iPad (mini?) users beware.

Public beta3 was slow but fine on my iPad mini; beta4 is crashing the springboard, no background audio is working (audio stops when the screen goes off - Overcast and Music.app), and it just freezes up switching apps using the home button and drops back to the lock screen.

I've restarted, hard reset, etc. YMMV.

I've also got it on an iPhone6s and none of this is happening.

On my IPad Mini 4 this is the best beta yet, runs smooth. Last beta would lock in app switcher and only fix with hard reset, I don’t have any of this now. First beta that actually forget that I am on a beta most of the time, if that makes sense.

It’s impossible to answer that when different people are experiencing varying magnitudes of performance on their ios devices.

My iPad Pro performed pretty well on the first ios public beta but apparently some have had crappy performance. Now, my iPad feels smoother, with safari seemingly faster than before. But if you follow the beta thread, some are still getting awful performance.

I can only speak from personal experience that my 9.7” iPad Pro is working great, but obviously, one's mileage will vary.

anyone know if airplay2 multi-room support is active in the latest iOS beta? i'm running the latest public betas on iPhone 7plus and apple tv gen 4?

Apple today released the fourth public beta of iOS 11 to its public beta testing group, allowing non-developers to download and test the new operating system ahead of its fall launch. The fourth public beta of iOS 11 comes two weeks after Apple released the third public beta and it corresponds to the fifth developer beta that was released earlier this week.

Beta testers that have signed up for Apple's beta testing program will receive the new iOS 11 beta update over-the-air after installing the proper certificate on an iOS device.

Those who want to join the beta testing program can sign up on Apple's beta testing website, which gives users access to iOS, macOS, and tvOS betas. Step-by-step instructions for downloading installing the public beta can be found in our how to. Betas should only be installed on a secondary device because the software is not stable and includes many bugs that have yet to be resolved.

Today's update, if it matches up with the fifth developer beta, removes the iCloud Messages feature, introduces new icons for Camera and Settings, features a new Control Center Music widget that makes it easier to send music to AirPlay devices, speakers, and headphones, and more.

iOS 11 introduces some fairly significant changes to the operating system, including a new Lock screen experience and a customizable, redesigned Control Center. Siri is smarter, has a more natural voice, and can do more, Messages features person-to-person Apple Pay, Notes has searchable handwriting and document scanning, and Music lets you share playlists with your friends for the first time.

A new Files app introduces better file management on iOS devices, and on the iPad, there's a new Dock, an App Switcher, and support for Drag and Drop, all of which improves multitasking on the device. A revamped App Store is coming in iOS 11, photos and videos take up less space, iMessages can be stored in iCloud, and developers are getting new tools like ARKit for creating impressive new augmented reality apps and games.

For complete details on all of the features included in iOS 11, make sure to check out our iOS 11 roundup. Apple plans to release iOS 11 to the public in the fall following several more weeks of testing and refinement.

Cool. Where is the link to the release notes for beta 4? I'm installing it now and I'd like to know what is in it!

Bugs and quirks found thus far:
-bluetooth streaming to audio devices crashes within the first minute and crashes out music player app.
-using device as hotspot causes screen to wake up randomly when screen should be blanked.
-Device prompts for passcode immediately despite being set to wait one hour.
-Pressing home button to wake from sleep sometimes won't respond for a minute or so.

I noticed a couple other quirks as well and I have reported all of these.

Concur. PB1 was great for me, PB2 would lose wifi when the iPad was asleep and required a reboot to get it back. PB3 was fine, PB4 seems fine. I've heard people with the exact opposite experience. It's a friggin' beta—nobody knows how anything is going to perform on your particular device. Either accept that it's a crapshoot and you're gonna have weird problems (*that you should be reporting*) or just downgrade and wait until September.

Does it perform better? ONLY ONE WAY TO FIND OUT.

Thank you for mentioning this. I had played with invert in the last version, but haven’t tried it again. I’ll have to go check out the default accessibility settings again.

Well, so far nothing out of the ordinary for me... But I haven't had a chance to test a ton yet. Hopefully tonight will give me more opportunity to play around.

I don't know if it's new or I just hadn't touched any of them before yesterday, but the little animations on some of the icons in Control Center are "fun." I'm starting to wish we could do more precision placement of the Control Center widgets... The ordering in Settings isn't very helpful when the lineup "wraps" so the ones you position lower in the listing end up back at the top of the next column, and in landscape orientation all of the top listed ones appear lower on the screen than the bottom listed ones.

Bogus. There is no 9.5 iPad Pro.

Well done, you found my mistake. Here, have a cookie.
[doublepost=1502292731][/doublepost]Something I found out last night was I said 'Okay Siri' instead of 'Hey Siri' and Siri activated, I dont know if that's a bug, or a new feature, or its been around for a while but my iPhone 7 Plus running iOS 10.3.3 doesn't do it when I say 'Okay Siri' - curious to know if this works for anyone else?

Appears to have fixed a majority of the issues I was having on my iPad Air 2. Typing would not consistently register on the keyboard. Removing an app from the dock wouldn't work. The app would suddenly re-appear back on the dock and continue to "wiggle" as if I were trying to remove it.

Deleted my first reply (power save mode turns “hey siri off, didnt know that). “Ok Siri” does infact activate Siri here...

Sounds very "non-public betaish" to me.

Guess I'll hold off a little longer.

Here's to hoping they fixed the battery life on the 10.5 iPad Pro! PB3 ran perfectly for me in every way except for the battery draining 2-3x as fast.

Definitely one of those individual experiences... I would say mine drained faster, but not by that much. Maybe an hour to two hours less usage time on PB3.

Best yet on my mini 4. Things actually work now and no resprings or lockups yet. Weird.

Nope. Only can go back to 10.3.3 at this point. Its not about getting the firmware file but Apple has to sign it (as in say its a valid version to apply) and they are only signing 10.3.3 at this point.

I don't know. This beta seems pretty bad for me as well. Animations are jittery. There is an annoying pause swiping between home screens. Messages app shows messages and then nothing.

From PB 3 to 4, I've also lost 200 points in single core and 400 points in multi core Geekbench scores.

For what it's worth, I've done two hard resets since installing.

I’m running PB 4 on both an iPhone7 and a 9.7 iPad. I’ve had no problems with either machine. I see no point in running Geekbench on beta releases.

I know it doesn't mean anything with beta releases; I just find it interesting to observe.

...just like how it's interesting some people have no issues with certain betas and others have many.
