Great for you. I have to disable Wi-Fi on a daily basis while on FaceTime calls because since iOS 11 it won’t cleanly transition from low Wi-Fi signal to LTE. Now it’s just more work to enable and disable Wi-Fi.
If you hard press the Settings app, you can select WiFi, it’s barely more work than toggling from the CC.

Apple can’t please everyone at the same time; if 80% of users benefit from the new behavior, it was a good change, right? Hundreds of millions of people saving money not burning cellular data by mistake, vs. slightly less convenience for some, sometimes.

Bricked mine as well. Got immediate notice. Tried Reset FaceID, that didn't work. Then rebooted, reset my Face ID and now it seems to work. Though I believe I'm now reset so the phone has to lean my face again. Since I alternate between having glasses on and using contacts, I guess it will have to learn my face again. Oh well, pretty seamless process to educate the phone.

What a load of crap. Seriously shoddy software development....

Apple today released iOS 11.2, the second major update to the iOS 11 operating system available on the iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. iOS 11.2 comes a month after iOS 11.1, the first major update to iOS 11, and it follows several other smaller bug fix updates.

The iOS 11.2 update is available on all eligible devices over-the-air in the Settings app. To access the update, go to Settings --> General --> Software Update. Eligible devices include the iPhone 5s and later, the iPad mini 2 and later, the iPad Air and later, and the 6th-generation iPod touch.

iOS 11.2, as a major 11.x update, brings several new features and important bug fixes. It introduces Apple Pay Cash, Apple's peer-to-peer payments service. Apple Pay Cash works through the Messages app and is designed to allow for quick person-to-person money transfers, like Square Cash or Venmo.

You can quickly and easily send and receive money through iMessage conversations with Apple Pay Cash. Cash is sent from a linked debit or credit card, while received cash is stored in an Apple Pay Cash card in the Wallet app and can be used for purchases or transferred to a bank account. For more on Apple Pay Cash, check out our how to.

For the iPhone X, iPhone 8, and iPhone 8 Plus iOS 11.2 appears to introduce faster 7.5W wireless charging speeds through compatible Qi-based wireless charging accessories. At 7.5W charging speeds, the three new iPhones are able to charge faster wirelessly than with the standard 5W wired iPhone power adapter.

When it comes to the iPhone X interface, iOS 11.2 adds a small bar underneath the status bar icons located at the upper right side of the Lock screen, which is designed to make the location of the Control Center gesture more clear. On the iPhone X, Control Center is accessed by swiping down from the top of the device.

In Control Center on all devices, there are two new informational pop-ups that are displayed when using the Wi-Fi or Bluetooth toggles. These pop-ups explain that Bluetooth and Wi-Fi are disabled temporarily rather than permanently when accessed from the Control Center.

iOS 11.2 introduces a new Sports section in the dedicated TV app, which offers up access to live sports games through integration with the ESPN app. The Sports app can be accessed through a new "Sports" tab at the bottom of the app, and it offers up custom content based on team preferences and current sports seasons.

There are multiple bug fixes in the update, including a fix for an animation bug in the Calculator app that caused some numbers and symbols to be ignored when entered in rapid succession. The update removes the animations from the calculator app so calculations can be done quickly with no need to pause between entering numbers to obtain the correct result.

The update also addresses a date bug that caused continual crashing in iOS 11.1.2 after December 2. The problem was linked to local notifications, and according to a support document, it is fixed in iOS 11.2. iPhone and iPad users experiencing this bug should turn off notifications and then install iOS 11.2.

Other new features in iOS 11.2 include redesigned camera emojis and other emoji tweaks, a new loading animation for Live Photos effects, and Live wallpapers for the iPhone X. For developers, the update introduces a new feature that allows them to offer new customers discounted introductory pricing for auto-renewable subscriptions in the App Store. Full release notes for the update are available below:For more details on the iOS 11 operating system, make sure to check out our dedicated roundup.

Update: We're seeing several reports that Apple Pay Cash is not available in the release version of iOS 11.2. Given that this update was released at an unusual time, it may not be activated as of yet. It's likely we'll see Apple Pay Cash become available early next week.

[doublepost=1512324478][/doublepost]I just updated to 11.2 on my iPhone 7 Plus and DO NOT have ApplePay Cash on it... I've heard that some get it right away and others have seen it shown up later. Is there anyone here that has experienced this? Does it just show up at some point?

Apple Pay Cash (US Only...)

