Hey Apple, never mind download and install toggles, how about you reactivate 3D Touch on my X?

You know, the one you sneakily deactivated via firmware (despite my once flagship phone having the required hardware) in "upgrading" me to iOS 13, and replacing it with vastly inferior "haptic touch" just to have consistency for lower common denominator models.

Almost a year on and that still p***es me off on a regular basis.

The iOS and iPadOS 13.6 updates are available on all eligible devices over-the-air in the Settings app.

Uh, nope. You absolutely cannot update your phone without an external WiFi connection. I have unlimited bandwidth over 4G, but there is no way I can make iOS understand that.

Third world OS.
Yeah it's very frustrating that you aren't allowed to perform iOS updates and more critically, backups via cellular data, when you have large or unlimited allowances. I get the whole "network stability" argument but surely it's up to the user to act with common sense and utilise only when stationary with a strong signal? Times when I've wanted/needed to back up my phone on the go.

Of course, the workaround is to put your phone's nano SIM in a mobile wifi mini-router and connect phone via wifi (Apple servers recognise the router configuration as wifi, hence the "fan" symbol appears not the hotspot interlinked rings) but that's a hassle, a bit fiddly and of course, takes your actual phone function offline if you need to make/receive calls, so best left for overnight.

People on forums such as this mostly know what involved and what risks exist but not the general public user community and since Apple gets sued if a box is not straight on a shelf in one of their stores.
If Apple allowed this and something happened lawyers would cheer with joy for all the lawsuits.

nice! This will be a welcomed feature. I didn’t know they were even planning on implementing this.

how do you access it?

Just a reminder that Apple doesn’t pay attention to these forums. They have a feedback page on their website:

Which 3D Touch features have you lost? AFAIK, when you push hard on an app icon or something on the control centre, on a 3D Touch capable iPhone, it performs the way it used to, you don’t have to wait half a second like people with iPhone 11 and so.

let me know what am I missing because I’m looking forward to updating to iOS 13 with this version (if battery life is acceptable) from my current iOS 12 version.

Pretty sure 3D Touch still works in iOS 13.

I was hoping this would fix the overheating issues, but sadly, it’s still present on 13.6

I have updated to 13.6 on my iPhone 8 and tried both 3D Touch and Haptic Touch.

Both work as expected across every app I tested:

3D Touch: Hard press pops up the menu right away
Haptic touch: Menu pops up after a short interval

The difference is noticeable--3D Touch is instant, Haptic Touch has a very slight pause, but it's pretty small. I love 3D Touch, but Haptic Touch is not dramatically worse IMO.

I’m 🤔 going back to 13.6 I’m currently on iOS 14 beta and I’m not able to connect to wifi at certain places after I installed iOS 14

I just want them to upgrade the darn keyboard, it is so bad on my XS Max, it's almost unusable. I ordered a Samsung S20 Ultra last night but cancelled the order in hopes that iPhone 12 will have a little bit wider screen and improved keyboard.

Too bad they didn't update the emojis to keep in sync.

Debating if I should downgrade from iOS 14 PB2 to iOS 13.
Why would you? Having issues with iOS 14? I was going to give the beta a spin instead of updating to 13.6

You need to find an 'update partner', ie, any other smartphone (or tablet with cellular modem) that can act as a hotspot.

No it doesn't at all. Perhaps there should be an opt out from Apple's protection. Funny how they were not so concerned about our welfare when knowingly flogging defective keyboards for 4 years.
Because either Apple covers 100% of potential issues or what is the point in them trying?

Does anybody have information if the Corona-API which was introduced in IOS 13.5 has seen any improvements/fixes in 13.6? And in relation, does anybody know if the new IOS 12.4.8 also supports the Corona-API now?
The FAQ on Github for the German Corona tracing app lists two error messages that supposedly will be fixed with 13.6 or the next iOS update. If 12.4.8 would also support the API, I'm pretty sure we would have heard about it by now.
