It totally mystifies me why there is still no way to view Genre Albums in the iPad iPod app. The feature has been in the iPhone forever and I just assumed it was left out in the initial rush to get the iPad out the door, but it's not there 3 OS revs later. Annoys the heck out of me.

To some people the Avett Bros. are folk, some alt-country, others just plain old country. So unless you maintain your own categories, genre is kind of the ugly stepchild of selection criteria.

iOS 4.3 spotlight: iTunes Home Sharing

how does this work with a iphone 4 & itunes on my mac?

thx,

CMDA iPhone

Just recently switched over to a Verizon iPhone 4 a few days ago, and must say that reception and internet speeds are much snappier over the last few days on a different carrier (we live in a poor AT&T coverage area, but have been iPhone owners since 2007).

My question is does anyone believe the Carrier Update we got through Verizon a few days ago is a precursor to allowing us to be able to upgrade to 4.3 by Friday. I wouldn't see the need for a Carrier Update on an advanced timeline other then to get ready for a 4.3 release for the CDMA version. I hate to see Apple become fragmented like Android.

Just a thought, congrats to those that get to suck up 4.3 early!

Downloading it now for the iPad. That will be used for the Home Sharing options. Sweet to access my whole iTunes library. :D

Not going to update the iPhone just yet. Still like my jailbeak for MyWi.

*** if you are at "home" on your network wifi ***

Yes, I didn't add that part - home usually implies that you have to be at home on your home network, but who knows what these yahoos are thinking.

As an aside, for my own personal use home sharing is not all that it's cracked up to be on the iphone. I'm sure someone will find it useful, I just hope that this is one step towards being able to stream our libraries to our device regardless of where we are.

I doubt a carrier update has anything to do with the next firmware update.
Not sure when 4.3 is coming out for the CDMA iphone.
Hope not too long.

I posted this above but quick repeat. Go into Settings on your phone. Go to iPod settings. Fill in under "home sharing" the Apple ID and password associated with the iTunes account on your Mac. Then go to the iPod app on your iPhone. Select "more," lower right side of screen. Now "Shared" will show up in the list. Select it. Select your Mac from the list. iTunes has to be running on your Mac for home sharing to work.

I didn't know if a carrier update had anything to do with it or not, just was curious as when it popped up if this would allow better integration with 4.3 because of the baseband.

I'm with you, hope not too long. Being an iPhone user since its inception, would be tough to swallow not having the latest greatest update as soon as it comes out.

edge data on T-Mobile

does anyone know if I can set up Personal Hotspot to be able to share my IP4's edge data?
I'd rather not call T-Mobile at all.

That IMO is really it's only useful feature that is missing. If I am at home, why not just use remote?

One helpful feature however is that you can use it on iPad w/movies, so you don't have to sync it up just to watch a movie. But, as we all know Airplay does that already.

So honestly, I don't get all the fuss and glamor of it.

It's kind of cheesy ATT wants us to pay extra for tethering to use personal hotspot, especially if you switched to a capped data plan. Sharing the 3G connection w/ laptops, iPads, etc., will just lead to more data use = more revenue for them when you go over your plan cap. Whereas having to play upfront for tethering AND the 2+2GB data plan, that will put a lot of people off bothering with it.

Works like gangbusters on my 3GS iPhone, Strangely, it will not let me upgrade my daughters 3G ipod touch. I will try again later.

The Home share feature works great!! Since I do not see using my iPad outside my house, there is no reason to get anything bigger than 16G, as I can stream my entire media library to the iPhone and iPad (once I get it of course...) This works much better than the 3rd party streaming apps I tried and discarded.

Okay people, don't even bother trying to download 4.3 using the POS iTunes since it will time out. Use a browser with a download manager like Opera and use the direct links.

Typically carrier updates are so that the phone works better on the network, or unlock features that the carrier didn't support at the time of release, rarely is it a precursor to anything.

If you want reference, let's look at when MMS messaging was enabled on 3.0 for users outside of the US (basically not on ATT). The OS had the support but the carrier information in the phone did not. ATT released a carrier update almost a year later that enabled that feature.

Well, the main thing here is if you don't have an Airplay device like ATV as part of your stereo system, or you want to use headphones and listen via iPhone or iPad, you can't do that with Remote. With Remote you can Airplay to an Airplay-capable home theater setup, but you can't Airplay to an iPhone or iPad.

No update available for me yet..... maybe its just a USA update seeing as local sports have been added? I'd think the UK and rest of the world would need an update though for the improved Airplay....?

Apple TV update has just hit my ATV2 in the UK yey!

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_3 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8F190 Safari/6533.18.5)

How do you do a Ping "like" from the now playing screen. I don't see this option.

Is it normal for it to take over an hour?

I have an iPod Touch 4th gen and a brand new 2010 Macbook Pro on speedy FiOS WiFi

Should I cancel and start it again?

Sweet, iPhone 4 support for the HDMI adapter. I am definetly going to buy one of those when they become available.

You will have to be JB and unlocked on the latest 4.3 firmware on your iphone 4.
Then install tetherme or other patches that might soon come out.
Just hold on till its ready.
I doubt you'd be able to do it on stock 4.3 on a factory unlocked i4 on Tmobile USA.

Should I really be that upset because I didn't get the 4.3 update on Verizon? Is there going to make that much difference for me to not have this update?
