Anyone else noticing the location services indicator is on permanently - the time zone setting is using it.

Try going to Settings>Location Services>System Services (at the very bottom)>Status Bar Icon. If that is ON, then the location services icon will be omnipresent, since the Setting Time Zone option always tracks your location (I find that a little creepy, so I have it off anyway).

Doesn't explain the poor battery life on the iPhone 4 since iOS 5.0 (Same hardware)

There have been far fewer reports of this problem, my guess is people disabled a ton of things early on, forgot, updated, started new, reset all their defaults, now the battery life is worse than it was before.

...or rather, now they're just paying attention in greater detail, where as before, they just subconsciously accepted the battery performance without any real notice.

In general, us humans are pretty stupid beings. :D

wasn't this update supposed to fix battery?

Running on iPad 2 and after the update my battery starts to drOp considerably faster. 1% per 5 minutes while browsing the web.

I was fine on iOS 4 (iPhone 4) for 1-2 days on a charge, however after updating to iOS 5 my battery has been drained by about 5:00 PM after being unplugged around 8AM the same day. In my opinion this isn't with any significantly more usage than I was using before I updated.. We'll see, hopefully this update helps with this too, otherwise I'll have to stop by the Apple store.

Can someone experiencing battery issues download 'System Status Lite' from the App Store and check to see what the CPU load is running at?

I had a problem with iOS 5 where Calendar notifications in Notification Center would constantly redraw when I had certain meeting invites that I hadn't responded to. My CPU was running at 80% and the iPhone 4S would get noticeably hot. I turned off Calendar notifications and it returned to normal and my battery life was back to where it should be.

There may be other issues at play here but your CPU should be idling around 5% in System Status Lite - if not something is running amok and it may be worth checking various settings to determine which one is causing the CPU to spike.

No.

There is a caller ID issue in iOS 5 with specific Middle Eastern countries (for me specifically Kuwait).

Country code of Kuwait is +965.

If we store a number in our address book as say Joe and his saved number is +965 5555 5555.

Like in previous iterations of iOS if Joe called you inside the country it would only need to register 5555 5555 when the call is coming in. However iOS5 thinks +965 5555 5555 AND 5555 5555 are completely different numbers so it does not display the name of the contact calling.

This has been documented in the following places:

What if you enter both numbers for Joe? Not the best solution but it should work with either situation.

This is factually incorrect.

Issues still seem imminent

While I have't been able to do a full day battery test, I can still say that after the update the battery on my 64GB 4S went from 42% to 27% in under an hour with minimal use. But again... a full fair test would be to see how it performs though a full day from 100% charge.

Mine swings between 3 and 11% when idle, average load flattening around 1 for 1 and 5 minutes, 0.64 for 15 minutes.
With 5.0.1 beta2, I reached 6-7 hours of usage (even though a lot of standby time was counted as usage), overall almost 2 days of moderate usage, switching it off from 11pm to 8am.

I can't get wifi until I get home, but I brought up the software update screen and now Spotlight has stopped working. I take it Spotlight is the culprit for poor battery performance and it's disabled until I update it?

Since I'm not experiencing any battery issues with my 4S I'll wait a few days to apply this update so the rest of you that have real problems have the best speeds updating your devices. Yes, I'm just that kind of guy. :)

That is in line with how Apple says the battery is supposed to be doing. 9 hrs on 3g and 10 hrs on Wifi (or 1% per 5.4 minutes on 3G and 1% per 6 minutes on Wifi).

I'm in a conference so I can't test this... but can someone with a 4S give this a try: Activate Siri from the lock screen by holding the home button. Say any command or sentence. When Siri is done talking, press the home button again and unlock your phone. Is the volume of the unlock sound (and all other sounds) still ridiculously loud immediately after using Siri? This bug has been annoying me for almost a month.

It is still wide open volume. Perhaps 5.0.2 or 5.1

iPhone 4, full restore to 5.0.1 and the following settings:

Location Services - Off.
iCloud - On (Contacts and Mail only).
Mail Push - Off.
Bluetooth - Off.
Brightness - Full.
Restrictions - On (Ping switched off).
Spotlight Search - Off.

iPhone was fully charged and then Street Fighter IV Volt installed.

Done a quick test, but after six minutes of play, I returned to the home screen and my battery indicator still reads 100%.

So it's definitely improved on the iPhone 4.

New forum member... and iPhone user.

I just upgraded my 4s to 5.0.1 and now incoming calls show up with numbers only... not the names in my contacts! Ughh. Also- it appears that the phone numbers in the contacts don't have dashes in them... I thought they had them before... not sure.

I deleted all contacts and imported them again from gmail (via iTunes) and it's the same... very annoying!!!

Anyone see this too?
