Installed 5.0.1 and my battery is continuing to drain down to nothing at speed with no apps open and almost everything switched off.

I'm returning it tomorrow. :(

Installing right now. Have to say that this is a much nicer process than having to wait until I get home and then downloading the whole iOS to update.

If you have Cydia on your iPad, then it is jailbroken. I haven't been JB for several months now, but I recall reading that OTA updates don't work on jailbroken devices. You will have to do a restore in iTunes.

That's the rub, see there's no Cydia on the iPad in question, because no jail breaking was supposed to happen. Just enabling multitasking (and mirroring). But you don't install Cydia during the operation. I got this advice from Lifehacker myself, who claimed that there was no jailbreak. Now, am I jailbroken or not?

In any case, OTA will not work if you did this multi gesture hack on the iPad 1.

Let me get this straight, you want Apple to provide you with caller ID when you don't subscribe to caller ID?

No.

There is a caller ID issue in iOS 5 with specific Middle Eastern countries (for me specifically Kuwait).

Country code of Kuwait is +965.

If we store a number in our address book as say Joe and his saved number is +965 5555 5555.

Like in previous iterations of iOS if Joe called you inside the country it would only need to register 5555 5555 when the call is coming in. However iOS5 thinks +965 5555 5555 AND 5555 5555 are completely different numbers so it does not display the name of the contact calling.

This has been documented in the following places:

Are there any potential issues with doing the ota update and not having the update file on your computer. If there is a problem with the phone at some time in the future and a restore is needed what would happen?

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; CPU iPhone OS 5_0_1 like Mac OS X) AppleWebKit/534.46 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.1 Mobile/9A405 Safari/7534.48.3)

Battery life still draining super fast. Dropped 8% in an hour.

Time to go to Apple and let them run a diagnostic. No sense waiting any longer.

Tell me about it, I don't have Wifi here at work so I'm stuck with iTune and downloading the whole 800mb+ file --- FAIL

You will get the full ipsw file if done through iTunes.

Any improvements to the horrible music app on iPad? I'm surprised it hasn't been mentioned at all yet, not optimistic they fixed anything.

I very much doubt it uses the GPS. It is probably just using the Location Services.

For programs that don't need as accurate positioning as the GPS can give, Location Services can give coarse locations using the cellular network and/or WiFi base stations. This consumes almost no battery at all, since tracking of base stations is done anyway.

I have heard of no confirmed case where switching off the automatic time zone switching has actually helped. I consider that as just a rumor.

Yes but it is an issue as the location services icon is on all the time. Thats not correct. This is obviously a bug which hasn't been fixed.

#disappointed

Not looking good. Updated OTA in the UK, and switched back on the Setting Time Zone in the Location Services.

This is now being indicated by a purple arrow, and I am dropping 1% battery life every 10 minutes with no activity at all.

Come on Apple

This is horrible! What happened to my adequate battery life? Since updating, I'm losing 1% per minute while just using Safari!

How exactly are people freakin judging battery performance 10 minutes after installing the update? Of course, after an install everything will be faster and better! The whole damn thing just installed, rebooted, cleared caches etc. Just wait a day or two then post your findings.

...but if you wait a day or two you won't be one of the first to say it really did fix the bug.

As I've been saying since Beta 1... this will do NOTHING for the battery life of the device. It is due to the more aggressive hardware only.

Either accept the fact that with increased speed you will decrease battery life, or go buy an old Blackberry.

This patch is for two things, 1. make the media happy as it seems like Apple is paying attention. 2. Fix holes to keep a jailbreak from being released.

SUCKAS!!!

As it is checking your location all the time, to be prepared to switch time zone, of course it is using the location services all the time. When the location services are in use, the arrow is there. The arrow doesn't necessarily mean that there is battery drainage. There is only battery drainage when the GPS is actually used, and there is no visual way to tell if it is.

This is not a bug, this is by design.

(Though I would want it to also indicate if the GPS is in use or not, maybe with a red arrow when the GPS is in use or something like that.)

Doesn't explain the poor battery life on the iPhone 4 since iOS 5.0 (Same hardware)
