The issue raised by the person you quoted is not the existence of bugs. That is, as you noted, a fact of life in even the very best development environments with the very best talent.

The issue is the relative frequency of those bugs relative to the past, as well as the relative severity of them.

I don't think my memory is being selective when I say that things are worse with iOS 11 and High Sierra than they have been in the past. As someone who has been testing developer builds for over a decade now, I can also say that's a somewhat common viewpoint on the Apple message boards, too.

I'm not one to jump on the "must fire someone" bandwagon; it stinks of the "don't just stand there--do SOMETHING" approach to management that, in a word, sucks. But something's gotta give.

Apple is a company run by human beings. There are going to be bugs and mistakes with every major release. It happens to all companies. It happened under Steve Jobs, Bill Gates, and every other CEO that ran any other company.

I believe the best thing Apple can do right now is to ignore these armchair critics and keep doing what they’re doing: fix the bugs (they did it on both of these within 24 hours), learn from the mistake, and move on.

What else can you really ask of them? Perfection? Not possible and unreasonable. Greatness? Greatness is finding a bug and having a patch out in under 24 hours. Heck, Google is considered a “great” software company around here and they still haven’t issued patches for some of the major bugs found on the Pixel 2 within hours of launch. And this is a company who focuses primarily on software.

WHYYYYYYYYY?

Just let us disable it if we wanna disable it. Do you think we're idiots?

You can completely disable it in Settings if you 'wanna'.

Personally, I like the quick access in Control Center to a temporary disable option. I have accidentally (idiotically?) left Wi-Fi turned off, because of a limited Wi-Fi network blocking internet access, and then had my cellular data run over the limit when updating apps the next day at home because I forgot to redo the setting.

wow what a bug manifested ios we've been living with on ios 11 I mean look at all those bug fixes release and some critics would tell me ios 11 isn't crap, it's only just getting better ... i'd say the original release of ios 11 and ios 11.1 are just beta ; why release an ios when it's not ready yet why release a bug filled ios and cripple our devices ' it doesn't make sense
I absolutely agree.

I'd prefer it, if Apple would stop their "yearly-update cycles" on almost all products, thus fragmenting the hardware even more and fragmenting the software even more. I hate to be part of "living beta programs", that is not what Apple means - or at least meant.

I do remember "Apple - it just works."
That was a long time ago.

We should ask for “courage.” Apple used to also focus on software. We see the results release, upon release, upon release. My expectations are higher, enough of the crisis releases. :apple:

I like the value proposition of Apple, it all makes perfectly sense. The hardware is beautiful and top notch (;)) quality.
However, since iOS is so poorly designed (user experience) and implemented (code), the entire package and ecosystem is completely out of balance.
Why would I invest my money in super expensive hardware and lock me in in the ecosystem, when I need to spend 15 mins of troubleshooting to start an activity (ie. start music from Apple Watch and send it to AirPods, finish a workout and start a Nike run).

/end of rant

Only slight issue I've noticed on my X is a slight lag when typing in any messaging app (Messages and WhatsApp primarily). It lags when I reach the end of the text window and move onto start a second line. Anybody else experiencing this?

I’m getting a lot of Safari reloads on the iPhone X now. I hadn’t had any reloads in the two weeks since I received it.

where in settings?

I absolutely hate this version of iOS. Every time I switch apps, particular to Notes, there is a loooong pause before it will respond to my input, even if the apps are open in memory. Just copying and pasting text between apps is extremely frustrating now. It simply wasn't like this on iOS 10.

I do it all the time. I would think a lot of people do. Apple was right to add this feature. Want it off forever? Take 3 more seconds and do it through settings.

Agreed. Each and every app takes 2-3 seconds to grab internet data. Weather Channel and AccuWeather are prime examples.

In case you haven't read the MR starting post or any of the posts in here, this version was released expressly for the purpose of handling the date bug, which could be a real show stopper for some users with 11.1.2 or earlier.

