Actually, it is. You see, I was smart enough to start my own successful business, so I can not only work where I please, but also afford new-fangled, fancy things like wireless routers. It's funny. There's this thing called currency. You work for it, then you can buy products that other people work to make.

"Products" in this case includes wireless routers.

I didn't realize that is was a bad thing to make less money to work for the government and defend your country. I also don't think this is the place to question somebodies intelligence. Sorry for being in the military so that you may have the luxury of your life style. Hope you have a fine Veterans weekend!

I did mine at 2PM central time and it worked beautifully, what an ota software update should be. I almost feel bad for suffering Androud users.

This update did the exact opposite for my iPhone, it made my battery worse. It's now dropping 1% every three minutes. I'm pissed.

You should do it on any battery - its good practice.

The same advice applies to your MBP as your iPhone.

Exactly. I've had my (white :D0) 4S since day one.

5.0.1 has NOT helped my battery issues.

This should not need to be done on a phone that is a few weeks old!

My MBP came with a calibrated battery. Why isn't my iphone battery calibrated?

poppycock!

FYI I did an OTA update at 12:30 CST today. Initial impression is battery is a little worse.

Gotta calibrate your battery after. Drain it out then fill er up. My battery was worse after the update too.

Multitouch gestures back on the iPad 1 - THANK. GOD. Removing them was the worst thing Apple had ever done to me.

+1 it's better than before

I'm at 80% right now with moderate to high usage (browsing, listening to music w/out headphones, facebooking)

Usage: 2 hours, 30 minutes
Standby: 2 hours, 41 minutes

5.0.1 update, battery life seems worse since update

Updated to 5.0.1 today OTA. The OTA update went smooth. So far it seems battery life is actually worse with 5.0.1. My battery drained 20% in one hour of normal/light use. Not happy with this update at all!

I'm not sure they rolled this update out by country, but rather by device ID. I saw the OTA update on my iPhone just after 10am, but my iPad did not get for about another hour later, and when I told my buddy about it he told me he already had it installed on his iPad.

Perhaps they were just staging the first couple of hours of the release to avoid traffic on their servers.

this stupid update hasn't fixed anything. My battery life is still horrendous. On top of that, the past few weeks the usage meter is all wrong. Ill have my phone sitting there doing nothing and it'll still report that as usage. theres something clearly going on in the background while its just sitting there.

i have a 3gs and the battery is worse now than before the update.

i am running 5.0.1 now and before was 5.0.

i thought the update was going to improve battery life.

oh well.

Just did. Side by side test with a 32-4 and a 64-4s. The 4 had 2x the battery time.

4
48 min use
52 min sb

4s
24 use
38 sb

Both drained to 90% from full.

Regarding the reason for Apple forcing WiFI updates, I would guess that the carriers are scared of what would happen if they push out a sizeable OTA update over 3G to all iPhones (there are a LOT of em!) at once (read: The network might choke in high traffic areas).

Pure speculation on my part, but it´s the reason that makes the most sense.

Sadly, I think we are the only ones that go and check for updates often. Most other users will probably be prompted after the phones has downloaded the update in the background. Maybe Apple is gauging the load to their servers before allowing OTA over 3G updates in the future.

Amen - thanks from one Vet to another!

I'm thinking the same thing my 3GS was perfect. I wish I never sold it and got the 4s now im thinking I should have got the gs2. The 4s is so boring with out a jailbreak. Apple needs to wise up. Most of the stuff I jailbreak for I can get stock on android. If they keep making the jailbreaks harder. People who like to tweak their phones will leave

I haven't noticed any difference since installing the update.

It would be nice to know what was changed, added, or deleted and why.

So I am trying to update it through my Verizon 4s, and it tells me that it is unable to check for updates. I am connected through wifi at home. When I try to do the itunes update, it says that the connection times out. Can anyone help me? I've turned my phone on and off, and reset my internet connection and it still will not work.

Can anyone help? I still cannot download this even through itunes.

5.0.1 update

installed it when it was still a beta. This was my last battery life as of today:
(I keep my phone in airplane mode at night)
