going to be awesome.
Switch Shortcuts app only available in the fall. You can make some in the Siri app but they are based on what you just did.

Did anyone download the public beta to try out Google Maps or Waze in CarPlay? If so, can you please share your experience, I'd appreciate it!

Coming mths will be available. From Waze on Twitter just recently. I have beta for Waze and not showing on my carplay yet.

Yes, just downloading and complaining is ****. If you download a beta please give a feedback on issues. This Will make the software better in a shorter time. Just wining on a couch if something doesn’t work is the wrong way.

Bit of a stupid question really, but here I go:

I have everything that I need in iCloud. So if my phone should go mayhem and I want to downgrade to iOS 11, will everything in my iCloud still be ok? Or could it happen that iOS 12 corrupts or changes let's say Health Data and Messages in the Cloud so much that it'll be either gone from my iCloud or not accessible from iOS 11?

How is Group Facetime (that you will use three times in a year, for Christmas, Thanksgiving and your grandpa's birthday), multiplayer AR (when is the last time you played a AR game more than once before deleting it?), new Animoji and Memoji a "significant update"?

How is leaving out several features a fair way to evaluate it?

How about the shortcuts app to make it easier to carry out custom workflows (yes workflows was very popular but this will hopefully bring it more mainstream attention); screen time is a fantastic tool for parents, allowing them to better monitor and control access to kids phones; things like third party password managers being more integrated is a big quality of life improvement for people like me that use apps like lastpass.

and bear in mind this is supposed to be less of a 'new features' release than a 'fixing things and improving performance' release which it appears to do. Especially useful if you have an older device.

Taking the plunge with my 2nd Gen 12.9" iPP.
I thought I could resist after the stability debacle called iOS11 (not only the Betas, but particularly its Betas).
But when it comes to iOS Betas, I am - and probably will always be - weak. :p

Edit: Wow - the new perspective effects are astonishingly smooth.
The whole experience is no comparison to what iOS11 delivered.

If I now don't even stumble over any catastrophic bugs, I'm sold :)

I have reported bugs in betas ad nauseam and not one was fixed before GM, most are not even fixed now. I have serious doubts their beta programs do any good... I have given up on reporting bugs outside of radar. At least there you get feedback when it is closed, etc.

Waiting for confirmation this is fixed. I use CarPlay every day...

I've had zero issues with all those things including carplay.

Through CarPlay? That was what the original question asked-- if Waze or Google Maps works through CarPlay.

You can't use third-party map apps yet because they need to be updated first. Most likely not until the fall.

What I like is:

If you swipe up (even if just a bit) quickly while in an app, you are now returned to the home screen immediately.
If you want to raise the app bar, you have to swipe up a bit slower.

That's actually great!

iTunes Remote App doesn’t work on my 5s. Haven’t experienced any issues with third party Apps so far

For what it’s worth... (not much)

I now download Public BETAs as a matter of course. I don't see many issue with it. I've never had a bricked iPhone. On occasion I may have an app that doesn't work right and then I remember its likely due to the BETA. Battery is sometimes an issue, but I just carry a spare USB block if I know I’m going to be out all day. Sometimes the OS can be a tad clunky and jumpy but all in all, if you’re on these forums then I’d say you’re geeky enough to:

1) be able to download the BETA in the first place:

2) be interested enough to get a peek at new features:

3) in a worst case can jump back to iOS 11.

Not sure why I posted. But hey BETAs are there to play with new features, so download and play. Just don’t complain if they don’t work – that’s the point!
