I wonder what we'll see released a week before WWDC 2019?
I'm here reading the comments hoping to find that answer. I'm thinking about turning on Messages on the cloud on my iPhone and then deleting the messages on my iPad before turning on the feature to make sure I have a clean transition. What happens when you have different units. Iphones, computers, Ipads when syncing iMessages to iCloud? My units aren't perfectly synced today. Will the missing messages on each unit merge and sync into one complete version or will it sync the least complete unit and consider the missing messages as deleted? Im scared to turn it on if that could mean that I lose a lot of iMessages???
I have several iPhones, computers and Ipads with numbers in different countries. Hence the sync problems between units.
I have years of iMessages on my units and I definitely dont want to lose any of them.
Delete a message on one device and I should delete on the other device without having to do anythingSo i activated the feature on my ipad and my iphone
plugged them both on AC (saw the sync message) But I don<t see anything special. I already in a sense had all my imessage on both devices. So what am I suppose to see (to make sure it worked)?
I guess I am unclear on WHY messages in the cloud is SO important to folks. Anybody care to elaborate?
Should have been like this from day 1 of iMessage. I’m tired of half baked crap in the name of corporate kpi’s.Let’s say I delete a message on the iPhone, that deleted message will still be there on the Mac, so it’s annoying to have to delete messages on both devices. Messages in the cloud takes care of that problem.
It does for me! My info isn't worth squat to them. It all depends on how you have set up your info, your VPN, etc. All they really have is an email address and EVERYBODY has that. If you want to take it to that extent, then nothing on the internet is free.
Then the same can be said for MacRumors, or any other website that you had to register for. In that sense, I didn't pay for the entertainment or knowledge, so free to me. But I can see your point as well.If all you give is an email address, then yes, I suppose Facebook is free. The moment you start liking, commenting, or viewing content though, you are feeding the machine with tracking and aggregating data which they can use in any fashion. And yes, nothing is free, generally speaking...
Right. Not only that, features can be ready from a technical standpoint, but a myriad of other business reasons (strategic, financial, political, etc) can delay release of anything.Messages in Cloud and Airplay 2 are anything but tiny features, engineering-wise. Not defending Apple, but Messages is not "Hangouts", it's an end-to-end encrypted service, and Airplay is even worse. From the things I read (John Grubers "birdies"), they had serious technical problems with these things and it took quite a bit of effort to get them to work.
Okay, since that isn't a concern for me, not worried about enabling it on my devices.Let’s say I delete a message on the iPhone, that deleted message will still be there on the Mac, so it’s annoying to have to delete messages on both devices. Messages in the cloud takes care of that problem.
2FA doesn't work like that. It protects your account, so if you want to change sensitive settings such as passwords or if you want to login to iCloud.com on an unknown device you need to have your iPhone/iPad/Apple Watch to hand to receive a code.messages in iCloud though has been tied to having two factor authentication enabled which is a total pain in the ass so no thanks. i'm not interested in having to enter a passcode every time i pick up my ipod touch or ipad mini at home every 10 minutes or whatever. this whole hyper security era is quite annoying.
Apple’s release notes specifically say, “Your conversations continue to be end-to-end encrypted.”Do you know this and is it documented or are you guessing?
Hopefully messages will really sync on all devices with iCloud.I guess I am unclear on WHY messages in the cloud is SO important to folks. Anybody care to elaborate?
You haven't seen text and picture analysis services. That stuff is advanced and it's getting crazier by the day. They can build a marketing profile on you no matter how much or little you share and regardless if you are using a VPN. On top of that, they can track mouse moves, mouse hovers, etc. Just browsing the site allows them to see how long you view a particular posts and now they know you enjoy baseball. It does for me! My info isn't worth squat to them. It all depends on how you have set up your info, your VPN, etc. All they really have is an email address and EVERYBODY has that. If you want to take it to that extent, then nothing on the internet is free.
And what is the cost of that to the user?If all you give is an email address, then yes, I suppose Facebook is free. The moment you start liking, commenting, or viewing content though, you are feeding the machine with tracking and aggregating data which they can use in any fashion. And yes, nothing is free, generally speaking...
People should probably be grateful it was only 1 year.Previewed at WWDC 2017 and released the week before WWDC 2018. The new Apple.
Apple might not be implementing something like that at all.Could MacRumors clarify (like The Verge) that Messages in iCloud stores and syncs both blue iMessages and green SMS?
And with this cloud sync as the first step, how soon before Apple can implement Messages on the icloud.com web portal? Any hint in the betas?
It hasn’t been delayed yet as far as I’ve heard. The announced timeframe was only sometime in 2018. Seven more monthsOn that topic, where is Airpower? And the wireless charging AirPods case, with the light on the outside? Where is it? Apple? Hello?
I mean normally I defend Apple when they delay stuff. Like the messages in iCloud, or the original AirPods. But this little charger just baffles me
Again, not knowing what you're talking about. iCloud Messages was released today. He's referring to messages being in backups, PERIOD.
Yes, messages are included in backups through iTunes, you cannot turn that off. With your settings, they are NOT backed up to iCloud but will be in ANY backup you do through iTunes.
Messages in the Cloud is confusing and so is AirPlay 2 is too Lol.
I’d rather just not use iCloud Music Library, iCloud Photo Library or iCloud Messages.
It pushes (like pop) ... it doesn’t syncMy iMessages already sync across all my devices. It’s worked like that for years.
Go 2FA else I steal yo bitcoinsmessages in iCloud though has been tied to having two factor authentication enabled which is a total pain in the ass so no thanks. i'm not interested in having to enter a passcode every time i pick up my ipod touch or ipad mini at home every 10 minutes or whatever. this whole hyper security era is quite annoying.
