What I'm running into. All indications are that it should. Apple support tried to trouble shoot, but came up empty and chalked it up to being a bug. Who knows. I'd like it there just as much as on phone, which it does work on.

Is not included on 17.0. Perhaps have been delayed to 17.1.

The release notes does not mention this feature either, which is telling.

Also saying just "Siri" only works for English (US), nothing else.

Thanks. Kinda stinks though as I'd really like the feature on homepods. Apple support just took me thru trouble shooting and then gave up. "Siri" does work okay. Appreciate it

Shorter 'siri' command is now working on original HomePods (2018) after the HomePod iOS 17 release. Back-to-back siri requests do not work (like they do on iPhone, iPad & AirPods Pro 2 with the iOS 17 update). Hopefully, Apple has the 'courage' to keep showing the original HomePod some love... :)

Back-to-back requests are not working either on newer HomePod 2 and HomePod minis so there may be hope that it will come to all models with a minor point release...

I’m pretty sure this update got rid of their recently added, “additional volume steps at low volume”. It’s either too quiet or too loud at the lower range.

Edit: This is for the OG HomePod

I thought I was missing something as I thought the HomePods should have had the back-to-back feature. Don't understand why it would not be included on these devices. Guess i'll hope for an update too, but don't know was left out to begin with.. Hmm

It´s not working on any Homepod model. Since the release notes does not mention this particular feature, I think it´s been delayed. Let´s hope for 17.1

why doesn't "enhance dialogue" work with first generation homepods? isn't processing done on the appletv 4k anyways? this is ridiculous.

Not in this case. The processing is done on the pods after the apple tv has send them the audio stream. The homepods separate the dialogue from the rest of the elements of the mix in real time, bring it forward in the way they project the sound to you and then increases the volume of the virtual center channel.

Its quite complex and a game changer, honestly. Given that is the first audioOS feature not available to the first gen homepods since its launch, I suspect the process require some neural engine capabilities (to do it accurately in real time), which is a set of instructions the S7 of the second gen Homepods support -since its based on the A13 chip-, and the A8 does not. I suspect that the day the homepods will receive local on device processing, like the Apple Watches just did, only the second gen will get it.

My homepod mini updated to 17 (as soon as I connected to it from my MacBook Por running Ventura, it started to update).

Apparently completed OK. But when I try to play anything, no sound comes out.

Had similar issues for the past few updates. Just get to the point of being really annoyed and it somehow it starts working. Keeping my fingers crossed the same happens this time.

Maybe when Sonoma arrives???

The HomePods don’t use the phone to play music if you do a direct request with Siri— it pulls data directly from the network

Yup same thing here!
or if you use your phone and navigate to HomePod instead of airplay it from your phone.

Does this fix volume control with a stereo pair + ATV that the last update broke? Cus that's been a HUGE pain point for me (and I'm still digging through replies so ... here's hoping the answer is buried in there, but I'm probably going to miss it)
I completely meant to update but got pulled into an HOA meeting.

So far ... it does. For which I am exceptionally grateful

And here I thought it was just the fact I finally had volume control on both Homepods again.

I'm glad it's not my imagination; I'm running into the same thing.

Yeah, all my homepods don't even wake with just "Siri". I still have to use "Hey Siri"

I'm on English (Canada)

Gotta toggle it on manually... in the Home app.. wow

After several restarts of my homepod mini, it suddenly started to work. Odd. But glad that is out of the way for a while.

For “Siri” to work, you need to toggle it on in Home app settings.

I have years of built up habits of mindlessly saying “Hey Siri” while going about my day at home. I’ve never liked having to say the “Hey” part because that’s not how I speak with a person. Now that the day is here that I don’t have to say it, it’s going to take a while to unlearn the habit.
I love you

I changed my language to English (US) from English (Australia) and it is still not giving me the option of just ‘Siri’. Could it be a region thing rather than/as well as a language thing?

So the ‘Siri’ only option is coming up for you in Canada?

It’s not showing up for in. I am in Ireland, and have my language set to English (Australian). Tried changing it to English (US), and not luck. Even after a phone off/on trick

Have you tried to actually go into the Home app on iPhone ? The setting is right there in the settings.

I got it working now. I was changing the language under the main ‘Language & Region’ settings, not the ‘Siri & Search’ settings.

I updated all my HomePods 2nd generation and my HomePod minis to HomePod OS 17. Sadly, it's just another bad HomePod OS. Pretty all the issues Apple introduced in their mediocre HomePod 16 are still there. I didn't have a single good HomePod OS update for 12 consecutive months. It's awful! Am I the only one who experience various issues with the HomePod?

Sometimes music stop for a few seconds, sometimes one HomePod completely disconnects while other times all HomePods just all stops. I also have songs that end way before they should or songs that start in the middle. It's a terrible experience and Apple doesn't even seem to care about fixing their software. I wish I had bought another smart speaker…
