I guess the folks who are shocked about the wait list have not checked out this site at all before today. It has been known for months that you would have to use the wait list to get the AI features that are available.
True, but the whole thing has been an odd user experience.

"Get the new iPhone 16, it has Apple Intelligence!"
*Get's iPhone 16 - where's the AI stuff?
"Oh...you need to wait for iOS 18.1!"
*Downloads 18.1 - where's the AI stuff?
"Oh...you need to join the waitlist!"
*Joins waitlist

I was aware of the waitlist, but I figured it was just something during the betas to help control how many people were using it...and that it'd just simply be a toggle to turn it on/off in the final release. For me, joining the waitlist started downloading it right away, so is there really a so-called "waitlist"? Why not just say "Download Apple Intelligence" instead?

Joined the waitlist, waiting...
Notice that it still says "Beta" on the Apple Intelligence & Siri logo

It’s a really terrible glaring fact that most of what’s been released today can’t be used on 90 percent of iPhones out there right now. And that’s not something to be proud of Apple. It shows how far behind they were that suddenly so many new features will never be experienced by users till the get the latest and greatest. In a world where the average person updates every 3 years….

Still waiting on NY - been over 40 mins 1 No AI.

Do you have to turn on Beta Updates?
Is your phone connected to Wi-Fi? It needs to download the Apple Intelligence feature and will not do it over cellular.

No. I joined the waitlist maybe an hour ago on my Mac Studio and there was an update (red dot on my settings icon) within 15 minutes. I didn't have to join the waitlist when I updated my MacBook Pro as I had already joined on the Studio. According to the Maybook Pro, it is now 'preparing'.

I didn't join any beta at all.

Still waiting on my iPhone and iPad as I never do OTA updates and the full update through Finder is still not active yet from what I can tell.

Yes it is on WiFi - and ai was not a beta tester. My phone was set to UK English language but Region was US. After changing the language, it allowed me to join the waitlist. But no update yet.

You can turn it to US English. Just a few improperly spelt US words is all you’ll have to deal with really.

Well, if they let us use it at all outside of the US that is…

I’m in Canada and joined the wait list but it does say it may check your serial for eligibility.

*edit* I was accepted. Just turn on US English.
I’m in Canada too…still waiting. Starting to second guess why I upgraded from a 15PM to the 16PM 😓

I really don't know what's going on here in the UK! I was on 18.1 RC or so I thought, now my 16pro is showing a further 18.1 update at around 365mb. Pffft!

I think I might go to the pub until this all blows over.🍺
The RC isn't always the same as the final release. What was released today is a newer build than the RC.

Anyone else having trouble getting the new Siri animation to work? My device still uses the old version with the orb.

EDIT: My god, you can't use English (Canada), loooool. Okay then, i switched it to USA

Double Edit: You need to join a waitlist!? Come on...
I know right? …joined and still waiting 😅 wishing anyone outside of the US best of luck with Apple Iidiocy!

I am still not seeing the update from macOS side, syncing my iPhone. Does anyone know if the IPSWs are released yet?

This entire rollout is pathetic. On top of the tens of millions of devices that can't even run any of this, Apple thinks everyone who has a year old phone is gonna just run out and get a new device....to get on a wait list.

so, 3-4 "new" AI features ("new" because Microsoft Copilot and ChatGPT have had these and a thousand more things for over a year) and they are available only for US users? Same for Airpods, what about the rest of the world!! cmon this really sucks! be honest!

This. I find it very strange that all the hype to release 18.1 has resulted in someone needing to opt into the Apple Intelligence features. A lot of “hurry up and wait” coming from Apple with this launch.
