try downloading it in the country in south wales

I feel for you. That has got to suck big time. Tbh though if it weren't for me paying BT a hefty amount for Fibre Optic in the last month I probably would have the same speeds as someone at the top of scotland...

Wirelessly posted (iPhone 4: Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; CPU iPhone OS 5_0 like Mac OS X) AppleWebKit/534.46 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.1 Mobile/9A334 Safari/7534.48.3)

Hey I was wondering if anyone knows how to upgrade from the iOS5 GM to the one released to the public today?

Thanks,
Rob

updated iTunes, plug in my iPad 2 and I only get "a new iPad software version (4.3.5) is available...

Have you modified your hosts file before? If yes, you need to revert it back to its original values.

Alright, so I unchecked the Cydia hosts thing in TinyUmbrella, restarted iTunes, and now it seems to be working. It took a couple tries, I got some "internal errors," not sure for what, but now it says restoring, so I've got my fingers crossed. Thanks DreamLand!

its the same thing.. no need to upgrade

Wow... Apple's servers are getting crushed. I have about 300MB left to download, and it's showing 19... now 20... now 21 minutes remaining.

They should think about a P2P solution for next time... something like the way Blizzard pushes their software updates.

Heads up: I restored my iPhone 5 from iOS5 GM to the public version released today. Software Update has the same 'Unable to Check for Update' message as with GM.

Restore from iCloud works like a charm though... ;-)

How do i update to new one from GM?
It says I'm on the newest one.

Just restore?

GM = Release of today

Updated to iOS 5

I just updated and I can't activate it. "Could not activate iPhone. Your iPhone could not be activated because the activation server is temporarily unavailable." Hummm. Really????

It must be as I am in London and it is the slowest download known to man...
You are probably not on Playstation Network.... ;-)

Downloaded the Lion upgrade the moment it came out a while ago and I downloaded 3,5GB in about 20 minutes... Now 707MB for iOS5 and I have restarted (after an error after 630MB :-( ) and am still downloading.... :-( 1,5 of downloading and I'm halfway :-(

Just downloaded in about 7 minutes here in NC, avg'd around 15Mbit/s. Wonder if proximity to the new data center has anything to do with it, restoring now.

Nope. I'm in NC, and I've been downloading for 1 hour and 19 minutes and counting. It even timed out once and had to restart, but it only took about 10 minutes to get back to where I was, so it was apparently resumable. I'm up to 590MB now, but at it's present rate, I probably have about an hour to go.

ERROR Restore

I'm getting an error when restoring backup. It goes through the whole restore as normal, then says it was interrupted. It won't work. Bummer. Hoping it fixes soon!
