A patch this fast is also a sign of a rushed os11 software release /poor QA...

Or this hot-fix was not yet ready for public consumption. Software development happens in several "streams" or "branches"... feature branches, bug-fix branches, etc. A branch is spun up, the fix is made, tested, and only when ready does it get incorporated into the main distribution. So just because this fix was released so quickly after 11.0 doesn't mean they rushed it. Likely, they did _not_ rush it because they were still testing.

maybe if beta testers were actually testing instead of thinking the purpose was to have it first we wouldn't need patches 7 days later

Your thinking is wrong... Just so you know a lot of company email system will block beta OS so its hard to test/give feedback. I am a vendor/contractor for a large fortune 100 company and I can not send email when using a beta through Office 365 and Exchange. Anyone who is familiar with AirWatch knows about these issue when using beta.

Not sure why you're being intentionally obtuse. Sure, though, I'll take your bait.

To be absolutely specific for C DM here, who obviously knows what I'm asking, how is it possible that a major release needs an update less than a week from release?

Cue C DM's condescending response to a legitimate question...

As was pointed out previously, software contains potentially millions of lines of code, and any line of code may interact with many other lines of code at different times and in different ways.

When releasing software, you must have software in a relatively stable condition. You identify bugs, put them on lists, prioritize fixing them, and then begin to troubleshoot them.

The list fluctuates with some bugs being squashed and others being discovered. And even in the process of squashing a bug, you might create another bug by accident.

The project manager makes a call at some point about which bugs will be fixed for the next release. One group of programmers is working on the bugs that will be included in that release and another group starts working on the bugs to be included in the next release.

So software is always being released with known bugs that are in the process of being fixed, but were deemed to not be fixable in time to be included in the next release.

That's a very simplistic view of the complexity of software design, but it demonstrates why a bunch of updates might come very soon after a major release. This process is always going on, especially when new features are being introduced.

Quite so. The GM was released to the public last week, to Beta testers the week before. But is was finalized for manufacturing much before that. They have a ship date to meet. At some point, a version of the development code is deemed both feature and deployment ready. It does not mean complete and bug free. It means that no show stoppers are there. Or at least that whatever issues are known to be outstanding, they can be released shortly after launch. This update is not 1 or 2 weeks in the making.

Wow... What a difference. My iPhone 6 Plus became nearly unusable on iOS 11. Very sluggish, long delays after unlocking and I'd often lose a photo opp because the camera could take up to 10 seconds to launch. Everything seems to have been polished. I got my 6 Plus back! I think this guy can go yet another year.

Battery drain still there.

I have 39 minutes of usage and 50 minutes of stand by since last charge and I’m down to 88%

connecting to airplay devices takes 15+ seconds after this update, music app is general works much worse. going back to 10.3.3.

Apple today released the first official update to its new iOS 11 operating system, iOS 11.0.1. iOS 11.0.1 comes just a week after Apple released iOS 11 to the public.

The iOS 11.0.1 update can be downloaded to all eligible devices over-the-air in the Settings app. To access the update, go to Settings --> General --> Software Update.

Today's update addresses several minor bugs that have been discovered following the release of the iOS 11 golden master. According to Apple's release notes the update includes bug fixes for iPhone and iPad.

iOS 11 is a major update to the iOS operating system with a redesigned Lock screen experience, a new customizable Control Center, a new Siri voice, a redesigned App Store, and an overhauled interface for the iPad. For more info on all the new features in iOS 11, check out our iOS 11 roundup.

Update: As noted by Ars Technica, iOS 11.0.1 appears to fix an Exchange e-mail server bug that prevented many users from sending email from Outlook, Office 365, and Exchange Server email accounts. In a support document covering the feature, Apple now says customers can fix the issue by updating to iOS 11.0.1.

Not showing up for me, iPhone 7 Plus

I had the GM version, and it wasn't showing to me as well...

Had to connect to my iTunes, and from there I got the update, good luck!

I just finished installing this upgrade 11.0.1 after installing 11.0, on wife's iphone 6, looks good so far. Safari is smooth so far. Will update with battery life in a while...

Search still sucks for iOS 11! Most of the time if I use search is to just type a few first letter of the app I want to open, mainly for find my app installed then others like finding contacts or notes. This time since Apple want to make siri search an all in one, finding some apps are much harder. For example GasBuddy app until I type all the words that's the only time the app shows up as a top hit result. It got worse when I type Chick-Fil-A because until a completed the whole exact name of the app including dashes that's the only time it showed on the result. Apps and contacts should be the priority and if I want to search my email then I go to email and the web I go to safari. Siri is not very smart after all!

If you are on the GM and don't see the update, try what I did and should work.

1: Go to Settings > Profiles
2: If you still have the Beta profile, delete it and restart the phone once it is removed.
3: Check for update and see it now!

The beta profile looks at a different server for the update and since 11.0.1 was apparently never uploaded to that server you need to be on the normal update server or manually update from a PC to get it.

Worked for me. Thanks.

Wow really? Perhaps you should become a beta tester then. I am sure Apple would fix ALL your reported bugs immediately.

You missed the point, how many beta testers dont say anything they use it as some kind of braging like hey look at me I'm a beta tester ( this happens when beta testing is open or is randomly given out from sign ups)

Im sure the real ones did report issues

An update to an update in a week, Android users can't relate.....
It is great (and appreciated), but such timely fixes to disruptive flaws are really nothing less than essential (especially during new hardware and software roll-outs that are already reported to be relatively 'soft'), so as not to erode confidence in their brand, and in this case even more so with the highly anticipated iPhoneX on the immediate horizon.

Got it, and yes I am sure a LOT do just that. You just made a more general statement to all testers and really its Apple that hasn't acted on all the feedback (like the stupid calculator bug that was reported maybe thousands of times) not the beta testers fault. All good!

Not seeing this update for my iPhone 6s Plus or 10.5 iPad Pro. Hope it fixes the "phone reset/home button delay" issue. Bugs the crap outta me.

My two devices are in the beta program. The only way I could update was connecting to iTunes. It will prompt to download the update for each.
