Does it matter how you hold it while updating?
And hey, "bricking" used to just mean a blank screen, now it flashes!
My SE1 to 15.7 update (from 15.6.1) is doing SOMETHING. It says it is downloading, but there is not much evidence of that, except AMPDevicesAgent is downloading a lot of stuff. This phone doesn't have anything on it. I thought ADA was a synchronizing thing? Just the basics and no SIM card. ???
I hope you have an iCloud backup (nearly everyone does). This means you can always restore a phone from a backup, and you won't lose important data.
You don't have a backup? Is that your fault?

Only 2 years of pictures? That's not too bad. You should search for the word "iCloud backup".

You learn by your mistakes, as they say. But you can't really blame Apple for being that foolish.

What mathiasdk1 said was fact. It was a bad descion not to have backups and the person had plenty of choices between Apple’s built in backup or a third party solution which you can download on the Apple App Store.
It’s been a while but I’m pretty sure turning on iCloud backup is the default option for new device setup and they would have to explicitly tell it not to right?
It's possible you do have an iCloud backup then. You'll want to do a restore from iCloud once you get your phone working again.
I decided to skip 16 for now and download 15.7, which I did, successfully. Unfortunately now I'm unable to download any app store updates. I get a message saying the "media terms" have changed, the new terms and conditions load, I click "Agree" and I get an error message and the cycle repeats.
We all have this problem. Why Apple couldn’t wait to push a terms update is beyond me. It’s like they’re begging for issues.

As long has iCloud was enabled, everything should be fine.
Is your iPhone the only Apple device you own?
It’s likely because the OS updates change in some way how the devices access the store enough to change the terms and require the user to sign the updated terms
I am pretty sure. But what causes most people not to have a backup, is that they run out of the free space. Then they won't/can't pay the 1USD/month to have enough storage. That's my dad until recently I told him how cheap it was.
I have iOS 16 downloaded but I’m too nervous to update after reading here and Reddit. It currently is asking for 50% battery so it won’t auto start for the moment. How can I cancel? Delete the download maybe?
Edit: I deleted the iOS 16 download. Maybe I should just wait until my new phone comes on Friday lol. Not worth the stress of a broken phone.

I am wondering if one of Apple’s systems that records acceptance of terms of conditions is currently down since that might explain why you can not get past the screen when you accept the terms and get a generic something went wrong error please try again later message.
