Ever since iOS 16.4 and now 16.4.1 I wake up and it says photos used 1h+ backround activity, is this normal? I thought it would be just one night but its literally every night, is it chrcking for dupes every night?

Home Pod playing my music match library has become quite glitchy with new update. It was fine previously. Irritated!
— later, unplug & replug of home pod seems to have resolved the issue. Perhaps not software after all.

Apple today released iOS 16.4.1, a minor update to the iOS 16 operating system that first came out last September. iOS 16.4.1 is a bug fix update that comes almost two weeks after the launch of iOS 16.4, an update that introduced new Emoji, Safari Web Push notifications, Voice Isolation for phone calls, and more.

‌iOS 16‌‌.4.1 can be downloaded on eligible iPhones over-the-air by going to Settings > General > Software Update.

According to Apple's release notes, iOS 16.4.1 add a fix for an issue that could cause Siri not to respond in some cases, and it adds skin tones variations for the pushing hands emoji.Apple is already testing iOS 16.5, a follow up to iOS 16, and the company will soon transition to working on iOS 17, the next-generation version of iOS that is expected to see an introduction at WWDC in June.

I’ll wait to install this update as all these updates are always prefaced by “serious” & “important”…and seem to be very poorly vetted for problems/issues. Just look, they’re already working on 16.5 to fix this one. Funny how they make them sound as if your phone will definitely be hacked or compromised if you don’t update when in fact you have a better chance of being struck by lightning.

Kinda makes you wonder why Apple doesn’t allow the user (or prompt during iOS setup/data transfer/restore) the option to select their default skin tone?! That would be so much simpler wouldn’t it?!

but then you would be stuck with your skin tone permanently

I think it’s just because there was a vulnerability being actively exploited.
Honestly, I think it's because the iOS 16.4 update was a train wreck. I suspect the update that got pushed wasn't the correct version. It broke too many things and overrode too many preference settings. So they rushed out 16.4.1 - which may have been what 16.4 was supposed to be. All of my preference settings were back. We'll probably never know the truth but I think I'm very close to it.

Just an observation. I think HomeKit does not play well with other home softwares. One example, Sonos and HomeKit do not play nicely On the speaker side. Have to pick one or the other. Best to remove any that are not being used.
It’s Phillips Hue, Ecobee, AppleTV, and HomePod/Mini. None of them are functioning properly and keep jumping between rooms randomly. Or Siri asks me to wait a moment and then just naps.

I had a problem with HomeKit when I upgraded my iPhone and iPad. Turns out the issue was that the new versions of iOS use a new HomeKit framework. I lost all the automations and it just said that the home hub was paused. I found that the issue was that my home hubs (my Apple TVs and my HomePods) were using the old HomeKit system. Updating my HomePods and AppleTVs fixed the problem and it works better than ever. See the HomeKit forum on MacRumors. I’ll edit this answer to include the link on how to update your home hubs.

They’re all updated, so my patience is running short

If all those are active at the same time, I would do my best to pick one.

Yeah, usually that’s how life goes right? Lol.

How variable is your skin tone from birth until you’re old? 😜 - odd I still cannot change many emoji’s to my own skin tone.
Yep. Apparently “yellow face” is just fine. Honestly makes zero sense.

It's time to start a #CookMustGo , not only is Apple destroying our devices with substandard software which causes battery drain and over heating , the overall quality , hardware and software of Apple Products has gone to Sh*t.

I am just gonna delete my Home and start over from scratch, I've tried everything I could find. It's my last option before chucking it all out the window
My sympathies. I’ve been there before over my decades working with computers.

Are they gonna fix HomeKit? It's still broken for me. I am spending this weekend starting over from scratch because my basement TV now gets turned on if I ask to turn on my third story bedroom.

Half my kitchen lights are labeled correctly as Kitchen, but turn on when I ask to turn on the Den.

HomeKit can't make up its mind if I have an Ecobee thermostat or not, despite the thermostat being in Home App. Asking Siri five times to change the temperature is annoying, and even more frustrating is having to take five minutes to go up and down the stairs to manually change the temp. Not something a cripple wants to have to do after spending money on smart devices for convenience. It's annoying to have to crutch up and down the stairs. The Home App won't let me change anything, I'll set it to 64 H and it'll not change anything. Ecobee App crashes when I open it, working on that with Ecobee.

Also, I do not have an Automation for arriving home, but I get a random Billboard Top 20 that plays whenever I get home.
Not only do I not like Taylor Swift, I would use her CDs at a skeet shoot.

And lastly, Siri keeps asking me to unlock my iPhone again to tell me what time it is, or what the weather is. I'm not asking for much here, folks.
I haven't used HK in a while

I 've been usng Google and Alexa for home stuff tbh
For some reason I can only pair 1 of my 4 LIFX products to Homekit - I tried and tried and did every troubeshooting uner the sun, no dice

No problem setting all 4 of them on Google and Alexa, and they don't ask for that stupud HK number

I take back my complaints on HomeKit. I will never use GoogleHome ever again, that was a disaster.

Found the issue. I had setup an AppleTV in my guest room for a friend back in October. When she abruptly left, I forgot it was there. For some reason, HomeKit changed it to the HomeHub (as she was home all day, I guess?). How do I make one of the AppleTVs (say, my Den that I use everyday) the PERMANENT HomeHub regardless of whether it is offline?

Cool. I found this thread but haven’t tested it or read the entire thread.
