Can somebody explain to me why this is the 6th Generation iPad and the previous was a 5th Generation? I am genuinely confused. I know Apple's naming of the iPad has been the worst of all its products, but this is how i see it, where have i gone wrong?

First iPad = 1st Gen
iPad 2 = 2nd Gen
New iPad = 3rd Gen
iPad = 4th Gen (First one with lightning connector)
iPad Air = 5th Gen
iPad Air 2 = 6th Gen
iPad = 7th Gen
iPad = 8th Gen (New one announced this week).
You can try and remove the two Airs and see if the math adds up.

They cry when Apple releases buggy OSes too soon, and they cry when Apple releases (supposedly) fine-tuned beta-tested releases too late.

Let’s face it, the third iteration wasn’t really worthy of being called a generation, but rather a kick in the balls for those of us who would have waited for the superior 4th gen had we known it was only a few months away.

The iPad Air lineup is considered separate from the iPad lineup. Similar to how the iPad Pro lineup is separate.

So device fragmentation begins....and some said this would never happen with Apple products.

Happened already plenty of time in the past (most similar iOS 3.2 iPad only), you are probably very new to all of this but you can still search for past episode, in regards of your struggle to understand what fragmentation is I don't blame you, totally not your fault, you don't work for any IT giant, nor you have any expertise in the field so you are not expected to know jack about it.

I have been here longer than you...actually just being sarcastic. Of course, I know prior iOS releases have been iPad only etc.......thanks for your insight.

sarcasm....people....stop taking everything serious.

Why are we always wanting? Let’s be happy with this present moment and be grateful for the devices we have.

I won't whine about not having iOS 11.3 heck my 6s is still running 9.3.5 and works just fine.

I hope it's this week. My wife's iPad has been acting up and I figured a restore would help, so I want to wait for 11.3 to do this.

It makes sense to push 11.3 out today (thursday) cause my iPad arrives today. I guess 10am is the release time. I don‘t see them waiting till tomorrow (holiday) or next week with several new iPad‘s running 11.3 arriving today.

It makes perfect sense that 11.3 goes live today.
