Now i go off to the beta thread and get b6 users’ views of performance and experience on X, since b6=GM
Did you even bother to read the post or any of the comments?
It only appears on the lock screen, which is annoying. I would rather it not be there at all. I can’t imagine that that many people were having a hard time figuring out where control center was. And even if they work, I don’t think a line under the status bar makes people look at it and think, “Oh! There’s control center.“I find the line in the right ear on the X a frustrating addition of clutter. If people are having a hard time finding control center it's because Apple designed the X interface in an inconsistent matter with the rest of the iPhone models. The line is at best a band-aid to a larger iOS GUI design issue which shouldn't have been an issue at all. Placing control center up there is odd (because of the inconsistency) and inconvenient.
The line just distracts and almost looks like it's a defect -- dead pixels. The original bottom line isn't great but at least it's a bit hidden. My personal feeling is if you need a cue to tell you how to use the GUI then that GUI is poorly designed. A GUI -- esp. an Apple GUI -- should be intuitive or at least only a slight learning curve. But I'm pretty sure X users can memorize where it is without the line cue. I wish Apple incorporated a "advanced user" mode where both of these cues could be disabled. After 5 minuets using a X they really are superfluous.
Edit: just finished updating my X. The control center "cue" line showed up briefly but now is non-existent. Not sure if that is normal but happy it's not persistent, at least on mine.
me tooYes, I updated mainly for that reason.
Yet another rushed update to deal with a catastrophic bug.
No haptics for home or control center on my X, fwiw.
Not for me.Thats good!
Haptic to home EVERY time you close an app would drive me nuts
Control center back to home, does that evoke haptic like 11.1.2?
My other half 6 plus was painfully slow. She upgraded to an 8 today.
Considering apple bang on about (allegedly) how much faster their chips are, its either piss poor programming or clearly planned obsolescence as the lag, app switcher and general use speed was awful on the 6 plus. Her new 8, surprise surprise, is lovely and speedy.
Planned obsolescence is a folklore. Never existed.
I believe planned obsolescence is in effect from a complete lack of care
I'm on a 7 Plus and I have it as well. Just checked.Looks like you are on an X? Maybe they left it enabled on those with it for a softer rollout. Definitely not enabled on my several 7+ in front of me.

Thx. Just saw this update. Probably Monday since most banks are closed on the weekend for technology issues. I work for WF.So no Apple Pay Cash until early next week. Great, I almost missed that last little paragraph.
Update: We're seeing several reports that Apple Pay Cash is not available in the release version of iOS 11.2. Given that this update was released at an unusual time, it may not be activated as of yet. It's likely we'll see Apple Pay Cash become available early next week.
However, unplanned obsolescence exists - in an unpredictable form.Planned obsolescence is a folklore. Never existed.

This article doesnt discredit anything.
Real world use/performance and experience crushing bugs are a real thing.
Benchmarks wont reveal that. They just render stuff and spit out #’s.
Of course apple isnt SLOWING DOWN the processor itself with new versions for older gear.
But people with older gear on newer versions, experience way worse times. And its not just nostalgia. It’s a lack of care.

I dont believe its intentional malicious planned obsolescence, fwiw.
I think its middle managers cracking the whip telling them to spend 95% of their efforts on the newest device for stock market perception/sales, etc. and to backport to other devices “when they get to it” before issuing a final release for any firmware.

Slower from new features.
