Apple Releases Fourth iOS 11 Public Beta

Is anyone else getting what seems to be a reboot when the screen turns off? I was using my iPad Air yesterday and was listening to music through it, and every time the screen shut off due to inactivity, it seems like the device had to restart? It only seems to happen on the iPad since I was using my phone for music earlier in the day and it didnt do the same thing. Probably only something you would notice if you were playing music since you dont notice a reboot of a device if you turn the screen off. It would shut off and then be back on in a matter of 15-20 seconds.

Sounds like you are describing whats called a springboard crash. Haven't had any since beta 4 but previous to that they were very common. Depends on what you are doing or app you are using that may not be quite compatible with iOS 11. In mine and others case, beta 3 would springboard crash when closing any app then immediately swiping right to get to widget screen. Like 99% of the time. That has since been corrected.

Beta, it’s a Beta dude. Not RC OR GM. I hate when people whine about pre release software.
Maybe not whining but stating a comment on the beta? Not every negative comment is whining but some are simply stating their opinions and experience. To me beta 3 was a mess but not whining about it just stating my opinion/experience :)

The only thing I've run into that's somewhat problematic, but also not consistent, is that if I leave an app (most recently noticed using the App Store) open in the background, switch to another app, and then come back to the first, the first app is not responsive to touch input and has to be completely closed and relaunched to fix. It hasn't happened every time (in fact, more often than not it hasn't happened), so it's tricky even to document/capture.

iPhone 7 on PB 4 with Watch S2 running 3.2.3. Dictation reply to text message on Watch doesnt work. When i touch the microphone button Siri activates as if its listening, but no text ever prints after I speak. Report submitted. Anyone else?

Dang I appreciate all the comments. I usually install the latest public beta and am looking for a constant flow of "buttery smooth" UX with the latest beta but there seems to be a lot of issues with PB 4.

Hadn’t thought if that. Is this maybe an iPad issue? Anyone with a new iPad having an issue even getting the update to show up, let alone download and install?

I’ve got the 10.5” iPad Pro and every update has been there right away... PB3 was even downloading before any forum posts here stating it was available. PB4 was available as soon as I saw it posted here as available (I was less proactive this time).

Running PB4 on my iPad Pro and while the UI does seem more fluid, I have encountered a couple of bugs as well. Once, my iPad completely froze while playing a podcast and had to be rebooted. A sobering reminder that a beta is still a beta, however they dress it up with new iPad functionality and all.

I just don't have the balls to install a beta on my iPhone, which is really my daily driver. I run my life from it, and cannot afford to have it malfunction in the slightest.

Hi,

Took the plunge last night.... liking PB4 very much so far. I may not use the wide array of features that others do, but it seems better than others have dealt with.... or just lucky....knock on wood....

It's running fine on my 10.5 so far.

You have to be enrolled as a beta tester first, then download and install the beta release on your device.

Before you install the beta, you are well cautioned to do a full backup of your device.