I'm inexperienced in banking politics. So my question is:
Why is Apple not founding a bank of its own? Apple presumably meets the necessary requirements and conditions...
This -Bank integrates seamlessly into the global banking system and has its own credit card. Then the banks have lost their defensive battles against innovation from one day to the next.
E.g.: -Pay still only works with a work-around in many European countries because the banks are ****-conservative and fearful. Apple "stay hungry, stay foolish" please.

American-centered reflections maintain others in your country ;-)

Founding a bank in what country? Apple is global, so to be a global bank it would mean Apple is under each country that it operates in bank regulations. So hard.

If you want a fully computerized bank solution that ignores all national boundaries, you can use cryptocurrency now. Just go buy some bitcoins.

All I hear is complaining. Does your phone make calls? Send texts? Recieve and send email? Browse safari? Boo hoo. Apple cash doesn’t work right away. I’m not seeing where all this whining is coming from. I have yet to have any bad experience on ios 11. I guess I’ll consider myself lucky.
You do not get to be the richest company in history for "making calls" and "sending texts and emails". Samsung can do that. OnePlus can do that. You get to enjoy that through consistent, reliable innovations.

They have been promising and promoting and bragging about Apple Pay Cash forever. It was supposed to come with iOS11. Nope. 11.1. Nope. 11.2 comes out, and "oh you'll get it Monday".

It's not whining; it's just getting, you know, what they keep promising.

I think you're misusing the word "bricking".

If a new iPad Mini comes out next year, I in but not going upgrade my Mini 2! Still works super fast on 7.2 iOS! Yes I lost about 50% my apps but just replace them with web browser or other competing apps that do not make you update the iOS!

That stupid bar signifying the control centre is stupid. Once you know how to access the control centre, you no longer need the bar. Then it becomes clutter.

I completely agree. IMO that's exactly why they did it. I need to temporarily turn off WIFI very frequently. Before ios11, I would almost always forget to turn it back on when I got home, and it really bugged me. I think the new behavior is brilliant.

I think people miss that purpose, and I believe people overestimate the amount of battery life consumed by leaving it on. Sending or receiving large amounts data through wifi or cellular consumes a lot of battery life, but the simple periodic check for available networks (when wifi is on but idle) is a pretty minimal hit on battery life.

BTW I wonder if anyone has considered the fact that this wifi/bluetooth control panel behavior has precedence (and consistency) with the Do Not Disturb control panel behavior, which has ALWAYS been a temporary toggle.

I do believe that a hard press option to choose either behavior, (or a settings preference for "Control Panel turns off wifi completely") would make a lot of people happy, though I personally wouldn't use it.

It would be cool if they could allow you to turn off WiFi when you leave home and then have it automatically turn on upon arrival home.

Is this tip (for hard press to select WiFi) just for certain devices? I tried this on my iPad Pro 12.9” Gen 2 and all I get is a floating of all Apps on the screen. Clarification, please, thank you.

iPads do not have 3D touch

Banking is a highly regulated entity and regulations vary greatly from country to country. In the US, for instance, it is difficult for a non-banking company to establish a banking subsidiary other than a limited purpose credit card issuer.

That was only for 3D Touch capable devices. You 3D Touch the settings app.

Are the Apple Pay Cash options missing from 11.2 for anyone else? I'm in the US and the option to enable it is missing. I've checked both in the Wallet and in Settings.

If every update brings new bugs and lag.
..what exactly is the benefit?!

I hear you, but a few points in response:

- The greatest number of bugs are typically introduced on major upgrades, such as from ios9 to ios10 etc (as is true for all large OS's)
- A lesser (but decent) number of bugs are typically introduced on all updates including significant new features, such as 11.1 to 11.2. But other bugs are fixed at the same time, so there's still some net down trending of outstanding bugs on these releases.
- The total number of outstanding significant bugs trend lower through each bug fix release release, such as from 11.1.1 to 11.1.2 etc.

Of course, these trends are the same for every developer of major operating systems,

- But these trend lines are never completely smooth and there WILL be some hiccups. One hiccup was this dec 2 bug, which was unusually painful for apple and the users affected by it. This hiccup, and the subsequently early release of 11.2 probably means that 11.2 is less solid than it would have been if it hadn't been rushed out at this time.

I think Apple was right to rush it out given the circumstances, but its probably a little riskier than usual.

My experience of IOS 11 thus far been very, very good, as it has for my friends. But I know that's not true for everybody. I do believe it will generally get better and better for most all of us.