If apple pay isn't included (and some people claim it IS working) it's either because back end services haven't been turned on yet, or because some beta testers are still having problems. It takes as long as it takes. I really don't see this as any source for concern. Patience grasshopper

Oh of course I’m patient Lol. I’m not foaming at the mouth in anger. Life goes on. It’s just one feature I’ve been waiting for since June and here we are 6 months later without it. Butttt I understand that everything takes time.

iOS being poorly designed is purely subjective. Personally I love iOS and think it’s superior to android. It’s simple, sophisticated and elegant. Android is clunky, confusing and laggy. I want an experienced that’s easy to use. Everyone complaining about these updates hasn’t been on android. We are fortunate to get updates, android doesn’t even push out to users for months. Sometimes never. You don’t know what you have until it’s gone.

Apple today released iOS 11.2, the second major update to the iOS 11 operating system available on the iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. iOS 11.2 comes a month after iOS 11.1, the first major update to iOS 11, and it follows several other smaller bug fix updates.

The iOS 11.2 update is available on all eligible devices over-the-air in the Settings app. To access the update, go to Settings --> General --> Software Update. Eligible devices include the iPhone 5s and later, the iPad mini 2 and later, the iPad Air and later, and the 6th-generation iPod touch.

iOS 11.2, as a major 11.x update, brings several new features and important bug fixes. It introduces Apple Pay Cash, Apple's peer-to-peer payments service. Apple Pay Cash works through the Messages app and is designed to allow for quick person-to-person money transfers, like Square Cash or Venmo.

You can quickly and easily send and receive money through iMessage conversations with Apple Pay Cash. Cash is sent from a linked debit or credit card, while received cash is stored in an Apple Pay Cash card in the Wallet app and can be used for purchases or transferred to a bank account. For more on Apple Pay Cash, check out our how to.

For the iPhone X, iPhone 8, and iPhone 8 Plus iOS 11.2 appears to introduce faster 7.5W wireless charging speeds through compatible Qi-based wireless charging accessories. At 7.5W charging speeds, the three new iPhones are able to charge faster wirelessly than with the standard 5W wired iPhone power adapter.

When it comes to the iPhone X interface, iOS 11.2 adds a small bar underneath the status bar icons located at the upper right side of the Lock screen, which is designed to make the location of the Control Center gesture more clear. On the iPhone X, Control Center is accessed by swiping down from the top of the device.

In Control Center on all devices, there are two new informational pop-ups that are displayed when using the Wi-Fi or Bluetooth toggles. These pop-ups explain that Bluetooth and Wi-Fi are disabled temporarily rather than permanently when accessed from the Control Center.

iOS 11.2 introduces a new Sports section in the dedicated TV app, which offers up access to live sports games through integration with the ESPN app. The Sports app can be accessed through a new "Sports" tab at the bottom of the app, and it offers up custom content based on team preferences and current sports seasons.

There are multiple bug fixes in the update, including a fix for an animation bug in the Calculator app that caused some numbers and symbols to be ignored when entered in rapid succession. The update removes the animations from the calculator app so calculations can be done quickly with no need to pause between entering numbers to obtain the correct result.

The update also addresses a date bug that caused continual crashing in iOS 11.1.2 after December 2. The problem was linked to local notifications, and according to a support document, it is fixed in iOS 11.2. iPhone and iPad users experiencing this bug should turn off notifications and then install iOS 11.2.

Other new features in iOS 11.2 include redesigned camera emojis and other emoji tweaks, a new loading animation for Live Photos effects, and Live wallpapers for the iPhone X. For developers, the update introduces a new feature that allows them to offer new customers discounted introductory pricing for auto-renewable subscriptions in the App Store. Full release notes for the update are available below:For more details on the iOS 11 operating system, make sure to check out our dedicated roundup.

Update: We're seeing several reports that Apple Pay Cash is not available in the release version of iOS 11.2. Given that this update was released at an unusual time, it may not be activated as of yet. It's likely we'll see Apple Pay Cash become available early next week.

I don’t have any live wallpaper at all after update. And my screen was frozen following the update for about ten minutes!?
