LOL My wife just spent several hours yesterday upgrading her iphone and ipad to beta 2. Her response should be entertaining when she finds out.

Is anyone surprised they don't support a 3 year old phone? Heck, most phones aren't supported after a year by other manufacturers.

I completely agree! I have a Pioneer GPS/DVD/NAV radio in my car that is 2 years old which has NEVER seen and will NEVER see a software update from Pioneer. Most electronic makers consider the software that ships with the device the final it will ever see, unless there is a major problem that needs fixing, then and only then will they push out an update. Before the iPhone and now Android and others, when did you ever get a new software update for your Nokia? Motorola RAZR? Nope. If you wanted new features, you bought a new phone.

I wasn't going to assume he was being sarcastic, but yes, back on topic please. :)

I wish I was able to get iOS 5 on my Nokia years ago. :p

Has anyone gotten beta 3 to update properly? I have gotten a consistent 3002 error when trying to upgrade each beta since beta 1, so I've been stuck doing a full restore each time. Is this the norm?

OK this is ridiculous. There is no good reason why I shouldn't get the wifi syncing I've been demanding from day one. I even emailed Steve about it years ago. So draconian Apple wants me to out and buy a new iPhone to get their crappy new software? Screw them. I'll go buy an Android Galaxy S2 instead.

Apparently not ...

It's pretty simple, your processor isn't fast enough to handle the new OS and all the features well. Just sell it on eBay and buy a new one. I've done that every year with no problem and sometimes even made money doing it.

And, as mentioned above, hardly any consumer electronic devices are upgraded constantly for years.

Yes, you have to restore, then restore from backup or sync

Yes, that is the only way to go for the moment.

any mirrors for the downloads yet?

Don't you mean illegal torrents? This is copyrighted software. Distributing through any channels other than the Apple Dev Servers is against the law.

NetFlix is still quite broken. Good luck ;)

Netflix isn't broken. Apple made changes to streaming implementations in iOS 5 and several apps (Netflix, Dropbox) have to make changes, too.

An OS update isn't going "fix" these apps. An update from the developer after Apple begins accepting iOS 5 binaries will.

+1. Not sure about anyone else, but I personally don't want some really laggy software running on my iPhone or iPod. I had the iPod Touch 2G and jailbroke it on 4.2.1 and put wallpapers and multitasking on it. The battery died quickly and the animations were very slow.

Methinks that the better the processor the iPhone, iPod or iPad has, the more software updates it will support. So the A4 and A5 chip devices will likely more software updates because of their ability to handle more without lag.

Lol all my friends who got Android phones never get regular updates to begin with. Not sure how the Galaxy will fare out but I've known people with Samsung, Sony and LG(I think) Android phones who are still at least one major version of Android behind because there is no new firmware for their phone.

Draconian Apple, really? And did you really think emailing the CEO of a company would get you a feature. If you really want it, jailbreak and be happy with what you've had for 3 years.

For Betas, yes.

Btw, the iPhone 3G could barely support iOS 4. What makes you think it'll support iOS 5?

You have a 3 year old phone. Technology moves on, my friend.

But having "emailed Steve", I suppose he should have fixed it.

There's plenty of good reason. You're outdated. That's it. Now go over and enjoy Android. You're not going to be missed.

Correct. And "developers" would know this!

Obvious troll is obvious.

New settings for location services for system settings. Interesting is that there is a setting for traffic ("Verkehr").

Awesome. Please come back in 3 years and let me know how long your new S2 continued to receive updates.

Furthermore when restoring from a backup, your home screens get pushed to the device immediately. The apps not already synced to your device get the common installation bar:
